Putting Together A Technical Team
2023.06.02 01:07 Many_While_2597 Putting Together A Technical Team
Hello Everyone,
My name is Bret Bacon, I am a Software Engineer with 5+ years of professional experience. My skills range from Full-Stack Development to Back-End Architecture, Cloud Development, and Microservices to Business Management and Development.
I am looking for a few intelligent and motivated individuals to build up a few businesses with. I am looking for partners willing to take an even share of equity and efforts for these start-ups. The businesses' web presence will reside at the following domains:
BombFolders.com BombResumes.com A brief explanation as to my hopes for these sites:
BombResumes.com will be a collaborative resume-building site that has a social aspect and a job board that integrates with Indeed, Monster Jobs, and other, similar job listing sites. The collaboration on resume building will be based on a Mentorship program, and Mentors for the site are the only users able to act as Recruiters for businesses.
BombFolders.com is intended to be a Notion-like application that allows users to create, upload, or modify 'Files' which can be made public(limitations on the number of public Files a user on the free tier can have). User created databases, UI elements, embeddings, and collaboration are all must have features for this application. This application will hopefully be a great platform for Users to showcase portfolios, manage tasks, and setup workflow automations.
These applications can provide value to many people, including the founders. Please feel free to spark public discussion about the applications, my vision for them (which is adaptable), or just to tell me I'm reaching. Thanks for reading this post everyone, and I hope you all find the teams you are looking for!
Best Regards,
Bret

2023.06.01 15:53 kittehgoesmeow What A Day: The Best Is Debt To Come by Julia Claire & Crooked Media (05/31/23)
"Republicans got outsmarted by a President who can't find his pants." - Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) losing her mind over the debt ceiling deal A House (Like, Seriously) Divided
Oh, to be a fly on the wall in Congress this week. - After far too many painstaking months of brinkmanship and hostage demands from House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, the deal he reached with President Biden finally advanced in the House of Representatives. First, on Tuesday night, the House Rules Committee narrowly passed rules of debate (the procedural motion that will allow members to vote on a final bill) on a 7-6 vote. Reps. Chip Roy (R-TX) and Ralph Norman (R-SC) defected, joining all of the committee’s four Democrats in opposition.
- Second, the agreement to lift the nation’s debt limit (with a considerable list of right-wing strings attached) cleared its second major procedural hurdle on Wednesday, when the vote to start debate on the bill passed 241-187. McCarthy sounded extremely confident that the next vote, which will happen on Wednesday night, will succeed, insisting “It’s going to become law.” Okay Kevin, whatever you say.
- Members of the far-right House Freedom Caucus have already made a big show of their opposition to the deal, which they say does not go far enough in
hurting the poor cutting federal spending, which, I cannot stress enough, they do not actually care about. The GOP’s ultra-right flank is actually mad that defense spending did not increase enough. That’s right, $886 billion for defense in 2024 (the only area of the budget to get more than a one percent increase) simply isn’t enough because…China is building up its military?
Despite GOP infighting, preliminary counts suggest that the deal has enough support to pass in the House. Here’s why.
- Republicans led by McCarthy got Biden to agree to additional work-requirements for able-bodied Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program recipients, but Biden got McCarthy to agree to reduce those requirements for more vulnerable recipients such as veterans and homeless people. Add it all up and the Congressional Budget Office projects that the number of people eligible for SNAP will actually increase by almost 80,000 Americans. Work requirements for food assistance and other government aid were first put into place under the now-maligned “Welfare Reform” in 1996 (thanks, Bill Clinton).
- Even if the agreement passes in the House of Representatives, it still faces delays in the Senate, unless Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer can convince their members to expedite a final vote on it. Emerging from a Senate GOP lunch to discuss the debt ceiling on Wednesday, which Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) said, “I’m just relieved nobody stabbed each other in there.” Sounds like everything is going great!
It’s worth noting that many progressives on the other side of the aisle are not happy with the deal, either. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) released a statement saying that the best thing about the deal was that it could have been “much worse” and was a significant improvement from the original GOP proposal, but because of the cuts to non-defense spending, the IRS, and other areas, he “cannot vote for this bill.” Sanders called the bill “unnecessary” and underscored that Biden “has the authority and the ability to eliminate the debt ceiling today by invoking the 14th Amendment.” Nevertheless, the bill will likely pass, and the rest of us are tasked with making sure the damage is undone and Democrats never let themselves concede ransoms to the GOP again—for real this time. [singing] “I’m proud to be an American…”

Yevgeny Prigozhin, the founder and leader of the Wagner mercenary group, announced on Wednesday that he has asked prosecutors to investigate whether senior Russian defense officials have committed crimes during or before the war in Ukraine. The former restaurateur who last week jokingly referred to himself as
“Putin’s butcher” is a bit of an unpredictable figure, and this development is the most overt public challenge to Putin’s top military officials including Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov. Prigozhin has spent months insulting the two men at the top of the Russian war effort and accusing them of deception, questioning their allegiance to the (horrible, evil) cause. The Wagner group is on the front lines of the Russian assault on Ukraine, particularly in the eastern city of Bakhmut, and Prigozhin has repeatedly slammed senior Kremlin officials for blocking media coverage of him and his private army.
What Else?
DOJ special counsel Jack Smith is investigating disgraced former president Trump’s firing of Christopher Krebs, the Republican cybersecurity official who issued a statement calling the 2020 election “the most secure in American history.” An audio recording of a summer 2021 meeting in which Trump references holding onto a classified Pentagon document about a potential attack on Iran has been obtained by federal prosecutors. This admission flies in the face of his argument that he declassified everything.
Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) kicked off his first major presidential campaign event in Iowa and used the occasion to bash disgraced former president Donald Trump for his “[decision] to move left” on some issues. Lol.
Govs. Glenn Younkin (R-VA) and Henry McMaster (R-SC) signed executive orders that will send members of the Virginia and South Carolina National Guard to the southern border to support a Republican crackdown at the border led by Gov. Greg Abbott (R-TX). That ‘70s Show actor Danny Masterson was found guilty of two out of three counts of rape on Wednesday in his retrial. Prosecutors said Masterson forcibly raped three women in his home between 2001 and 2003, and used his position in the Church of Scientology to avoid consequences for the past two decades. (All three women were also members of the church at the time.)
Eighty-three year old Al Pacino is expecting a baby with his 29-year-old girlfriend. Okay! Gross!
Donald Trump’s on-again-off-again little bitch boy Chris Christie will reportedly announce his candidacy for president next Tuesday. Another GOP failson, former Vice President Mike Pence, will also be announcing his presidential campaign next week. Be Smarter
Meta said on Wednesday that it would remove news content from Facebook in California —the company’s home turf—if the state passes the California Journalism Preservation Act. The proposed bill would require online platforms to pay a “journalism usage fee” to news outlets whose work appears on the platforms, a corrective measure aimed at reversing the precipitous decline in local news. Meta spokesperson Andy Stone derisively called the payment structure a “slush fund” that would primarily benefit “big, out-of-state media companies under the guise of aiding California publishers.” The company has been fighting similar battles over compensation for news publishers at the federal and international level for some time now. Facebook infamously refused to go dark in the face of an international consensus concluded that the platform fueled the 2018 genocide, but when Australia floated a law similar to the one being considered in California, it was lights out the next day.
Crooked Media political contributor and resident Big Tech expert Max Fisher, who has reported on Facebook extensively, had this to say: “Facebook has repeatedly refused to so much as throttle its algorithm when its platform is demonstrably contributing to an ongoing genocide, but it showed in Australia in 2021, and is likely to show again soon in California, that it will hit the off button without hesitation when the one thing it does care about gets threatened: money. The company is perfectly willing to shut off citizens from vital, life-saving services in the process of coercing whole populations to protect its bottom line.”

2023.06.01 15:17 itsjackwayne Sandbox Co-founder Remains Bullish on Metaverse Despite Funding Issues
| Sandbox by playtoearn.com With the development of technology, Artificial Intelligence has made amazing progress in many fields that are hard to understand. In the same way, we've seen how strong and quick the metaverse is as it takes over the internet. In a recent report, Sebastian Borget, the founder of Sandbox, shed light on a very important subject. Investors are no longer interested in the metaverse because artificial intelligence has taken its place as the newest and most popular investment idea. Sebastian Borget says that the metaverse race is a "marathon of many sprints" as the industry works to create long-term value with a positive outlook. Borget is still optimistic about the business world and thinks that AI could help the metaverse grow faster, better, and stronger. In November 2021, when metaverse was making a lot of noise in the gaming industry, Sandbox raised $93 million at an unknown price. Borget and his company now have to deal with a worsening economy and the latest hyped-up technology, Artificial Intelligence (AI). Borget Remains Bullish on Metaverse Even though technology changed quickly, Borget has a positive outlook and is still bullish. The co-founder is sure that the company can get more money if it needs to, though given the current state of the market, it may take a little longer. The futuristic but vague idea of the "metaverse" is no longer a hot topic among investors because it would take a lot of time and money to make it happen. Because of how quickly OpenAI's ChatGPT became popular, many investors have turned their attention to AI, which shows a big change in focus. Borget thinks that even though investors aren't interested in the metaverse, it will still bring in billions of dollars because businesses from education to retail have already started to use it. Even though the Sandbox has fewer players than popular games like Fortnite, which also has metaverse elements, Borget expects double-digit growth, which will be helped by the explosion of artificial intelligence (AI). Borget thinks that ChatGPT and other AI tools that help people be creative will speed up the spread of the metaverse by making it easier to make avatars and virtual worlds. The New York Times says that Activision Blizzard, a major game company, is already using generative AI to speed up the design and development of games. Allen Adham, who is Blizzard's chief design officer, is said to have told employees, "We are about to make a big change in how we build and run our games." Borget adds that by using the technology to remove objectionable words from in-game interactions, AI may also make the metaverse safer. Sandbox Aims to Join Forces with AI Companies The Sandbox has already tried out AI, working with companies that are excited about making avatars using text prompts and making avatar behaviors from videos of people doing things. Borget says that the company is looking for ways to invest in and work with AI companies that can help it build its metaverse game. For example, the company is looking for tools that let users create game modes and other activities on their virtual domains. Unlike Mark Zuckerberg's Meta, which is built on virtual reality goggles, the Sandbox's metaverse is built on blockchain technology and can be accessed through web browsers. Based on the number of landowners, The Sandbox says it is one of the largest decentralized metaverse systems. Since the number of people using the platform is lower than it was last year, Sandbox still has work to do if it wants to be widely used and successful in the long run. Borget thinks that the number of players will grow quickly for the rest of this year and into 2024. By the end of the third quarter, the platform will be fully functional, giving users access to the whole metaverse. As the platform gets better, players can only go to a certain number of virtual worlds at a certain number of times. Borget doesn't seem to care about the numbers. He says that a lot of people could visit the platform even if they don't buy anything. In total, $1 million worth of sales have been made through the platforms. The Sandbox: Room for Improvement Also, The Sandbox needs to get more people to use its metaverse platform. Over 100,000 people played the beta version of the game in the first three months. This is a 72% drop from the previous 10-week period, which ended in November and was the same length. Statistics show that since their peaks more than a year ago, the number of daily unique active wallet addresses and game tokens for the Sandbox has dropped by more than 90%. Borget admits that the number of people using the metaverse is falling, but he says that it is still "very active and ongoing." Daily unique wallet addresses only show how many people come to the Sandbox to do business. They don't show how many people come to do things like attend virtual concerts. 2023.06.01 07:42 RemnantEvil [Video games journalism] When a writer's punished for having the wrong opinion and leads a tiny exodus of hobbyists
What is Rock, Paper, Shotgun? Rock, Paper, Shotgun (RPS) is a PC-gaming focused site based in the UK that was started in 2007. It has the usual gaming site content – Top 5/10/50/100 lists, publisher or developer press releases dressed up as news, reviews, previews, press event reports, a podcast, and – important to this story – a comment section below articles where gamers and capital-G Gamers, left-wing and right-wing alike, can find unity in complaining that their favourite was inappropriately placed in the aforementioned Top 5/10/50/100 lists.
(Fun fact: one of the co-founders of RPS was Kieron Gillen, who has since worked on Uncanny X-Men, Young Avengers, Marvel’s Darth Vader, and co-created Doctor Aphra.)
Of note, RPS bucks the generally apolitical nature of gaming sites by being quite openly left-wing. Though it generally isn’t a feature of many articles, it does show up on occasion, and not always in the best light. For instance,
this article that has an unusual bone to pick with Rainbow Six Siege having a female hostage in the E3 demo. Despite Tom Clancy himself having a reputation as a conservative, and that’s pretty evident in his fiction, the Rainbow Six series has been unusually progressive in having women fighting terrorists alongside the men since the inception, and Siege was no exception. It was actually quite rare in the ‘90s that a woman not named Lara Croft was involved in the action alongside the boys, so it does seem like an article about Rainbow Six’s treatment of women is more about having a bone to pick.
(Editorial note: I do not believe a person’s identity is political. Some people do. There’s a saying that applies to capital-G Gamers – “There are two genders: male and political.” Often when they decry keeping politics out of video games, it’s directed at any sort of inclusion. So, the political slant on this is just to point out that left-wing people are generally pro-trans and right-wing people are generally not. Spoiler alert, this is a discussion about trans people.)
What is wargaming? Within gaming, there are genres. Wargaming is one of them, and quite niche. Within the genre, there’s a diverse spectrum of passion. Some would consider themselves wargaming fans if they played and liked the Total War series. More hardcore wargamers would vehemently disagree and look down their nose at a game that has giant men standing on a world map; in their minds, wargaming is the domain of the chit and NATO symbology – a whole other language where a rectangular with an X through it represents an infantry unit, and the number of Xs or Is above the rectangle represents its size from XXXXX being army group, XX being division, II as battalion or I as company. (Give me hexes or give me death!) But in general, it’s operational (think the Italian campaign of WWII), strategic (the invasion of Sicily the Allies), or tactical (taking a specific town in Sicily with a regiment), and generally turn-based but occasionally real-time. You won’t find Age Of Empires in this genre, for instance.
Wargaming is not exclusive to the digital space either, and it’s just as likely to be played around an enormous table with intricate landscapes, pushing 8mm, 15mm or bigger pieces, usually hand-painted, and rolling dice. They’ll have a hefty rulebook in hand to consult how many dice you roll and what sort of success you need in order for your British mortar team to successfully knock out the German machine gun nest on the rooftop. Warhammer 40K is the most famous example, but that’s a single guy per base; the deeper wargames have a single base representing a squad or platoon stuck together to move as a group.
(The more hardcore have taken on the moniker grognards, a reference to old soldiers and specifically the original Imperial Guard that fought under Napoleon at Waterloo.)
What’s The Flare Path? Among the contributors to RPS was one named Tim Stone, who started writing for the site as soon as it was founded. (I cannot use anonymity, so the usual sub rules apply about leaving people alone; Tim’s still writing and in order to engage with this drama, we have to link articles that clearly have his name on them.) There’s a distinction between staff and contributors; staff were full-time employees of the business, whereas contributors are just freelancers who pop in and out. He was not a run-of-the-mill writer who would guzzy up press releases, Tim only had one ongoing feature called The Flare Path with a supplemental Friday Foxer. Though he started out doing little comics under the title Strafe Left, he moved on to reviews and features before creating the regular feature The Flare Path in 2011.
The title The Flare Path is a reference to the lights that outline runways, allowing aircraft to take off or land at night. And that is a pretty good summation of the feature, because Tim’s focus was exclusively on wargaming and simulations, which could mean directing squadrons of aircraft to take off for a mission, or yourself piloting a plane to a gentle landing guided by the flare path. Every Friday, you would just as likely find an article about a game where you drive a train in rural England as you would a wargame where you command Roman legions in that very same countryside. Among the regular features were A2Z articles, where Tim would have short snippets for each letter of the alphabet, with Q often necessarily “Quick tea break” due to the infrequency of that letter showing up. For instance, a new ARMA game might be A, then teasing a review of Battle Brothers is B, and so on, just a fun way to wrap up a lot of short bits of news that don’t have enough meat for a full article.
Another article type would see Tim break out of his usual Friday containment and run communal games, typically Combat Mission. Combat Mission is a WWII/Cold War turn-based tactics game where you’d queue up orders to your units that would then be executed for 60 seconds, during which the other side would be executing their own orders and you’d simply have to watch how your planning and preparation plays out. And it turns out, this is surprisingly adaptable to a group game – Tim would grid the map, lay out a scenario, identify the units and the objectives, and then people would comment below the article to give instructions. You could only move one unit in a turn and you had to be the first to claim that unit, but you’d say, for example, “I’d like to move 1st Squad to H3 and try to suppress the machine gun,” and Tim would take your comment and play it out. The next day, he’d do a little narrative report on who did what, where, and when, and what the enemy did in response, in a fun narrative way, even naming characters who pulled off particularly heroic or cowardly feats. Then he’d update the map, and the next turn begins.
Alongside his regular article, he’d also post a Friday Foxer. He’d have a variety of different games in the Foxer genre, and often rewarded correct answers with prizes – usually codes for games that developers gave him. One type was giving clues to a location and the readers would have to deduce where Tim was “standing” that fit all the criteria. Others were Catchphrase-like messages hidden in images that you’d need to decode, or a series of seemingly-unrelated images which had a theme that you’d need to identify.
I go on these tangents to emphasize that Tim had built himself a little community on RPS. While contributors did reply to reader comments in articles, Tim was often playing a game with readers, which endeared him to some people. Not only that, if you were interested in wargaming or simulations, any article on RPS about those genres was typically Tim’s domain. For a certain group, Tim was the only regular source of news on two niche genres, and the only reason to read RPS if the newest action game or looter-shooter didn’t appeal to you. There was and (spoilers) is nothing like The Flare Path and the Foxers on RPS, as far as actual engagement with the article itself through community wargames or puzzles.
Equally important, wargaming itself is niche enough that there are few others who do what Tim does. Wargaming.net is actually the name of the company who makes World Of Tanks, World Of Warships and others – ironically, none of which would qualify as wargames and would barely pass musters as simulations either. Wargamer has infrequent articles. The best podcast on the subject is Three Moves Ahead (which originally launched as the podcast for the now-defunct Flash Of Steel website), but the podcast is infrequent as well, is primarily focused on a single game per episode (though with comparisons made by the host or guests to other games), and has a bit too much focus on Total War or every single new Paradox DLC for Crusader Kings at the exclusion of more niche titles.
On a weekly schedule, Tim became a stable pair of hands, and was directing his community to support all sorts of up-and-comers who were otherwise ignored or neglected or just invisible to wider gaming press.
I also want to point out that there’s an often-unspoken ethical question at the core of wargaming as a hobby. To his credit, Tim often wrote about it, and would even avoid wargaming topics as a matter of sensitivity to significant dates. As players in this hobby, we are moving chits around that represent thousands of people and though nobody obviously dies, wargaming frequently deals with historical events and it’s something we need to be aware of. Tim would frequently muse in his articles or bring it up in interviews with developers – to paraphrase, what we’re doing for “fun” is essentially turning some very dark times in human history into entertainment, and to what extent should we be aware of that? Should we want to simulate “playing” as Germany to conquer Europe, which in the real world resulted in tens of millions of innocent and not-so-innocent people dying? It’s a tough conversation to have and Tim chose to engage with it, which probably put him offside with some of his readers, because it’s a topic that actually genuinely is bringing politics into gaming, unlike a lot of the gaming discourse.
A journalist is booted off a fictional radio for being a bit TERFy, resulting in a journalist being booted off a website for being a bit TERFy. The inciting incident for this drama is
an article posted in 2020 about a UK journalist who was one of several used by game developer Ubisoft to provide voiceovers for the video game Watch Dogs Legion. In the article, it is revealed that this journalist had in the past posted a 2017 The Times article titled “A man can’t just say he has turned into a woman.”
What is TERF? Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist, which probably spiked the Google charts more recently with The Author Who Shall Not Be Named. I will add this disclaimer, I am inferring things about Tim when I call him a TERF, and maybe I’m giving too much credit. I don’t know if Tim Stone is a feminist, so I’m giving the benefit of the doubt, and I wear that. The author of The Times article is a self-proclaimed feminist, and does claim to support trans right, but according to the RPS article, “(She) uses familiar hand-wringing about biological sex, transgender identification as a trend, and people with penises in women's changing rooms.” I’ll leave it up to your judgement whether you think either is an actual TERF or not.
In an unusual move, one Tim Stone showed up in the comments of the above article, and that’s the meat of this drama.
The Alamo but with TERFs. The comments, as you can imagine, were completely chill since obviously “censoring” a “journalist” in a “video game” for “anti-trans views” outside of the game itself is just the perfect intersection of everything political on an internet forum possible. (The voiceover in the game was scripted by Ubisoft and was itself not an issue; they were choosing to remove the voiceover to remove association with the journalist based on their views.)
One user wrote:
there are diverse voices within RPS when it comes to games, genres, preferences etc but I would say (and i’d be prepared to be challenged on this) there is zero diversity in respect of political views and arguable groupthink and alignment particularly around trans issues.
To which Tim opined:
There's at least one regular RPS contributor who'd like to see the site show a little more respect for the gender critical position in the trans rights debate. Me.
He proceeded to link several articles, saying,
I agree with all those arguing for more constructive discussion and less name-calling in this debate.
And we’re off to the races.
One commenter wrote:
never mind 'gender critical' being an obvious dogwhistle, it boggles the mind that you think "trans rights debate" is an acceptable string of words in 2020
trans rights are human rights, this shit isn't a debate
And significantly, it wasn’t just site users who were chiming in. Another writer for RPS came in guns blazing:
The "gender critical position" is tired snivelling cowardice hiding behind Very Real Concerns while throwing shit at the people whose lives are routinely treated like an intellectual excercise. [sic]
I am frankly embarrassed [sic] to see you repeating such dogwhistling bullshit. The obviously lying "I am cancelling my subscription!!!" oafs in here are one thing, but this is just sad.
What the writer was alluding to was the typical capital-G Gamer response to anything political (and often something is only “political” if they don’t like it), namely “Get your politics out of my video games.” Often the corollary of that was “..or I’m getting out of your website.”
The inciting article is itself tame. Incredibly tame. As referenced earlier, it has the usual games journalism scent of just dressing up a press release. At the most judgemental, they referenced that the voiceover-providing journalist had “some pretty ugly opinions about transgender people” and “that’s decidedly not neat,” which is just the lovely understatement you get from British people. “This is a bit bothersome” was, I believe, repeatedly uttered during the Blitz.
I won’t bore with copying over more comments, but it gets quite heated – although Tim seems to remain quite collected in the comments, which does have an air that he isn’t aware of what kind of hornet’s nest he’s kicked. The most noteworthy exchange is between a user and Tim, where the user writes:
It is distressing that you think my rights as a trans person are subject to some sort of "trans rights debate," and that "gender critical" is anything but a dog whistle for the same transphobic rhetoric as I've always been subject to, but now behind a veneer of intellectualism and civil discourse.
This isn't a matter of left and right, it's a matter of respect for other human beings. Good to know at least one RPS writer has none for me.
And Tim’s response:
I have profound respect for you and your life choices.
I also believe that questions like "Should trans women be allowed to compete in female sports?" and "Should male-bodied trans women be housed in womens' prisons?" are worthy of debate.
To forbid all debate on "trans rights" and to seek to silence and cancel people who don't unquestioningly support one side of the argument seems horribly totalitarian to me.
If you were to take an unfriendly view of Tim, this might be it – calling a person’s transition a “life choice”, and then putting the question of trans rights up for debate, calling the desire not to debate someone’s human rights “totalitarian.”
In all, Tim would comment eight times, with his last being:
Some proposed trans rights clash with women's rights in certain areas. It is not bigoted to point this out or advocate debate so that compromises can be reached.
Overrunning the drop zone. Five days later, the RPS Twitter account posts
this tweet.
Trans rights are human rights. We strive to create an inclusive space for all people. Earlier this week, a freelancer used the RPS comments section to express views that failed in that goal. We will no longer be working with this freelancer or publishing their column.
And just like that, the flares are snuffed and Tim’s time at RPS comes to an abrupt end after 13 years of service.
The responses, I’m sure you can imagine, are the usual volleys from the usual battle lines. Left-wing and trans rights people are chuffed to bits, believing that an insidious TERF has been weeded out from RPS. They view his comments about bathrooms and sports as the usual dogwhistle, typical of the alt-right where the goal is to draw increasingly smaller circles to exclude trans people from one thing after another until they ultimately cannot exist in society. Gamers with a right-wing focus and wargamers (and those are not mutually exclusive) try to cancel culture RPS, many declaring that they’d never return to the site for this grave injustice. And for wargamers, that’s pretty easy; Tim was the only one catering to their genre appetite, and there literally was no reason to return without Tim. The most vanilla response was those who didn’t care about the comment section conflict at all and just wanted their dang wargaming news.
(The wargaming audience was not exclusively on the right-wing - the creator of one of the biggest wargaming podcasts showed up in the comments too, and took a distinctly anti-Tim and pro-trans stance.)
The last (spoilers, not really) article posted by Tim was a typical A2Z column, and became somewhat of a shrine to him. Of note, the very user to whom Tim gave his perhaps most damning response showed up:
Please don't assume Tim is a TERF. I was involved, and indeed in lots of was responsible for what happened on the other forum which i am devastated by.
I am trans and Tim replied in support of a view that i expressed! He shared some views and links to articles (including one from a trans blogger) that many people (including many trans people) would agree with. And even if they didn't, and Alison below articulates the position better than i could, its not like he went on an alt right tirade. This is a reasonable person making reasonable views very politely and and commenter whether they agreed with those or not has gained nothing from what happened subsequently, and we have all collectively lost something.
Flare Path fans were somewhat split. The most mild responses were critical of RPS for how they booted Tim out the door without a second chance; some were concerned that it’s not a great way to win allies and convince people. Throw in the usual snippets: “cancel culture” and references to “The Inquisition”, and a number of people saying their farewells to RPS. In an odd way – and I did it myself by calling this a shrine – the comment section really does feel like the man died, with some outright coming to, quote, “pay their respects”.
Of particular note, a user named hms_pepperpot shows up, and it looks like it’s Tim. I have no evidence to the contrary and the phrasing is close enough that I’m willing to believe it. But wait, Tim was posting as Tim Stone in the inflamed comment section, right? Yep, the divorce was so swift and decisive that they even blocked his access to his old username, or deleted it entirely – either way, he was in the comments to say goodbye under an alias.
Leaving RPS without being able to say a proper goodbye to you, the readers who have made my job such a joy this past thirteen years, has been one of the most depressing aspects of the last few days. Your enthusiasm was as important to The Flare Path's modest success as the complete creative freedom Graham afforded me. Thank you for making possible the happiest years of my working life.
While the Flare Path name is destined for the scrap heap, the concept and spirit of the column will hopefully live on. I'm planning to pick up pretty much where I left off early in the new year. An article devoted to the FP game jam entries will be amongst the first pieces I post. Of course, there will be foxers too.
To readers hurt by my words last weekend, all I can say is a heartfelt sorry - I didn't set out to wound and have no wish whatsoever to make the lives of trans people more difficult. To readers baffled by the comments that ended up costing me my job, I strongly recommend reading a thoughtful essay written by Sam Smethers, the CEO of respected British women's rights charity The Fawcett Society. Google 'Sex and Gender Indentity: Finding a Way Forward' and you should find it.
See you in 2021 I hope. Tim.
Of note, HMS Pepperpot is a reference to warship HMS Penelope. With Tim’s penchant for riddles and puzzles, it is not likely a coincidence that:
On wartime service with Force K, she was holed so many times by bomb fragments that she acquired the nickname "HMS Pepperpot".
Though Tim had some in agreement with his views in the inciting comment section, he was undoubtedly outnumbered and taking a lot of flak.
Napoleon’s exile on Elba. Some time later, Tim would resurface on a new site of his own creation, Tally-Ho Corner. Very much The Flare Path with a new coat of paint, he would carry on with his regular columns on a weekly basis. The Foxers returned, as did A2Z and communal wargaming. RPS, for their part, did not seem to fight to keep the column to themselves. There was a small exodus as RPS had once been a PC gaming site with a wargaming/simulation column, to just a PC gaming site. Those with only an interest in those genres left; there was nothing for them anymore. An unknown number followed Tim to his new endeavour and made themselves known over there. Striking out on his own has costs, however, and Tim sells membership and banner space to those who wish to help out. He has made follow-up requests since Tally-Ho Corner started which would indicate that it isn’t a profitable venture; he says he only wants enough to support the site, and seems to be happy to continue for the love of the hobby. He has alluded to the site not breaking even, so you can infer from that what you want about the size of the Flare Path exodus. Like I said, it’s a very niche hobby, so even 100% of Flare Path readers might not constitute a large number. One of the posts with the most engagements is a community vote on the best PC wargames; two years old, it has 144 comments and a closed comment section, so you could probably extrapolate a rough guess on readers versus commenters to see how popular the site is.
Tim would make the occasional comment about his past misadventure, but generally seemed to just carry on. Others would fight for or against him in other corners of the internet, but publicly, Tim seemed done with the whole thing and happy to just get back to writing about games.
The most blatant reference was an A2Z at the start of this year. No longer than any other entry (remember, he’s filling out 26 entries in a week, they’re usually just snippets), the entry “P is for Pointless provocation” in its entirety:
If, after my bruising departure from RPS in 2020, I had decided to start work on a “cathartic” retro FPS about gunning down dogmatic ‘trans allies’, I hope someone – a friend, colleague, or family member – would have taken me to one side and said “Tim, WTF are you doing?”. Unfortunately, no-one seems to have urged Norwegian coder Sandra Moen to think again. If they had perhaps the nasty Terfenstein 3D wouldn’t have made it onto Steam.
Tim’s back, baby! But it’s not him! But it is! In a strange, quite dickish move, an RPS writer recycled an old Flare Path to come up with
“The 25 best simulation games on PC”, with the writer credited… even though it was copied from
Tim’s 2015 article. Tim called it out in an A2Z, as “H is for Hire a new sim correspondent, you cheapskates”, and that really sums it up – they were not rewriting the list, rearranging it, or updating it, they were literally copying the original list over and slapping a new author’s name on it.
If you click the above link, you’ll see that the article now has Tim as the author, changed retroactively (again). That in itself added a new element of drama, as readers who showed up after the edit were surprised by a new article from Mr Flare Path himself. Though it says “updated” in 2022, the giveaway is that the comments are predominantly from 7 years ago, when it was originally posted. One commenter, who I’ll take at their word, seemed to be witnessing the Stalin-esque rewriting of history in real time:
Wow, I just saw that Tim Stone's name has been removed. He was there as author when I first saw it this morning, with a note about it being updated by someone else. Now his name has been fully removed as the original author. I don't know what to say, but it feels icky to rewrite history like that, very 1984.
Update - now it says article by Holly, Additional Contributions by Tim Stone. Still not accurate (seems to be the reverse or reality) but at least the original author's name is in there somewhere again.
(Not calling anyone over there a tyrant or communist or anything, merely referencing that infamous photo where people are removed one by one as they fall afoul of the Stalin regime. In this instance, taking Tim’s work and crediting to someone else, then crediting Tim in addition to the new writer, then finally just calling it a Tim article.)
People noticed that the “updated” tag was the last attempt to hide in plain sight, since there was nothing updated about the list. It was identical to the one posted by Tim in 2015. And the clue was that, according to RPS, no simulation game had managed to crack the list since 2015; the “youngest” game on the list was 7 years old (now 8), a title shared by Farming Simulator 15 and Train Simulator 15.
15, of course, being the year both games released and the year Tim wrote the list.
An odd move to dig up the bones of the past, both the article and Tim’s involvement with RPS, for a single cheap parlour trick. Needless to say, if you search for Tim Stone contributions on RPS now, his “shrine” – a pretty typical A2Z Flare Path – is not his most recent contribution to the site. Instead, it’s “The 25 best simulation games on PC” from 8 years ago.
Fittingly, in the comment section below, the most recent post is by someone seemingly oblivious to the drama surrounding Tim Stone, RPS and trans rights. They’re instead complaining that two other motor racing games were left off the list. And really, there’s probably no better tribute to the community.

2023.06.01 01:30 RyanOskey229 machines can now reason like humans
25 minutes ago, Greg Brockman, the founder of OpenAI, shared a new article on Twitter, revealing a groundbreaking achievement in mathematical problem-solving.
The full breakdown will be going live tomorrow morning
right here, but all points are included below for Reddit discussion as well.
What Happened? They've successfully trained a model that sets a new standard by rewarding each accurate step in the problem-solving process, a method known as "process supervision". This is a departure from the traditional "outcome supervision" approach, which only rewards the correct final answer.
Why It Matters? The announcement talks about two methods of training artificial general intelligence (AGI) - outcome supervision and process supervision.
More Detail: Outcome supervision involves giving feedback based on the final result, whereas process supervision provides feedback for each individual step in a process. The goal is to make the model more accurate and prevent it from making logical errors, also referred to as "hallucinations".
The researchers conducted a comparison of these two methods using a dataset that tests the model's ability to solve math problems. They found that process supervision led to better performance. In addition, process supervision was found to be more beneficial for model alignment because it encourages the model to follow a human-approved process, making its reasoning more interpretable.
In the field of AI, there's often a trade-off between safety and performance, known as the alignment tax. However, this research suggests that process supervision might actually enhance performance while improving alignment, at least in the math domain.
Why Is This Important? - Progress in Artificial General Intelligence (AGI): The methods detailed in the article represent advancements in AGI. AGI is the intelligence of a machine that can understand, learn, plan, and execute any intellectual task that a human being can. Improvements in this area bring us closer to creating machines that can solve complex problems with a level of understanding comparable to humans.
- Methodological Advancement: The research discusses a new approach to training AI models—process supervision—which rewards individual steps in a process. This is a departure from the traditional approach of outcome supervision, where models are rewarded based on the final result. This new method could have significant implications for how AI models are trained in the future.
- Improved Model Alignment: Process supervision has shown potential in making AI models more aligned with human reasoning. By rewarding each step of a process, AI models can be guided to follow a logical chain-of-thought, which might lead to more predictable and interpretable outputs.
- Possibility of Negative Alignment Tax: Usually, making AI models safer (more aligned) leads to a performance trade-off known as an alignment tax. However, in this study, process supervision led to better performance and alignment, suggesting the possibility of a negative alignment tax, at least in the domain of mathematical problem solving.
- Potential Generalization: Although the study was focused on mathematical problem-solving, if the results can be generalized to other domains, it could lead to significant advancements in other areas of AI, thus opening new avenues for AI research and applications.

2023.05.31 10:50 Nesugosu TotK placement in the timeline solution (?)
Disclosure: I haven't played the game myself buuut I've seen plenty of spoliers. If something I say is disproven by the game (which again, haven't played) let me know. Also, HUGE spoilers.
Main problem: Rauru claiming he's the founder King of Hyrule. Let's trust the bunny! Maybe the Zonai descended from the Heavens to "help" (cough take over cough) found the Kingdom! SS Link and Zelda are no more, but their descendant (daughter?) Sonia is around, she likes the guy that offered to help and makes him king consort or whatever. That's fine... But what is Ganondorf doing here when he's supposed to have been born in the era of OoT!?
So... This "solution" came to mind when I compared the new Sages to OoT Sages. Notice how the number stays the same but the "elements" they represent change a bit. But then, something weird: our "new" Sage of Spirit (Mineru) is a Zonai, NOT a Gerudo. The Gerudo have Thunder now.
Assuming BoTW (and the present portion of TotK) take place at the end of all timelines (weird convergence, #BlameHylia) like it has been said officially, what about the past portion of TotK? Answer: roughly 100 years before OoT.
The idea is, OoT Rauru is a descendant (let's say son) of Sonia and bunny Rauru. If I recall correctly, his domain as a Sage is Light AND Time, so that ads up. Mineru's descendants married into the Gerudo, giving them some latent Spirit abilities.
Let's also assume the original Ganondorf is TotK Dorf. Now, for how to make sense of this:
Ganondorf got sealed by bunny Rauru. The Gerudo were branded as traitors and exiled to a worse dessert outside of Hyrule, making them loose their connection to the goddesses, their Thunder powers and giving them round ears (pointy ears are stated to represent a connection with the goddesses in OoT. Better reception?). They kept some recessive Spirit genes courtesy of Mineru, hence Nabooru in OoT.
*Relationships between them and the Hylinans got fixed over time, they returned to the domain of the goddesses and gained their ears and Thunder back.
The funny stuff: The Twinrova are roughly 300 years old. They were around during all of this mess. They took a "sample" of Ganondorf's powers and stashed it away, just in case. 100 years pass, a new male Gerudo is born (OoT Ganondorf). He is untainted by Demise, as that guy is still sealed away... But his adoptive mothers inoculated him with some of the Demon King's essence (because they loved him so much) and he became the new vessel of Demise: an incomplete, inferior counterfeit with a fraction of his original power.
OoT happens, he gets the triforce of power blah blah blah timeline split then he FINALLY gets killed at the end of every timeline... Not a single male Gerudo was born again... Right? Well what if after all the problems that gave them the Gerudo decided to execute every baby boy as a tradition, just in case?
BoTW approaches, the seal starts to get weaker and leaks Calamity Ganon a couple of times, then it finally wears out in TotK's present and we got the OG Reincarnation of Demise back! Hurray!
Makes sense?

2023.05.30 14:17 T3m3rair3 [Event] King’s Landing in the Year 161 AC
King’s Landing, 161st Year After the Conquest The city of King’s Landing had grown quickly since its founding, with all the growing pains that that entails. No longer the smallest city in the Kingdom, it remains smaller than Lannisport and Oldtown. Jaehaerys the Conciliator and his Queen did much to ease those growing pains. The Dance had both helped and hindered that growth, with many dying in the strife of that war, but the damage also allowed for bigger, better buildings to replace those lost in the years of peace that have followed.
Three hills dominate the skyline of the city. The highest, Aegon’s High Hill, named for the founder of the city, is home to the Red Keep, and dominates the south east corner of the city. This fortress replaced the earlier Aegonfort and took a total of 10 years to complete (35 AC - 45 AC). It’s name comes from the red stone that it is made out of. Renovations have occurred since then, but as a whole it is much as it was completed then.
Map (Ignore the Maidenvault, it doesn’t exist (yet?)) Below the Red Keep, fine accommodation for the nobles not living atop the hill can be found; the higher up the Hill the finer it would be.
The Hill of Visenya, named for the Conqueror’s elder sister, dominates the south west of the city, though it lies entirely within the perimeter walls. At its summit stands a large sept, built in the reign of Aegon the Conqueror and sponsored by the High Septon of that time. It has endured where other structures have not, and much like the city it serves as developed somewhat in piecemeal. It remains an impressive structure, though not the finest in the realm amongst septs. It does not cover the whole summit; a square is also present in which the Faithful may gather on certain feast days, or for other major events held at the sept.
The Hill of Rhaenys, named for the Conqueror’s younger sister, dominates the north north east of the city, though it too lies entirely within the perimeter walls. It was once crowned by a magnificent sept, built in honour of Rhaenys after her premature death in Dorne in 10 AC. A towering structure, it was fortified by the Faith Militant then subsequently destroyed by King Maegor I Targaryen during the spell of confrontation between that King and the Faith. In its place, Maegor ordered the construction of a great domed structure to house House Targaryen’s dragons. Unsurprisingly, it was known as the Dragonpit. 77 Dragonkeepers were tasked with guarding it, though given the scale of it they are likely not the only people there. It was badly damaged in the Dance of Dragons, though much of the detritus of that conflict has been cleared, and the Dragonkeepers reformed, along with the other groups that work there. The dome remains unreplaced as yet, the King’s priorities being elsewhere.
The perimeter wall of King’s Landing is roughly rectangular in outline, with turrets near evenly spaced along its length. It is pierced by a total of seven gates, for the Seven aspects of the One God. Anticlockwise from the Red Keep: Iron Gate: Coastal Road to Rosby, Duskendale, Staunton and beyond Dragon Gate: Inland Road also going to Rosby, Duskendale and beyond Old Gate: Cross Country Road through the Fertile Crescent of the Crownlands Gate of the Gods: King’s Road (North) for Harroway and beyond Lion Gate: Gold Road for the Westerlands King’s Gate: Access to the river upstream of the docklands, with the road going east to meet up with the Gold Road before crossing the Blackwater upriver. River Gate: Access to the docks, for both connections abroad and ferrying across to the King’s Road (South) for Storm’s End and the Rose Road to Oldtown, via Bitterbridge and Highgarden.
Beyond the walls are the suburbs; much ravaged by the war, you would not be able to tell so now, having returned to their vibrant form of yesteryear. Mainly located around the gates other than the River Gate, they primarily cater to the poorer members of society, though there are also more respectable establishments to cater those late arrivals that miss the closing of the gates for the night.
The bulk of the city is dominated by squares & plazas, the broad tree lined streets that run between them and the narrower alleys that branch off them both. Trades tend to cluster around the first two, though not exclusively. Fishmonger’s Square is just inside the River Gate, and is where a market selling fish can be found each day. River Row leads from East and West of Fishmonger’s Square, to the King’s Gate and the foot of Aegon’s High Hill respectively. The properties of those who work in or around the sea can be found here, be they merchants, insurers or shipbuilders. The Square of Staves can be found in the lee of Aegon’s High Hill, and is the domain of the coopers, who supply whoever needs them. The most popular inn is called the Cooper’s Court. The Street of Steel goes from Fishmonger’s Square up the Hill of Visenya. The higher up the hill you go, the more expensive the smiths are. It continues down the far side of the Hill to join the God’s Way. The God’s Way connects the Central Square and the Gate of the Gods. The Street of Sisters connects the Hill of Visenya to the Hill of Rhaenys, reaching the top of each. The Central Square is at the centre of the city, and is the largest square. It is where the Street of the Sisters, the King’s Way, the God’s Way and the Blackwater Way meet. There is also a road leading to the Iron Gate. The King’s Way connects the Red Keep and the Central Square The Blackwater Way connects the River Gate and the Central Square The Hook is a curved street that connects the two, sweeping around in a long arc to do so. A fashionable inn is found where it meets the King’s Way at the lower reaches of Aegon’s High Hill. The Street of Flour contains numerous bakeries. It runs around the south eastern side of the Hill of Visenya. The Street of Flies contains many butchers. It lies on the Hill of Rhaenys about halfway between the Dragonpit and Flea Bottom. The Street of Silver lies below the Street of Steel on the western side of the Hill of Visenya. It is home to the jewelers and workers of silver and gold. The Street of Silk lies to the north west of the Hill of Rhaenys, and is home to many houses of pleasure. The Street of Seeds lies to the north east of the Hill of Rhaenys. It is home to not only sellers of grains, but also of flowers and their bulbs. The Street of Looms lies in the north west of the city, running parallel to the northern wall. It is home to numerous weavers, along with other processes associated with that industry.
Flea Bottom is the poorest area within the city, consisting of tightly packed slums criss-crossed with narrow alleys. It lies between the road to the Iron Gate and the southern foot of Rhaenys’ Hill. Woe betide anyone of worth who goes in there, for they are unlikely to come out again.

2023.05.29 15:14 Rude_Pudding8345 Advice on my plan to start a startup
Hey,
I would like some advice on how I should approach my plan to start a company. Namely how would you think I should approach things if I don’t find a viable idea/team.
My plan:
- I want to start a company/startup.
- I will give myself 9 months to find an idea/team. 6 of those months I will be working full time. And the last 3 months I won’t have a day job.
- for the next 6 months I will focus on ideas I have for problems I have seen and encountered. If any idea is promising I will build a co-founding team from within my network.
- if I don’t find anything in this period, for the last 3 months, I will resort to stuff like co founder matching sites to meet folks that have domain expertise + idea I can join forces with. Doing this last because during this period I won’t have a job so it will be easier to do trial projects, meet people, etc. as I understand this stuff is time consuming.
What I am unsure is what to do if I don’t find a suitable idea/team/project after this period. I basically have two options:
- (A) work on some smaller ideas of mine. I have a few ideas of info-products I could sell that could earn me some money and buy me some time. These aren’t life changing sums or ambitious enough though so I don’t want to do this for too long. Can potentially start this once my 3 month break starts.
- (B) join a Seed or Series A startup to get some early employee equity. There’s a few startups in this bucket that I think it would be cool to join. But I think it is mostly a distraction for me since it will only make it harder for me to work on my own thing. I tend to stay at places for 3-4 years.
Any thoughts on this plan? Mostly trying to figure out ways to manter the most of tua period.

2023.05.27 09:40 Karan32 flowdrive.ai - democratizing advanced driver assistance systems
| https://reddit.com/link/13t16ob/video/nwrmqiy1rb2b1/player We at flowdrive.ai are developing advanced driver assistance (ADAS) software + hardware. Our app flowpilot is installable on any mordern android phone. I am mansin, co-founder of flowdrive.ai, have worked with academic teams across universities like eth zurich, unimore. Worked for various companies in domain of AI & Robotics. We have opensource free offerings as well as premium paid versions of flowpilot (B2C). We also work with new automanufacturers to integrate our ADAS systems into their cars. (B2B) We collect driving data from our user fleet. Driving data is very valuable for mapping, training self driving car systems, etc. Given enough users, we can map whole india sitting at our home. We reuse parts from openpilot, so we are the only user installable android app that actually 'works'. Have 100+ beta tester users. Don't get fooled by the number. The barrier to entry to test the beta is high because these testers themselves have to buy hardware, and take their time to test it out on their own cars. Though we recieve massive amount of requests from people wanting to join the beta progam. We are also building a community of car and android hackers which can be found at discord.flowdrive.ai Have a nice day. submitted by Karan32 to PitchTo2amVC [link] [comments] |

2023.05.25 21:08 Contactunderground UAP Healing Case Study # 10 from Chapter 6 of “Beyond UFOs” A fifteen-year-old Jack Russell Terrier is healed of congestive heart failure, arthritis and an acute massive stroke resulting in paralysis. Joseph Burkes MD 2023
With the permission of our editor Rey Hernandez and my co-author Preston Dennett I am posting this UAP associated healing case from “Beyond UFOs.”
FREE co-founder Reinerio (Rey) Hernandez most recently has described the high strangeness events that lead to the creation of the Foundation for Research into Extraterrestrial and Extraordinary Encounters in his book “The Mind of God” published in 2022. This astounding process started with the miraculous medical healing of his family’s fifteen-year-old pet dog named Nena, which means little girl in Spanish. The Hernandez family had her since puppyhood. For several years prior to their close encounter on March 04, 2012, Nena had become increasingly debilitated. The once vigorous Jack Russell developed arthritis and her gait was impaired. Rey Hernandez stated that, “she walked like an old lady with arthritis--very gingerly and very slowly.” In addition, Nena had kidney problems and an enlarged heart. The dog was being treated with the vasodilator Viagra and a diuretic to remove excessive fluid from her small body. On March 3, 2012, she developed the sudden onset of profound weakness of all extremities. There was no history of seizures or acute trauma. According to Mr. Hernandez, Nena could only lift her head and bark. He described what happened next. “...we called our good friend Dr. Phil Cruz who is our vet and he said that she probably had a cerebral hemorrhage and that given her past medical history and this current paralysis that it was best to put her sleep the next day. My wife was hysterical, and he agreed to open his office the next day to put her to sleep.” Rey’s wife, Mrs. Dulce Hernandez, is from a strong Catholic background and spent many hours that night praying for her pet. The next morning at 6:00 a.m., the Hernandez couple was awakened by Nena’s barking. Their little dog was still paralyzed from the neck down. Dulce carried Nena downstairs to see if her pet could relieve herself outside. Rey Hernandez went back to sleep.
Downstairs Rey’s wife reportedly encountered a glowing silver object several feet across shaped like an inverted U that was floating in the living room. Rey Hernandez stated, “When my wife saw this object she immediately got down on her knees and started praying… She was holding our dog at the time and asked this “Angel” that if indeed it was an Angel,…one favor--that her dog, Nena, not suffer in her sickness.” Several minutes later Dulce called for Rey to come downstairs. He ignored her pleas until she finally came upstairs and pulled him out of bed. He asked her what was going on but she only said, “You will see, you will see…”
“I walked right behind my wife going down the stairs. She stopped next to Nena who was on the floor, still totally paralyzed lying on her back. Then, my wife and the dog disappeared right in front of my eyes! Almost immediately, I entered into a sort of hypnotic trance. It was as if you are in a state when you are waking up from a dream, half conscious and half in a dream world.” Rey reported that while in this altered state of consciousness he didn’t think about what had just happened to Dulce. He was completely dazed and as he looked into the living room he witnessed something totally strange and quite different from what Dulce described seeing. Instead of an inverted U-shaped object, Rey saw a glowing multi-colored translucent rectangular shaped object nearly a yard across. He termed this object a “Plasma Energy Being”. It hovered four feet above the living room floor. In addition, he now was experiencing a kind of tunnel vision by which he could only see a few feet around the object located in the corner of the room. The rest of the living room was blocked from his view. Rey couldn’t understand what was going on and did not even think of his wife and dog that had just disappeared right in front of him. Like an automaton he went back upstairs and into bed where he quickly fell asleep. Rey stated that this Plasma Energy Being completely controlled his consciousness.
“I immediately went to sleep …yet I do not recall having any conscious thoughts during those 45 minutes… After I ‘woke up’ from this semi-conscious hypnotic trance … I ran downstairs.” As he entered the living room Rey Hernandez reported seeing his wife and Nena rematerialize in the exact spot where they had disappeared 45 minutes before. Dulce started dancing around the room and playing with a fully healed Nena that was jumping and racing back and forth like a puppy. Dulce repeatedly shouted in joy, “The angel cured her!”
Rey stated, “My reaction was like an ATOM BOMB had exploded in my head and my reality was totally blown away. I just could not cope with what had just happened. About a week later we brought Nena to our vet, Phil Cruz, and he asked us what had happened to her. We were too embarrassed to tell him what really happened and instead told him that we changed her diet. He could not believe us because it was not rational what happened. We asked him if we should continue to give her the Viagra and the diuretic medicines and he said no because she is now very healthy. We stopped giving her all of her medications, we did not have to take her out at all hours to go to the bathroom, and she lived for about another year, having eleven months of living live like a ‘TEENAGER’… Eleven months later, for the last two weeks of her life she descended rapidly to the point where we had to put her to sleep with Phil. It was at this time that we told him what really happened. Phil looked at both my wife and I with a real weird look and totally ignored our statement of why Nena was really cured. We saw how crazy he thought we both were and changed the subject. He then continued his conversation as if nothing had happened. That is exactly how almost all of our friends have reacted when we have told them of our ‘experiences.’”
I asked Rey Hernandez what did his wife remember after she and Nena were seen to disappear? His reply was that she had a “classic missing time” episode with no recollection what-so-ever of her being removed from the living room. Dulce reported never seeing the cylinder floating in the living room that Rey saw. Importantly she experienced no passage of time between when Rey first came downstairs with her and when Nena was jumping and running around the living room 45 minutes later according to Rey’s estimate.
Commentary Joseph Burkes MD: This case, as do several previous ones, involves what appears to be a dramatic sudden healing of multiple organs by a technology so advanced that it appears to be magic. Dogs and humans as mammals have similar chronic diseases. Medical science has no cures for the types of conditions that afflicted Nena. These included, chronic degenerative arthritis, an enlarged heart, stroke with paralysis and chronic kidney disease. Currently established medical treatments administered over weeks to months can make these diseases better, but certainly not in the 45-minute interval that Nena and Dulce were presumably missing from the Hernandez home.
Any attempt to make sense out of this narrative requires considerable medical speculation. A massive stroke in the form of a cerebral hemorrhage resulting in paralysis of all four extremities involves extensive damage to large numbers of neurons. Nerve cells have limited capacities for regeneration compared to other types of tissues. For an alien science to repair such damage might require far more time than three quarters of an hour. The same line of speculation applies to the heart and the joints. For Nena to have the exercise capacity to run and jump “like a puppy,” the cartilage in multiple joints would have had to be repaired or replaced. An enlarged heart in dogs unlike in humans is not the result of atherosclerosis. Carnivores, whether they be dogs or tigers don’t develop elevated lipids that can lead to hardening of the arteries. An enlarged heart in a dog is caused usually by either a diseased mitral valve or what is called a dilated cardiomyopathy.14
In either clinical setting, cardiomyopathy or valvular disease, there are changes within the heart muscle cells that cause them to enlarge. As is the case with the brain, to cure such heart conditions requires a kind of cellular repair technology that would have to be applied to billions of individual cells. I believe it is significant to note that Nena was reportedly removed from her home and taken to some other environment where such extensive treatments presumably occurred. In the conclusion of this chapter, I address the significance of this and other presumed transfers of the witnesses in terms of what I suspect are some of the possible mechanisms for UAP healings.
Preston Dennett: The healing of “Nena” --a very poignant event--is the fourth case I’ve heard of involving an animal being healed as the result of contact with non-human intelligence. The others involving a rooster who was cured by beams of light following a cockfight, and two cases involving dogs who were more energetic following an encounter.15Otherwise, healing of animals is largely unique. It’s fascinating to see that healings extend to animals. Interestingly, healings may extend even to our plant-life. Researcher Diane Tessman reports on a case in which a forest worker experienced face-to-face contact with an apparent ET who gave him advice on the health of the forest.16 The point is, cases like Nena’s show just how far reaching contact with NHI can be.
The fact that this encounter was viewed by two fully conscious witnesses is also unusual. I’m struck by the possibility that the intelligence behind the phenomenon intended for the Hernandez’s to observe the event and was aware of how they would react. Could they know that Rey Hernandez would soon be set on pathway towards the founding of FREE? Could this be something the ETs intentionally cultivated? Could the reason for Nena’s healing be because of her good fortune of being owned by a man who would soon become highly influential in the UAP field? It’s pure speculation, of course, but I do wonder.

2023.05.25 21:07 Contactunderground UAP Healing Case Study # 10 from Chapter 6 of “Beyond UFOs” A fifteen-year-old Jack Russell Terrier is healed of congestive heart failure, arthritis and an acute massive stroke resulting in paralysis. Joseph Burkes MD 2023
With the permission of our editor Rey Hernandez and my co-author Preston Dennett, I am posting this UAP associated healing case from “Beyond UFOs.”
It’s pure speculation, of course, but I do wonder.

i “‘That the design of this epistle was to combat the doctrine delivered by certain false teachers appears from chap. [chapter] ii. 18-26, iii. 7, iv. 1-3. and what this false doctrine was may be inferred from the counter doctrine delivered by St. John, ch. [chapter] v. [verse] 1-6. The apostle here asserts that ‘Jesus is the Christ,’ and that he was the Christ “not by water only, but by water and blood.” Now these words, which are not in themselves very intelligible, become perfectly clear, if we consider them as opposed to the doctrine of Cerinthus, who asserted that Jesus was by birth a mere man; but that the ᴁon, Christ, descended on him at his baptism, and left him before his death… A proposition can never be completely understood, unless we know the author’s design in delivering it.
…
In some places, especially ch. iv. 2, 3, St. John opposes false teachers of another description, namely, those who denied that Christ was come in the flesh. Now, they who denied this were not Cerinthians, but another kind of Gnostics, called Docetes. For as, on the one hand, Cerinthus maintained that Jesus was a mere, and therefore, real man, the Docetes, on the other hand, contended, that he was an incorporeal phantom, in which the ᴁon, Christ, or divine nature, presented itself to mankind, ch. i. 1. “Our hands have handled,” appears likewise to be opposed to this error of the Docetes.’ [Michaelis
1 ]” (Clarke, 1831, pp. VI 853-858)
“The decisive argument against making I John early lies in the community setting which it presupposes. The Fourth Gospel addresses itself to the challenges posed by Judaism and others outside Johannine circles who have rejected the community’s vision of Jesus as preexistent Son, sent by the Father. The epistles [John I, II, and III] describe the fracturing of the Johannine community itself.
…
If the emphases of 1 John are a clue to the dissident views, then they seem to have held to a soteriology that proclaimed the believer sinless and rendered any representation of the death of Jesus as sacrifice useless.” (Perkins, 1990,
TNJBC pp. 987-988)
ii “However it stands today as regards the question of the authorship of these epistles, their appeal will continue to rest on the simplicity of their testimony that God is love and that love is the test of religion.
…
Contents and Occasion The view proposed in the present Introduction and Exegesis is that the three epistles have a common author and illuminate each other.
…
Epistolary Form and Style …
There are no concrete indications of the identity of the author or the recipients.
…
We find here a special form of the hortatory or ‘paraenetic’ style… the writer has his own locutions which give a peculiar stamp to the work.
…
… a demonstrative is given first place in a sentence, looking forward to its definition or explanation usually after some particle or conjunction… This is one of the features which by its frequency distinguishes the style of the epistle from that of the Gospel of John…. He also ‘uses the conditional sentence in a variety of rhetorical figures which are unknown to the gospel.’”

“In the Latin version it was formerly called
The Epistle of St. John to the Parthians; and this title was adopted by some of the ancient fathers; and in modern times has been defended by Grotius
3. But if St. John had intended this epistle for the use of the Parthians, he would hardly have written it in Greek, but would have use either the language of the country, or, if he was unacquainted with it, would have written at least in Syriac, which was the language of the learned in the Parthian empire, and especially of the Christians. We know from the history of Manes
4, that even the learned in that country were, for the most part, unacquainted with the Greek language; for to Manes, though he united literature with genius, his adversaries objected that he understood only the barbarous Syriac. That a Grecian book would not have been understood in the Parthian empire, appears from what Josephus says in the preface to his history of the Jewish war, where he declares, that work intended for Parthian Jews must be written not in Greek, but Hebrew….I would rather suppose, therefore, that the frequent use in this epistle of the words ‘light’ and ‘darkness,’ which occur in the Persian philosophy, and on the same occasions as those on which St. John has used them, gave rise to the opinion that St. John wrote it with a view of correcting the abuses of the Persian philosophy; whence it was inferred that he designed it for the use of the Christians in the Parthian empire. That St. John really designed his epistle as a warning to those Christians who were in danger of being infected with Zoroastrian principles is very probable, though the language of the epistle will not permit us to place St. John’s readers in a country to the east of the Euphrates.
…
It is … highly probable that the whole epistle, which in various places discovers an opposition to false teachers, was written against Cerinthians
5, or at least against Gnostics and Magi.
…
In the first chapter, the four first verses are opposed to the following assertion of the Gnostics: ‘that the apostles did not deliver the doctrine of Jesus as they had received it, but made additions to it, especially in the commandments… … It was consistent with their principles to regard sins as diseases: for they believed in metempsychosis, and imagined that the souls of men were confined in their present bodies as in a prison, as a punishment for having offended in the region above. According to this system the violent and irregular passions of anger, hatred, &c. were tortures for the soul; they were diseases, but not punishable transgressions of the law. … I believe … that the brotherly love of which St. John speaks, in the third chapter of this epistle, is not confined to that special love which we owe to those who are allied to us by religion; but denotes the love of our neighbor in general. Nor do I except even the 16th verse, where some think that St. John would require too much, if he meant brotherly love in general, or charity toward all men. But are there not certain cases in which it is our duty to hazard, and even sacrifice our lives, in order to rescue our neighbor? Is not this duty performed by the soldier? … it was St. John’s design … to argue from the acknowledgment of this duty, in certain cases, to the necessity of performing the less painful duty of supporting our brethren in distress, by a participation of our temporal possessions. … Dr.
Macknight … ‘The authenticity of any ancient writing is established, first, by the testimony of contemporary and succeeding authors, whose works have come down to us; and who speak of that writing as known to be the work of the person whose name it bears. Secondly by the suitableness of the things contained in such writing, to the character and circumstances of its supposed author; and by the similarity of its style to the style of the other acknowledged writings of that author. The former of these proofs is called the
external evidence of the authenticity of a writing; the latter, its
internal evidence. … On the controverted text of the three heavenly witnesses
6 I have said [see notes on 5:7 below] what truth, and a deep and thorough examination of the subject, has obligated me to say. I am satisfied that it is not genuine…” (Clarke, 1831, p. VI 853)
iii “
Background In contrast with the Gospel the epistle has almost no allusion to the Old Testament and lack evidence of Semitic style. It reflects more directly than John a Hellenistic milieu; see, e.g. [for example], the term ‘anointing’ (χρισμα [
khrisma] 2:27; etc.), and the sacramental idea that God’s ‘seed’ (σπερμα [
sperma] 3:10) makes the believer sinless, as well as the dualism which it shares with the Gospel. This Hellenistic background is not Greek, properly speaking, but Oriental-Gnostic. We have sufficient evidence of a religious outlook in the East neither Jewish nor Greek, though influencing both, to which the new faith early accommodated its message in ways quite distinct from Jewish Christianity or Paulinism. This outlook had its own prophets, its own conception of salvation, and its own oracular poetic forms. These religious conceptions had deep roots in a long past for multitudes of men. They answered to certain perennial needs of the soul more satisfyingly at various points than the Jewish terms in which the gospel was first formulated. This world view, with its contrasts of light and darkness, life and death, truth and error, was more philosophically appealing, and its story of the redeemer or light-bringer was familiar often in grandiose and moving formulation, associated with rites of baptism and with oracular discourse and hymns. Christianity in this atmosphere took on a kindred expression, and within the church teachers arose who espoused ambiguous forms of the gospel, often of a dangerous character.
For men of this background the Jewish idea of creation was inadequate to account for the world. Things arose through generation or emanation from God in a long series, and the world was separated from him by a radical alienation. The soul, though of divine origin, was a prisoner here in a domain of darkness, and could be saved only by a revealer who descends from the world of light and ushers it into eternal life. When such conceptions found their way into Christianity there was danger especially at two points. God’s final sovereignty over the world as a whole was depreciated and his final purpose in history was lost sight of. Moreover, the salvation of the soul made too little of the ethical factor in either God or man. Thus several supreme achievements of the Old Testament were forfeited. Particularly uncongenial to men of his background were the conceptions of the resurrection.
The exaggerated dualism of this outlook also had as its consequence the conviction that the divine redeemer in descending to earth could not be thought of as subjecting himself to a real embodiment in the flesh or to the humiliation of suffering in the body. Thus there were Christian teachers who denied that Christ was really born as a man and died on the Cross; he only seemed to do so. Hence they are spoken of as the Docetists (‘Seemists’). Jesus was not to be identified with Christ. A common view was that Christ’s divine nature came upon him at his baptism and left him just before his passion…It represented often a well-meant attempt to safeguard the incarnation on the Godward side but it emptied the mission of Christ of its essential element. Thus we can appreciate the vehement repudiation of the Docetists in our epistle.
…
Message and Doctrine …
In the light of the Fourth Gospel we can see that our epistle connects victory over the prince of this world with the death of Christ without special emphasis on or mention here of his resurrection (3:8; 4:4; cf. [compare with] John 122:21-21). Thus the errors of the Gnostic Christians arising from their dualistic world view are corrected, while much of their outlook and language is shared.” (Wilder, 1955, pp. XII 213-214) FOOTNOTES

4 “The origin of Manicheism is involved in obscurity, Greek and Arabian writers on the subject differing in their accounts. The Greek account is derived from the acts of a disputation said to have been held by Archelaus, bishop of Cascar in Mesopotamia, with Manes, the founder of this sect. The earliest authentic notice we have of Manes is that of Eusebius where he is described as a barbarian in life, both in speech and conduct, who attempted to form himself into a Christ and also proclaimed himself to be the very Paraclete or the Holy Spirit. Then, as if he were Christ, he selected twelve disciples his partners in the new religion and, after patching together false and ungodly doctrines collected from a thousand heresies long since extinct, he swept them off like a deadly poison from Persia upon this part of the world. All accounts agree that Mani or Manes was put to death in 277 by order of the Persian king. He was flayed alive and his skin, stuffed with straw, was publicly exhibited as a warning to like offenders. Greek writers state that Manes, whose original name was Cubricus, derived his notions chiefly from the four books of a certain Scythianus, an Arabian merchant and a contemporary of the Apostles. According to Arabian accounts Manes was the son of a pagan priest, and began at the age of twenty four years to broach his system, alleging that he received it from an angel.”

[about] 100 AD) was a gnostic and to some, an early Christian, who was prominent as a ‘heresiarch’ in the view of the early Church Fathers. Contrary to proto-orthodox Christianity, Cerinthus’s school followed the Jewish law, denied that the Supreme God had made the physical world, and denied the divinity of Jesus. In Cerinthus' interpretation, the Christ came to Jesus at baptism, guided him in his ministry, but left him at the crucifixion.
He taught that Jesus would establish a thousand-year reign of sensuous pleasure after the Second Coming but before the General Resurrection, a view that was declared heretical by the Council of Nicaea. Cerinthus used a version of the gospel of Matthew as scripture.
Cerinthus taught at a time when Christianity's relation to Judaism and to Greek philosophy had not yet been clearly defined. In his association with the Jewish law and his modest assessment of Jesus, he was similar to the Ebionites and to other Jewish Christians. In defining the world’s creator as the demiurge, he matched Greek dualism philosophy and anticipated the Gnostics. His description of Christ as a bodiless spirit that dwelled temporarily in the man Jesus matches the later Gnosticism of Valentinuss.
Early Christian tradition describes Cerinthus as a contemporary to and opponent of John the Evangelist, who wrote the Gospel of John against him. All we know about Cerinthus comes from the writing of his theological opponents.” Wikipedia

2023.05.25 16:27 WrongColorPaint Services->DHCP Server->Other Options->NTP
Couple general question about NTP servers & settings.
I have two local time devices. One is a Pi 3b+ running a ublox neo 6 and waveshare PoE type "C" hat. I am not using USB. The ublox neo 6 is attached via rs232 gpio pins using (top left moving down) +5v, +5V, GND, uart-tx, uart-rx, gpio#18 for pps).
Second is (brain fart --I forget the brand/model, it was $200 and came from a company in New Hampshire--thanks to all who recommended it to me, it's awesome.)
EDIT:
CenterClick NTP200 and NTP250 GPS Based NTP Server Appliance. It's awesome...
that I have attached serial rs232 to my lenovo m720q pfsense hardware.
Basically when I started down this road, people told me I had a few choices: #1, change the ntp server addresses at the device to point to my local time server addresses (pfsense, rpi3b+), #2, lie to the world and add domain/host overrides in services->DNS Resolver so that everyone on my network thinks that time-dot-nist-dot-gov-dot-whatever points to my pfsense hardware... Or #3, create a NAT rule so that everything udp123 points to one of my local time servers.
Here's the questions:
#1 I have two devices. I have no idea how to setup a local pool, nor do I think I have the want/need/desire to do so. But am I being foolish? I could easily do a third local device which I assume would mean creating a pool. Should I consider that?
#2 The options of a NAT and DNS Resolver only point to one machine (IP address). That's fine with two local ntp devices because pfsense points to itself, then the rpi ntp, then out to the world as a reference. But if I do a NAT or DNS Resolver, that only points to one individual IP address --should I avoid that method?
#3 What does Services->DHCP Server->Other Options->NTP do? There is one of those optional settings at the subnet level and also individually at each machine's static ip address. If I set those time server addresses to my local addresses, does that handle the whole NAT+DNS Resolveudp123 request time thing? What is the best way to sync my LAN and specifically things like cheap Chinese devices (like security cameras) that don't let you change timeserver info in the firmware?
Thanks.

This is in stark contrast to what Stanford University professor Garry Nolan said at a conference last week when asked how sure he was that extraterrestrial life was here on Earth now and that crash wreckage and reverse engineering was on-going, he said, a "hundred percent."
