2023.06.02 07:35 ColorGoreAndBigTeeth Good Ending Achieved - Finally Escaping Retail!

I'm finally escaping the minimum wage doom spiral! I work at a large chain pet store - before this job I worked at a large chain coffee and donut company and before that I worked at a retail crafts store. I have been so burnt out and so depressed and I figured that minimum wage retail cashier or food service jockey was going to be etched onto my coffin. I finally found myself hired for a big kid job - background investigator for an agency. I just need to pass a background check myself lol.
I want to give some advice for others looking to claw their way out of the system.
For company jobs, don't rely solely on sites like Indeed to find jobs. Google a job you are interested in and end the search with "careers" (quotations added). Look through the big names likes Indeed but also check the searches beneath them - a lot of bigger companies advertise careers directly on their site instead of on job search engines. Go to job fairs at locations like colleges to find companies that are a good fit. Some state governments also have job fair schedules or virtual job fairs on their website. Take community classes in your area to learn skills that can be of use in a future job you want to do - some of these community classes are paid but some of them are free in places like libraries. Apply to jobs that have qualifications that might be higher than what you currently have. Most companies need people really badly and will invest in training you to that advertised qualification.
Government jobs or jobs with government contractors is about the best thing you can do to get out of the retail system and once you're in with them at entry level you have amazing opportunities to get in somewhere doing something you love. Benefits, pay, and full-time hours are great. The rules above also apply here in searching for contractor jobs. Check out what's open on usajobs.gov or fbijobs.gov there are a lot of positions for entry level like terrorist dispatch, data entry, secretary, or trainee.
I hope some of this advice helped you guys. I want everyone to get out of the flaming cesspit that is retail and food service. It's miserable and draining and I think everyone here deserves so much more than it.

2023.06.02 07:28 osrs_100 Facts about piggies and the sun 🌞

1.Guinea pigs have no sweat glands, and heat regulation by means of sweating is not possible for them, meaning these rodents are exposed to great health risks in summer. Temperatures of 25°C and above can leave them susceptible to heat stress, from 30°C there is a high risk of death from heat.
2.Guinea pigs can then lay down on the surface and cool their bodies down. And just like humans, when it is hot for us we drink more water. Same thing for guinea pigs. Ensure that there is ample, cool and clean water for guinea pigs to drink.
3.Consider partially covering the cage with damp cloths and towels -signs of heat stroke in piggies include listlessness, laying in a stretched-out posture, panting, and drooling.
4.Cooling mats are a thing for guinea pigs and can be bought at local pet stores. Optionally wet cloths can be a cheaper option.
5.Outdoor accommodation - if you're keeping your guinea pigs outside, their hutch should be sheltered from direct sun and direct wind. In temperatures below 15°C, you should move them indoors. They are very sensitive to temperature.

What is this on my decor?
This white cloudy stuff keeps growing on this one specific decoration in my tank. This is 38ish hours of growth. We keep taking it out and rinsing it off with hot water but it comes back. What is it and what can we do to get rid of it permanently?
Pet store lady where we bought it recommended cleaning with dish soap and soaking in bleach water but she also told us when we first got the fish never use detergent of any kind to clean so I’m lost on what to do.

Went to Funko HQ in Everett,WA and searched around the store got some nice pieces and then found whitebeard just sitting behind some plushies in a rack completely hidden, then went to the comic covers and right behind the little decoration wall was Jinbe like ??? I didn’t even see the commons in the store so I wonder if they hide some around the store at times.

2023.06.02 06:18 Dead-Bowl-4572 I hunt monsters for a living. My pet wendigo is a very good boy.

Blood Moon Rising
The Appalachian Mountains loomed before me like dark sentinels, their ancient peaks shrouded in an eerie mist. The wind whispered through the trees, carrying with it the secrets of the forgotten. I tightened my grip on the shotgun in my hand, my knuckles turning white. Beside me stood a creature of legend, my pet wendigo, Milo. Its eyes glowed with a hunger that matched my own, its presence a twisted comfort in this desolate landscape.
We had been hired by a desperate family, a last resort for them. Their ancestral home nestled deep within these unforgiving mountains had become infested with eldritch demons. Creatures born from nightmares, they tore at the fabric of reality itself, preying on the weak and the unsuspecting. The family, driven to the brink of madness, had sought out our unique services, knowing that only the unholy alliance between man and wendigo stood a chance against these abominations. The family called them 'demons', and in my experience with real demons, these were not the real deal, but rather another undiscovered species of cryptid.
The moon hung low in the sky, casting an otherworldly glow upon the land. It was a blood moon, a harbinger of the horrors to come. We trudged through the thick underbrush, guided by the faint cries of the family's lost souls. Every step brought us deeper into the heart of darkness, the air thick with a sense of impending doom.
Suddenly, a guttural growl pierced the silence. I raised my shotgun, readying myself for the onslaught. The wendigo beside me crouched low, its elongated limbs poised to strike. From the shadows, a grotesque figure emerged. Its skin was a sickly gray, stretched taut over emaciated bones. Its eyes glowed with an unholy light, pulsating with a malevolence that sent shivers down my spine. It was humanoid, but barely resembling a living creature as its limbs contorted and twisted while its head snapped and clicked, its jaws drooling with hunger.
Without hesitation, I pulled the trigger.
The shotgun's blast echoed through the night, tearing through the creature's chest. It let out a shriek that curdled my blood, but still, it advanced. The wendigo leaped forward, tearing into the demon with a ferocity that defied nature. Its razor-sharp claws ripped through flesh and bone, leaving nothing but a mangled corpse in its wake.
We pressed on, our mission clear in our minds. We were here to cleanse this unhallowed ground, to rid it of the evil that had taken root. But with every step, the horrors grew more twisted, more grotesque. The demons crawled from the shadows, their forms shifting and contorting with each passing moment. They were nightmarish amalgamations of flesh and tentacles, their faces a mockery of sanity.
The shotgun became an extension of my arm, each shot a prayer for survival. The wendigo danced through the chaos, its hunger insatiable. Limbs were torn asunder, bodies rent in two. The demons howled in agony, their unearthly cries carrying through the night, a symphony of terror.
Hours turned into an eternity as we fought our way through the hive. The family's cries grew louder, their desperation fueling our resolve. Finally, we reached the heart of the infestation, a cavern bathed in an ethereal glow. The demons swarmed around us, their numbers seemingly endless.
But we were not so easily defeated. The wendigo's hunger had become a burning fire, an insatiable rage that consumed everything in its path. I fired round after round, my aim true, each shot finding its mark. The demons fell before us, their grotesque forms disintegrating into nothingness.
And then, as quickly as it had begun, it was over. The last demon fell, its dying screech echoing through the cavern. The wendigo stood before me, its chest heaving, blood dripping from its maw. We had triumphed, but at what cost?
I turned my gaze to the family, their eyes filled with a mix of awe and fear. They had witnessed the horrors unleashed upon their home, and yet, they were alive. The wendigo had saved them, had saved us all.
As we made our way back through the Appalachian Mountains, a new dawn broke on the horizon. The blood moon sank beneath the earth, its malevolent influence waning. The world seemed brighter, the air sweeter. We had faced the eldritch demons and emerged victorious.
But I knew, deep down, that the horrors we had faced would forever haunt us. The Appalachian Mountains held secrets that would never be spoken of, nightmares that would forever linger in the recesses of our minds. We had danced with the darkness and survived, but at what cost to our souls?
The wind whispered its final farewell as we disappeared into the fading mist, leaving behind a trail of blood and broken dreams. The legend of the man and his pet wendigo would be whispered among those who dared to tread these haunted mountains, a testament to the horrors that lay hidden beneath the surface.
And as the world moved on, ignorant of the terrors we had faced, I knew that the night would come again. The blood moon would rise, and once more, the man and his pet wendigo would be called upon to face the unspeakable.
"We did good," I said, petting him as we walked away. "We did good."

2023.06.02 05:59 Dead-Bowl-4572 I live in the middle of nowhere.

2023.06.02 05:50 nonbinaryunicorn Every time I think things get better, it gets worse

I have psychosis as a fun bonus to my bipolar. It manifests in the delusion that my life is literally a circle or spiral, where every time I hit a high point, I will almost immediately crash.
I started my MFA last year after getting my first solo show closed because of Covid. I was with someone, and we'd agreed I'd focus on school until I graduated and could start teaching. They walked out in October, leaving me to scramble and find a job and housing I could afford.
Because of this, I am in the process of declaring bankruptcy as I cannot pay back the CC debt I accrued trying to support us both. Because I'm declaring bankruptcy, my credit tanked so I no longer qualify for the Grad PLUS loan. Because of that, I have a balance between my scholarship/federal loan and cost of tuition.
I had saved $3k from my last payout of my loan, and I am working my ass off this summer to get the rest saved. I was going to be able to do it and use my work study to pay for supplies. And I've started dating again! Things are looking pretty good even with some uncertainty in the future.
My school upped tuition by $4k. I now need $10,000 to make it through my second and final year of college when before I needed $6,800. Even if I started working 10 hour days starting tomorrow, I will not be able to get this difference made up. And I can't get a second job because of my pets and my own precarious mental health.
I'd applied to some external scholarships. There's not a lot available when you're a white, 30 year old graduate student, and I've been rejected from the ones whose deadlines are past. I've got two more I qualify for, but my hopes aren't high tbh. I can't get a small loan because of the bankruptcy thing. My manager says she's going to talk to our boss and the owner of the store since they might have scholarships available. I've also reached out to the school's financial advisor to ask how the payment plans work.
I just feel like shit right now. It took me 9 years to finish my BFA and then 2 years to get to my MFA. I need my MFA to do what I really want to do in my life, which is teach and use that to fund a community studio for kids and elderly folks. I don't know what witch I crossed to be so cursed.

2023.06.02 05:43 jafandaus By reducing the levels of asthma triggers in the air, an air purifier can help alleviate asthma symptoms and improve the overall air quality in the home.

By reducing the levels of asthma triggers in the air, an air purifier can help alleviate asthma symptoms and improve the overall air quality in the home.
Asthma is one of the most common childhood diseases, and its prevalence is on the rise. According to global statistics, 1 in 10 children suffer from asthma. In the United States and Canada, asthma is one of the most prevalent chronic diseases in children, affecting a large number of kids. Asthma can cause symptoms such as difficulty breathing, coughing, wheezing, and chest tightness, and in severe cases, it can be life-threatening. Therefore, improving air quality is crucial for children with asthma.
An air purifier can be a particularly beneficial addition to the home for children with asthma. It can help reduce asthma triggers in the air, including PM2.5, dust, dust mites, pet dander, smoke, pollen, mold spores, VOCs, SVOCs, and odors. These pollutants can stimulate asthma symptoms and trigger attacks. By using an air purifier, it is possible to reduce the amount of these pollutants in the air and help decrease asthma symptoms. It is important to note that an air purifier should not replace medications or treatments prescribed by a doctor. However, it can provide an additional layer of protection for children with asthma by reducing asthma triggers in the air and improving overall air quality.
In addition to using an air purifier, there are other measures that can be taken to improve indoor air quality. Regular dusting and vacuuming can help reduce the amount of pollutants in the air. It is also important to avoid using irritant chemicals and fragrances in the home, as they can have a stimulating effect on children with asthma.
Globally, approximately 300 million children suffer from asthma, with around 7.7 million children affected in the United States, accounting for about 10% of the child population. In Canada, there are approximately 1 million children with asthma, representing about 9% of the child population. These statistics highlight the high prevalence of asthma in children and its significant impact on their health.
Jafända air purifiers utilize a three-stage filtration system that combines HEPA filters and activated carbon filters. The HEPA filters can remove over 99.97% of particles 0.01 micrometers and larger from the air, while the activated carbon filters can eliminate VOCs、SVOC and other chemical pollutants, such as benzene, xylene, toluene, and odorous substances. These substances can pose a threat to the respiratory health of children. Jafända air purifiers are also equipped with particle sensors that can monitor indoor PM2.5 concentrations in real time, allowing you to truly experience the improvement in air quality.
By taking appropriate measures to improve indoor air quality, we can create a safe and healthy environment for children with asthma, helping them reduce asthma symptoms and enhance their quality of life. Let’s pay attention to the issue of childhood asthma and work together to create a better future for them.
Therefore, Jafända air purifiers are your top choice for purifying the air.

2023.06.02 05:27 QAOfficial Thinking about a pet rat

I've been contemplating this for a couple years now, and I think it's time I follow through on getting a pet rat. They're clean, smart, and adorable. What's not to love.
I was doing some research in my area, but all the stores that say they have rats, either don't carry them or only have feeder rats. How or where would I go to find pups or young rats to purchase as pets?
For reference, I live in the Bay Area in California.

In the past week I’ve had my local pub, pet store, and massage therapist tell me that business really slowed down.
I know we’re on budgets but when you spend spend local. These business owners and neighbors don’t have deep pockets.
Thanks all
