My first ever poem - would love feedback or improvements idk how this sub works
In the middle of the ocean blue, The captain, his ship and faithful crew. They cannot see any land in sight, And the storm is going to hit tonight.
The cabin was silent, the captain prayed, To god that the rain would be delayed. The king hoped to retrieve his gold, The crew hoped that they could grow old.
But shadows loomed as the evening drawed it veil, The sun set and the stars prevail. The winds picked up, and the waves grew large, Could they overpower the barge?
The ship could not withstand the motion, And now sits with her captain at the bottom of the ocean.

2023.06.02 05:50 ThrowAway7s2 "Harold Berquist — Man of Iron" from the January 15, 1970 Door County Advocate

Harold Berquist — Man of Iron

By KETA STEEBS
Hjalmer Holand would have loved Harold Berquist. He is the stuff from which heroes are made. If Holand, that unforgettable chronicler of Door county events, were still alive this is the way he may have written the saga of Harold Berquist.
— ****
Harold Berquist, a 60 year old bachelor living in Baileys Harbor, eked out a meager living cutting wood in a densely forested area north of the village. On Wednesday last (Jan. 7) Berquist, working done as usual, had completed his day's chores and was on his way back to his humble cabin.'
On the way he stumbled against a tree stump and dislocated a knee. The blow forced him to the ground where he knelt on all fours. Time after time the stalwart woodsman tried to stand but the pain prohibited him from rising. In desperation be began crawling home through deep snow and in sub zero weather.
Night found him a mile from his cabin still crawling blindly towards safety. Knowing it would be useless to continue his painful journey in the dark, Berquist crawled into a fairly protected area and spent the night beating his hands against his face and rubbing the extremities of his body as vigorously as his waning strength would allow.
When daybreak at last made its hesitant appearance, the enfeebled sufferer again began his tortuous way home. He had a mile to go and by steadfastly crawling with only occasional stops to rest, arrived at his cabin shortly after noon on Thursday. Alas, the cabin was cold, his wood fire long extinguished and the temperature indoors was not much warmer, than that of the wilderness he had just left.
Berquist, still crawling, made his way to the woodpile and started a roaring fire before throwing himself exhausted on his bed. He then realized that his dislocated knee would have to be set. By bracing both feet under the footboard, lying flat on his back and jerking his injured leg as hard as he could he managed to get his kneecap back in place. This was Thursday.
Friday, he lay all alone—miles from civilization, miles from a telephone, miles from help of any kind. His feet were causing excruciating pain, his swollen knee ached unbearably and the poor man faced an uncertain and possibly short lived future.
Saturday was no better. His isolated cabin saw few visitors and even fewer snowplows. In desperation Berquist tried to relieve the pain in his frostbitten toes with homemade remedies—to no avail.
Then, at last, on Saturday evening a welcome bock sounded on the door. It was Berquist's nephew coming to pay his isolated uncle a visit. As soon as he became aware of the situation the young man immediately went for help. Snowplows gouged a road to the remote Berquist home wide enough to accommodate an ambulance. Stilled hands lifted the hardy old warrior to a stretcher and inside half-an-hour the suffering but still cheerful accident victim was in a warm hospital room.
"His toes were badly frostbitten but his overall condition was excellent. As a veteran he is eligible for admission to Wood hospital and in accordance with his request, his local doctor sent him there this week.
If anyone would like to write and congratulate him on his fortitude, courage and spirit address a card to Harold Berquist, Wood Hospital, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

2023.06.02 05:25 stajets Everything you need to know about private jet lavatories

If have ever used a Van Nuys airport private jet then you know that it comes with all the luxury, including (potentially) a bedroom, toilet, kitchen and other amenities depending on the size of the aircraft. When you go to the toilet, a lot of questions will come to your mind – do you flush while seated, are the flushes loud?
Modern lavatory
The pressurized cabin can make someone want to poop. On average long-haul flights, the average passenger will visit the loo around two times during the flight. This can produce around 230 gallons of waste. This is nearly the volume of a Jacuzzi. That is a lot of waste and requires advanced engineering to handle it.
That is where the aircraft-toilet flush comes in. Noise that is too loud it is as if the bowl of the toilet opened up to the sky to release the content. No wonder some people think the force of the flash can suck the entrails out of your butt. However, that is just a misconception.
Private jet charter toilets cannot be built with siphons because the water cannot just sit in a bowl because of spillage. Before modern pots, spilling was a serious issue for passengers when bottles and slosh buckets were common.
Where it all goes
Flushing in the toilet opens up a trapdoor and Skykem fills the bowl. When you hear a loud sound when you flush the toilet, it is not waste material leaving the plane into the air but it is the vacuum sucking the contents of the bowl. It is not a small roar but the speed at which these contents leave the bowl.
From the toilet, the waste moves through the pipes of the plane to the rear of the plane in a tank that can only be accessed from the outside. Once the Van Nuys airport private jet reaches the airport, the contents are cleared.

Prepare the Prompts for the Avatar Frame
First, prepare a description prompt about the avatar frame. You can choose to:
• Have the AI assistant ChatGPT help generate it.
• Find an avatar frame with a similar style, upload it to the replicate website, and let it identify the summarized prompts for you. Then, refine the prompts yourself.
• Communicate with the client, understand their requirements, break them down, summarize them, and translate them into English to obtain the prompts.
• Or use other tools/methods, depending on individual preferences.
After organizing the prompts related to the avatar frame, open SeaArt
Here, we used ChatGPT and generated the following prompts:
UI interface frame design, simple background, circular shape, leaves, branches, vines, flowers, small butterfly, particle effect, delicate
Select an Effect Image
• First, find a desired effect image on the Home or Model page.
Click the pink Try button to enter the Generate page. For example, we chose a forest cabin with a similar style here.
Modify the Prompts
• Prepare the prompts by merging the common prompts from the reference effect image with the prompts related to the avatar frame.
Upload the Reference Image
• After determining the prompts, click the Send to ControlNet button in the parameter config section, then upload your original image.
• Replace the reference image with a prepared avatar frame image (we recommend using a square image).

2023.06.02 04:45 vivfanlol The Strategic Cutthroat Female Player Archetype (An Analysis)

As a fan of the show who admires and respects the legendary and strategic female players of the game, I realized recently how the archetype of those female players has dissipated throughout the years of the show, particularly in BBUS.
The archetype typically describes an alpha female who outplays the men of the game and is ruthless, unemotional, and highly strategic. The women of these seasons are often despised by their fellow houseguests inside and outside of the house. Nevertheless, they usually make it far in the game or end up in the F2, often losing to a player deemed more "honorable" or "likable" to the jury, an occurrence that I feel has often been rooted in misogyny.
Classic Big Brother (BBUS2-BBUS7) was filled with cutthroat, cold, and strategic female players in each season who dominated or made it far in their respective seasons:
Big Brother 5 also had solid female players in Diane, Nakomis, and Karen, but none truly fit the archetype. While strategic and cutthroat at points, Diane was also often emotional and vulnerable. Nakomis, while strategic, was more fitting of the "wildcard" archetype. Karen is one of the best social players of Big Brother, but she was not cutthroat.
These women often lost to players that were deemed as more "honorable" or "likable" by the jury (Nicole losing to Will, Danielle losing to Lisa, and Alison losing to Jun) or had to win against other female players who were just as hated/despised by the jury (Jun winning against Alison, and Maggie winning against Ivette; I will leave the Howie vote rumors aside).
Since 'Big Brother 7: All-Stars,' the cutthroat female player archetype that viewers loved to hate or hated to love became rare. Instead, we watched as the show became more geared towards casting women for eye candy and showmance fodder.
From BB8 to BB24 (the latest season), we've only seen a small handful of women replicate this archetype and make it fairly far in the game:
Big Brother 10 had the most entertaining and explosive female cast in BBUS history, with Keesha, Michelle, April, and Libra having strong characteplayer moments. The Coven alliance, in particular, was very influential in the pre-jury, with most of the boots in the early part of the game (Steven, Angie, and Jessie) comprising players targeting Libra. Keesha also orchestrated the Jessie blindside in the F10. April was also a strong player with an alpha personality, but her game plummeted due to an all-time bad HoH reign. Most of these women went toe-to-toe with the other houseguests and had huge targets on their backs, with Libra being the most famous example. While many of these women lacked the "unemotional" trait in the strategic female player archetype, I feel that Libra replicated this archetype the most as she was a power player and, in my opinion, the driving force of the Coven alliance.
Big Brother 11 has a heavily underrated female cast. Chima Simone was a strong character with an alpha personality and the first female HoH of the season, which was unfortunately screwed over by production to help the favorites. Michele Noonan was an underrated strategic player and competitor who was often disrespected and treated like Meg Griffin in the house. Natalie Martinez, while unlikeable, has been overlooked strategically since the show and is often forgotten about. Lydia Tavera was a chaotic mess and fun to watch. Laura Crosby's feud with Ronnie was hilarious, and she was a memorable early boot. The casting of females took a turn after this season due to the season's winner, Jordan Lloyd, embodying the girl-next-door archetype and being involved in a showmance with Jeff Schroeder. Jordeff is arguably the most notable showmance in Big Brother history, and their popularity with fans and viewers at the time influenced future casting with female players.
The following seasons were significant declines in female representation, particularly within the strategic player archetype, except BB15 and BB17. Modern Big Brother has often been plagued with steamrolls by male-majority alliances, with many women conveniently being eliminated in the first half of the game (the most notable cases being BB12 and BB16). It is no coincidence that these two seasons also had misogynistic undertones among the casts.
In BB15, the cast played hard, with Amanda Zuckerman and Andy Herren being in control of the strategic happenings of the game from the F15 onward. Amanda, along with Helen Kim, replicated the strong strategic player archetype that was missing in recent seasons. Even though Helen had influence in the early game and eliminated the strongest male threat in Jeremy, her reads became more inaccurate over time, eventually becoming her downfall. Amanda, while having an explosive and sometimes emotional personality, was strategic, blunt, and cutthroat in many ways. She is arguably the most notorious/infamous female villain in the history of Big Brother US.
BB17 had an incredibly strong female cast, with the presence of mastermind Vanessa Rousso, one of the greatest players in Big Brother history. While Vanessa lacked the unemotional aspect of the strategic and cutthroat female player archetype, she was acclaimed for her strategic maneuvering, cutthroat/villainous gameplay, and manipulation.
The following seasons had a small handful of strategic female players who lacked the qualities of the archetype. Despite being cast for other archetypes and known for other traits, they had strong gameplay moments. The most notable example is Nicole Franzel, the winner of BB18. Nicole is a complicated case, as she is one of the best female players in Big Brother US but is frequently tied to the girl-next-dooshowmance archetype. She is an incredibly polarizing figure among fans and viewers, as she is often hated for targeting the women in her seasons and working with men, as well as not owning her villainy.
Fast forward to BB23 and, to a lesser extent, BB24. Tiffany Mitchell was a breath of fresh air as she indeed replicated the strong strategic female archetype. Fans and viewers have heavily praised her for masterminding the historic Cookout alliance with her strong strategic gameplay and social game. I will give an honorable mention to Hannah Chaddha and Sarah Beth, who also played a good hand in the season. In BB24, an all-girl alliance was formed and was influential in the first two weeks of the game, but fans rightfully hated it for their exclusion and poor treatment of winner Taylor Hale. Ameerah Jones, who had traits of the strong strategic female player archetype, was eliminated in week three by a majority-male alliance for being seen as the "head of the snake" of an all-girl alliance and the other side of the house.
Big Brother Canada has also seen a good share of the strong strategic female player archetype in players such as Neda Kalantar, Ika Wong, and Kaela Grant. However, that is an analysis for another day.
What are your thoughts on this analysis? Where do you think the tide started to change with this archetype? What are your overall thoughts on the female casting in Big Brother? Where do you see the future going with female casting? Let me know in the replies!

2023.06.02 04:43 Mother_Ad_3200 My tenant is taking me to the tribunal because she says that the shower cabin doors dont close properly and asking to reduce rent by $50 a week just after living for a month?

My tenant is taking me to the tribunal because she says that the shower cabin doors dont close properly and asking to reduce rent by $50 a week just after living for a month?
My tenant just started living a month ago. She gave me a breach notice as the shower cabins are "unuseable" since they dont close properly. I have lived in the property before this for 2 years and never had a problem with it.
She hasn't even returned the entry inspection report because she is unable to do it online apparently so the property manager gave a hard copy to her which she never returned.
In the breach notice, she says that "the shower cabins cannot be used normally. One in particular is unuseable. Both shower cabin doors donot close and spill water onto the floor. This is not what was advertised and in the property inspection report." She is asking to reduce the rent by $50 as compensation from the start of the tenancy throughout the entire period.
I would really appreciate your thoughts on this and am really worried as this is my first notice and is my first time being a landlord! Do you think I would lose at the tribunal? My Property Manager is barfoot and says that I might have to reduce the rent a bit if it goes to the tribunal and get both of the doors fixed asap?
There are two shower cabins in the house out of which one of them closes fine but with a cm gap between them:

The second door closes with a slight gap between them:

2023.06.02 04:41 throwaway_RA_sster AITA for doing station inspections?

I own a salon and have three hairstylists, including me. I will occasionally go through their stations to make sure everything is clean. I don’t care if it’s disorganized because hey, me too. But there are times I will find a brush with hair in it or their shears/clippers have hair in them. I’ll put these things out on their stations so when they come back in the morning, they know to clean it.
Recently though, one of my hairdressers I’ll call Macy got upset when I told her to wipe down her entire station and clean every single one of her tools because when I checked her station, there were color brushes with color still on them. Clippers were clearly never cleaned after a haircut she did and there were balls of hair everywhere. She called me a control freak and threatened to quit. I told her to quit if she wanted to but I wasn’t gonna let her give me or my salon a bad name by being a slob.
She said I was an “insufferable cunt” because at the end of every day, I have us do a quick clean up in the salon involving sweeping, a quick wipe down of stations, trash, etc but I always take the gross jobs like the bathroom and pedicure chair and various other things.
My other hairdresser i’ll call Helen told me she doesn’t hate the station inspections but she hates I go through her belongings without asking first. I told her I’ll do the inspections with her present from now on.
AITA?
Edit: I wanna clarify i don’t do inspections every day or week but occasionally and at random.

2023.06.02 04:41 Cut-Unique What happens if you're on a plane, there's a drop in cabin pressure which causes the oxygen masks to deploy, but rather than putting your mask on first, you assist the person next to you with putting their mask on?

In other words, you do the opposite of what they instruct you to do?
Will you die? Will you get arrested for not following instructions?

2023.06.02 04:38 Sir-Fenwick Help fix my 2011 sportwagen tdi

Good evening. I am experiencing trouble with my 2011 sportwagen tdi.
A week ago I was driving on a road trip. We had been going for 2 hours and it was raining the entire time. We stopped to eat, and when we came back out to the car, it would not turn on. When the key was put into the ignition and in the on position, the only electronics that would work were the cluster, the rear wiper which never shuts off, and the power door unlock (only unlock).
After a lot of vehicle swapping and towing, I have it back in my yard. Now, I know the sunroof drain is an issue and it get clogged constantly. The drivers side is very often damp after a storm. This is where I believe the problem lies. Once my wife complained of water dripping on to her foot. I thought I had cleared the blockages, but I guess not. I believed the water leaked into the cabin behind the dash and has gotten into my electronics. So I started digging.
I discovered that the BCMPQ35 had water stains on it. I removed it and removed the cover and discovered 3 spots on the board that have burned out, pics below.
Should I keep looking? Or is this the culprit? And if it is the culprit, can this be replaced or does it need to be reprogrammed at a dealer? The nearest dealer to me is 150 miles away.
I’m an electrician, like to build robots and computers and the like, and I’ve fixed a few vehicles and am not afraid to try and fix it. I got it for a good deal and would rather not see it gone. I’m looking forward to any feedback and constructive suggestions as to how I can proceed. Can I fix the contacts on the board? Should I try and by a replacement? Thanks again.

2023.06.02 04:38 Loser0rangeboi new to the mesh system- please help

Just set up my dream router and running the uap outdoor aps (the skinny bunny lookin ones). have 5 spanning across my heavily wooded 14 acre property in the attempt to reach the many cabins with the property, which is a skinnier long lakeshore property. they all connect to eachother fine, however im not sure what optimal performance looks like, as each ap has a connection percent of about 20-30 or in the -80db range, which i know aint good. do I have to buy more? Ive strategically placed them so most are in line of sight of eachother inorder to optimize the connection between them, and than i have one lonely one in the deep woods thats isolated but sometimes also becomes the main ap that branches to the other aps and connects to the dream router. I just inserted the micro sd card in the router today as a friend said i might have logging issues. Im techy, but not a network guy. This is the second mesh system in this place as we upgraded from a indoor focused asus mesh system to what we thought would be an awesome unicorn mesh system. by the time i get to the third ap in the branch, im getting speeds of 0-0.1 mb download and 1mb upload. lots of different issues here, just looking for some guidance on how to go about it

2023.06.02 04:26 rufrb Help finding the number of this forest scp

This is an entity that lives in the woods and there is a log where someone gets sent in. That person feels watched/stalked and reaches a cabin(?). They say that the cabin is very familianostalgic. The person is definitely tied to the scp in some way. In the end, the scp and the person confront each other and the person yells out some things that imply he had a past with the scp. The scp then absorbs the guy, or they both disappear.
I think I may have read this years ago on this sub under an artwork?

So I have accepted a new job offer and am planning to give my 2 weeks notice on Monday. I have one PTO day already scheduled/ approved since the beginning of May that would fall within the 2 weeks notice period. I submitted this PTO way before I even received this new job offer. Would there be any issue with me taking this day that was already approved? I live in GA if that matters.

2023.06.02 04:14 Forward-Ad-1196 Any Tips for The Lodge Cabin Stay?

Later in June we’re going to stay at one of the cabins at the lodge. I see there’s no Wi-Fi or cell service, actually looking forward to that. I’m worried about how hot it has been, highs in the 80s and lows in the upper 60s. Is it typically that warm? We’ll have electricity and water. What tips do you have for a family with a couple boys aged 7 and 4? Thanks!

2023.06.02 04:02 Sixtynineredroses Is this bad??

I’m on a school camp trip. This is the first time I’ve been camping since I was SA’d. The guy who did it is on this trip, however he’s obviously not in my cabin.
Some context: him (D) and I used to be really close friends and we might’ve been almost more. Until he SA’d me, breaking my trust. I didn’t realize it was SA at first however I figured it out when I described what happened in full detail to my friend around 4 months after. That’s when it hit me, I realized how panicked and stressed the whole situation made me. I couldn’t figure out how I felt and it took over my life and it killed me. I lost my friends (partially because they couldn’t handle my emotions which is valid and partially for another reason).
Anyways, a lot of things have happened at this camp that remind me of what happened. My cabin was in a group with D’s cabin for a few activities. One of which was a trust-building activity where we had to wear blind-folds.
I saw the blindfolds and immediately remembered and basically got flashbacks from what had happened with me and D. That happened most likely because the SA happened during a game where one of us would have to lie completely still and close our eyes. Both were games of trust basically.
Honestly I would’ve had a really bad panic attack if I wasn’t surrounded by people. I panicked a bit and kept it to myself but I wanted to cry.
This happened a few times during the trip. Whenever anyone I don’t trust touches me or gets close to me I freeze. I used to be fine with closeness, but now when people touch me I want to cry because I no longer enjoy it which is weird because all I ever wanted was someone to hold me when I panicked. Now the only people who can are my most trusted friends who would never hurt me. Mostly this happens if someone touches me or gets close to me without warning or consent. It’s fine if I trust the person enough and they have my consent or knowledge on what’s going to happen.
Sometimes I can still feel what happened and I feel so dirty. I feel like it’s my fault. I feel like I don’t deserve friends until I’m healed so I don’t burden them but I just can’t heal.
Even though I have friends I don’t have any attachment to most of them. As in if I lost them I wouldn’t care. But that’s mostly the friends who get too close without trust. It’s not their fault because they don’t know I can’t be close to people.
When I first realized D had SA’d me, I had frequent panic attacks. They’ve calmed down more but I still get flashbacks. People make jokes about it because a ‘lava lamp’ (mini glitter lamp) was involved and it’s stupid so it’s funny. Like whenever I see a lava lamp, obviously I remember it but people say stuff like ‘{my name} it’s a lava lamp’ or they’ll stare at me when they see it. It’s so dumb and I get it if whoever’s reading this thinks it’s funny too but I don’t really find it funny anymore. I used to laugh because I was unsure about what had happened.
Honestly, I used to trust D so much. I trusted him the most in the world. He betrayed that trust. I will forever despise how he broke that bond.
Sorry this post is a bit all over the place, I’m tired and just rambling. But is something wrong with me?

2023.06.02 03:48 Remarkable_Heron_599 Who is the most annoying character?

I’m not saying the most despicable or disgusting just the one you can’t really stand. For me it’s a tough choice between Helen or Juliana.
Helen always expects too much from John goes psycho and gets her whole family to be almost killed every couple episodes. Post season 2 almost every couple episodes John is dealing with some shit Helen caused while being super patient and never cruel with her. Also what kind of mother tries to kill herself and their father in a world that would swallow their children alive especially since they could be disabled. As evil as John is supposed to be his devotion to his family is unparalleled while Helen has no care in the world about her families safety.
Juliana just can’t stand loyal or even accept anyone’s views other than her owns from frank to joe to wyatt, the resistance, togomi or literally anyone and causes Franks death while killing Joe. John mentioned that I understand you had no longer had anymore use for joe and she replied with I’m not you but she’s literally thrown everyone who isn’t useful to her anymore under the bus or manipulates them with no care or thought of what would happen to them such as Frank, Joe, Helen, her parents with this my way or the high way attitude which the show annoyingly just keeps on justifying for this notion of the greater good.

2023.06.02 03:40 firetothetrees Car Delema - What should we do?

Hey all I'm trying to work out a plan for what to do with our cars as they are not meeting our needs currently however I am hesitant to buy at the moment given the high price of both used and new vehicles.
What we currently have - 2015 F150 Platinum with 175k Miles and a 2017 Focus RS with 37k miles. The F150 is paid off and the RS has just a tad left on it.
Here is the problem. We moved to our mountain cabin which is off a dirt road. the RS cant handle the bumps when it gets bad so it mostly sits, but its a fun car to take to the city when we go. The F150 has been great but is starting to show some major signs of wear and tear. It recently cost me $4k at the shop for a slew of maintanance including new manifolds. Its probably fine for a while but this is basically our primary vehicle.
I tow a lot with the f150 and recently its involved some larger loads (skid steer / mini ex) which at 11k ft in elevation it can struggle with. So a 3/4 Ton truck would be a nice upgrade. Ideally Id get a work truck but everything in that category is either already really used which would just give me the same problem (maintanance) . Or a newer used one which would be pretty expensive.
Together I could probably get around $56k for both of them (20 for the truck 36 for the rs). Been thinking maybe one car for now fully paid off, or maybe a work truck and a newer suv as well. But i also dont want to trash anything nice on our roads. I can throw more money in but I hate spending money on depreciating assets.
So im curious what would you all do? What cars would you get?
