Trump kicks off 2024 presidential campaign in Waco, Texas embracing January 6 fascist foot soldiers
On Saturday former President Donald J. Trump kicked off his 2024 presidential campaign with a fascist rally in Waco, Texas, that was focused, more so than usual, on the alleged political persecution of Trump and of his January 6 fascist foot soldiers.
The heavily promoted rally featured dozens of current and former Republican politicians, including Republican Reps. Matt Gaetz (Florida) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (Georgia). In both of their short speeches, Gaetz and Greene affirmed their loyalty to Trump and his fascistic militia and QAnon followers.
Gaetz attacked Trump’s Republican rivals, while Greene, fresh off her latest visit to the D.C. jail, characterized the fascists imprisoned for participating in Trump’s coup of January 6, 2021, as the “true political prisoners,” while “Antifa and BLM terrorists” were still free.
Previewing Trump’s speech, Greene said the most “terrifying” aspect of the “two-tiered justice system” in the United States was the “Democrats weaponizing the Justice Department against Trump.”
Unofficial estimates claim the number of attendees at the event, waving signs that read “Witch Hunt” and “Trump 2024,” was 15,000, however, as with every Trump rally, within 30 minutes of Trump beginning his stale, violent and grievance-filled right-wing rantings, streams of people began to leave the venue, leaving only a small crowd of a few thousand by the time the event ended.
By holding the rally less than a month before the 30th anniversary of the “Waco Massacre,” Trump was attempting to draw a connection between the federal siege of the Branch Davidian compound, which ended with the death of nearly 80 people including 25 children, and the mostly lenient sentences imposed on a few hundred Trump supporters charged for their actions on January 6, 2021.
In a first, Saturday’s rally began with the insurrectionist anthem “Justice for All.”
The song features the “January 6 choir”—violent Trump foot soldiers currently jailed for participating in the failed coup—singing the “Star-Spangled Banner,” and the architect of the coup, Trump, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
As the fascist song played, Trump stoically looked up at the large display screens which ran footage of police being assaulted at the Capitol on January 6, interspersed with stock footage of prisoners in orange jumpsuits.

The song features a choir of men imprisoned for their role in the failed January 6, 2021, coup singing the national anthem and a recording of Trump reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. [AP Photo/Evan Vucci]
In the first of an entire speech of lies, Trump claimed that the song was “number one in the country” and “that tells you that our people, love those people,” referring to the Oath Keepers, Proud Boys and other violent defendants currently incarcerated.
A recent report by JustSecurity.org based on a March 13, 2023, Washington D.C. Department of Corrections’ official list found that there are currently 20 January 6 inmates housed in the D.C. jail. Of them, 17 are accused of violently assaulting police. Of the remaining three, “which include a Proud Boys member and an Oath Keepers member,” according to JustSecurity, “all have been charged with committing other serious crimes … and one of them has already been convicted.”
Despite this, and the fact that Trump himself, the architect of the coup, has yet to be charged for plotting and inciting the violent attack on Congress, the aspiring dictator claimed multiple times throughout the rally that the “Biden regime’s weaponization of law enforcement” and the “political persecution” of Trump were the “central issue of our time.”
“The weaponization of our justice system is not as some have called, a political spectacle,” Trump grunted. “This is the central issue of our time. I think it is one of the biggest issues…”
In other words, establishing the personal immunity of Trump and his family from prosecution from anything is the “central issue” of the election, not inflation, inequality, war, poverty, climate change or the unending pandemic.
Trump spent much of the rally focused on the possible, but not at all certain, indictment from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg over alleged payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels prior to the 2016 election, a prosecution which is an easy target because it is obviously an attempt to leverage a sex scandal into a criminal case.
But there is no question Trump had in mind several other potential indictments related to the failed coup from Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith, and Fulton County (Atlanta) District Attorney Fanni Willis. These are far more worrisome to the would-be dictator, because they expose different aspects of the coup attempt...

2023.03.27 02:29 cosmomaniac Legion Raids last week

Since the Artist update, nerf to gold, silver usage to hone till 1445, legion raids have been horrible, specifically Valtan hard and Vykas normal. There are casual players who don't have any clue about mech and join reclear lobbies They do not throw nades, sleep bombs, ww etc. Despite having 4x3 with a decent roster level, they still end up failing mech and jailing the people who know mech and are constantly throwing nades, countering bosses, pinging etc.
On top of that, there are people who know all the mechs, even have Brel title but when a party member calls out the newbies for not throwing nades/not knowing mech, the veteran player goes, "Why are you being so toxic? I have a Brel title and a high roster and I'm not being this toxic."
We, as a community need to call people out in raids who do not know mech and stop blaming people who call them out. It isn't toxic if you are pointing out that one person doesn't know mech. The only way 1445 ilvl people will learn is IF you call them out and help them. No one's going to put an effort into watching a YT video or learning the mech if they are getting bussed.
TL;DR Stop calling it toxicity when someone calls out/points out the incorrect usage or no usage of battle items.

2023.03.26 18:02 meow_zedongg Dennis Randle, Robert Ives - Flora Conflicts of Interest [FULL BREAKDOWN]

2012 DENNIS RANDLE Resigns as Sheriff and takes a job with the Indiana State Fire Marshall:

Dennis Randle, who served two terms as the county sheriff, has decided to leave the department he has worked in for the past 31 years. Randle tendered his resignation to the sheriff’s merit board in December and his decision to leave was formally announced by Sheriff Tony Burns at the Dec. 30 county council meeting. The former sheriff is not leaving the life of a public servant.
Randle told the Comet he graduated from Delphi Community High School in 1974 and entered the Army as Military Police that same year. He began his civilian law enforcement career at the City of Delphi in 1977, attended the police academy in 1978 and remained a Delphi patrolman until November 1980.
“I was hired by sheriff Don Roth and then I worked under Bill Coghill and then Lee Hoard,” Randle explained. “I’ve been working for Tony Burns since I served two terms as the elected sheriff myself.”
Randle lists being hired to serve the county as one of his primary career achievements. He also considers his two-term elected office to serve the county in the highest post in the department an honor. He said taking a crew south to provide services to the victims of Hurricane Katrina was another career highlight for him.
“I really appreciate the relationships I’ve been able to develop with the jail staff, the deputies and other law enforcement officials in neighboring communities,” Randle said. “I always know that when something bad goes down, the community will come together for the victims.”
Randle comes from a long line of law enforcement and emergency workers. He considers himself someone who is good at providing direct service to those in need rather than sitting in an office.
“Just put me out on the lines and let me do my job,” he said.
Randles’ grandfather, Charles J. Randle, was the Delphi Police Chief in the 1930s. His father Bill Randle served on the Delphi Tri-Township Volunteer Fire Department for many years and his mother served in the auxiliary. One of Randle’s brothers, Chuck, served as the Camden and Colfax marshal. Another brother, Jon, is a Carroll County jailer and at one time worked part-time as a patrolman in Flora. He also has a cousin who is a police officer in Terre Haute.
Randle has accepted the position of fire investigator with the State of Indiana Fire Marshal’s Office. He will attend orientation for the job Jan. 9 and will serve in one of 11 territories. His area will encompass roughly that which is north and west of Lafayette and will include Lake County.
“I hear they have a lot of fires to investigate in Lake County,” he said. “My job will be to determine the cause and origin of fires for the local fire departments.”
Randle explained that he has been the fire investigator for the Delphi Tri-Township Fire Protection Territory and has worked with the State representative on several occasions. He said a fire chief usually initiates contact with the State for an investigator and the State provides a second opinion for any incident investigated. Randle said all fires which have fatalities must be reported to the State unless the local department has an investigator.
Randle is the father of four and also has seven grandchildren. His son, Adam, serves on the Flora Volunteer Fire Department, works at the Purdue Fire Department, and is a paramedic. His daughter, Ashlee, served on the Delphi Volunteer Fire Department, and is now a registered nurse. Another daughter, Tara, works at the Delphi Farm Bureau office and his youngest daughter, Ariel, is a student at Ivy Tech. Randle’s wife, Jean Ann, works in Lafayette.
“I have enjoyed the ride ever since I started working for the county,” Randle said. “I’ve had a tremendous time working with everyone in county government as well as county residents.”
“Like many road troops, I wanted to be able to patrol a larger area than a town when I started working for the county,” Randle said. “I discovered that there were a lot of areas and people that I didn’t know at that time and it was a pleasure being able to serve all of them.”
“It has been a pleasure working with Sgt. Randle,” Sheriff Tony Burns said. “His experience in law enforcement has been a valuable tool for us all in the department.”
“I wish him well in his new endeavor at a fire investigator for the State,” Burns concluded. “I know he will enjoy his duties with the State Fire Marshal’s office and will continue to give the same high level of service to the every community he works in.”

Randle's implicated in theft of over-than $100,000

Fifty-six-year-old Jean Ann Randle, the wife of former Carroll County Sheriff Dennis Randle, was charged Friday with two counts of theft by special prosecutor Anthony Sommer of Clinton County.
A Class C Felony charge was filed in Carroll Circuit Court for exerting “unauthorized control over the property of the Kruger Brothers Partnership, to-wit: funds held in a First Financial/Bright National Bank account, with the intent to deprive said person of any part of the use or value of the property, and the fair market value of said property was at least $100,000…” In addition, Randle was charged with a Class D Felony for exerting “unauthorized control over the property of Huffer One Inc.” for an undisclosed amount.
A nine-page affidavit signed by Indiana State Police Investigator Gregg Edwards detailed a report from the late James Huffer’s brother, Marion, to ISP. Marion Huffer stated he had reviewed records for Huffer One Inc. after his brother’s death in 2010 and discovered that his brother’s secretary, Jean Ann Randle, had been keeping the account records for the business and had written several checks to herself and sent some directly to her mortgage company, vehicle loan company, and insurance company. Huffer stated Randle was never authorized to write checks for her personal gain.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Abigail Huffer Diener told an ISP investigator she had taken ownership of her father’s law practice at Obear, Overholser, Huffer and Rider LLC after her father’s death. She said her father, Jim Huffer, practiced law for over 30 years and Jean Ann Randle was her father’s personal secretary for the past 16 years. The ISP investigator noted he reviewed checks and could observe two different signatures for “Jim Huffer.” Abigail Huffer Diener identified her father’s signature on some of the checks and not on others.
The affidavit stated that Randle was given authority by Jim Huffer to write checks for the business. Inconsistencies with amounts reported in accounts and checks written were noted during the investigation. Also noted was that an audit of financial records of the law firm was completed by the firm’s professional liability carrier and documented that funds in excess of $250,000 went to Randle through the firm in addition to her normal compensation as an employee of the firm and in addition to other funds transferred to her or her personal accounts as documented elsewhere over time.
The probable cause affidavit further alleges Randle moved roughly $234,379 from individual trusts and investments accounts into a Partnership account. The funds were later moved from the partnership account to various accounts that benefited Randle. Those accounts were Jail Meals Inc., seven credit accounts and a bank loan. Jail Meals Inc. was the corporation established by then Sheriff Dennis Randle to manage funds paid to him from Carroll County to feed inmates at the County Jail.
Former Sheriff Randle was interviewed in October 2013 by ISP Investigator Greg Edwards (later assigned to the Flora case & subsequently reassigned). Edwards reported in the affidavit that Randle’s wife, Jean Ann Randle, did one-half the accounting for Jail Meals Inc. The former sheriff stated that after Jim Huffer’s death and his wife’s firing by Abigail Huffer Diener, finances had become very strained. He said it seemed they were in a stable place while Jean Ann was working for Huffer, but since his death, the bills and credit seem to be more significant.
Carroll Circuit Court Judge Benjamin Diener and Carroll Superior Court Judge Kurtis Fouts have recused themselves from the proceedings due to perceived conflicts in the case.

2014 … Jean Ann Randle is sentencing:

It took four years for family members of the late James Huffer to realize some closure in a theft case which occurred in his law office for several years. Huffer, a local attorney and former County Prosecutor, employed Jean Ann Randle in his law firm as his personal secretary from 1993 until his death in April of 2010. Randle continued to work in the firm for Huffer’s daughter, attorney Abigail Huffer Diener, for a month after her father’s death. Diener told the Comet she fired Randle soon after she assumed her father’s place in the law firm partially because Randle refused to relinquish Jim Huffer’s personal check registers.
Diener said when a new secretary was hired, inconsistencies in several client accounts began to be discovered. A forensic auditor was contracted to fully research the situation. Charges were filed by Special Prosecutor Anthony Sommer in Carroll Circuit Court in April of this year after an investigation by the Indiana State Police (ISP). Randle was charged with two counts of Class D Felony Theft and one count of Class C Felony Theft. Special Judge Bradley Mohler of Clinton County was assigned to the case.
A plea agreement was filed by Sommer in August in which Randle agreed to plead guilty to one count of Theft, a Class D Felony. The plea agreement called for Randle to be sentenced to three years in the Indiana Department of Correction, which was suspended. Randle was placed on probation for 36 months. She agreed to pay $22,192.59 restitution to Huffer One, a farm account from which she stole money.
Diener was allowed to read a prepared statement at the Oct. 2 sentencing hearing. She told the Court Jean Ann Randle stole funds from a client’s trust account as well as Huffer One.
“The amount of money stolen and the way Jean Ann did it is nothing short of stunning,” Diener said. “Jean Ann had access to a client’s checking account by way of her employment at our law firm. Unbeknownst to the client, Jean Ann set up online banking for that account, whereby she was the only one with the login and the password.”
“Jean Ann would pay her personal bills out of that account by online payments,” Diener continued. “She paid her mortgage payment, her car payment, her Discover Card and a multitude of other credit cards.”
Diener advised the court that in 2007 Randle made eight payments to her credit cards in three months for more than $6,000. She paid nearly $88,000 in 2008 in 57 payments to credit cards and loans. Randle made 52 payments for nearly $43,000 in
2009 and in only three months in 2010, she made 12 payments for $16,000 before she was fired.
“The last payment Jean
Ann made in 2010 from the client account was to her credit card company on Oct.
1, six months to the day after my father died.”
Diener said she was able to document 129 online commissions of theft by Randle during her time at the law office. She said Randle also wrote checks from the client’s account and forged 17 checks from her father and her uncle’s farming operation,
Huffer One. Diener said Randle manipulated reports she provided to her uncle to hide the losses. Diener said Randle also appropriated thousands of dollars from the client account and paid Jail Meals,
Inc., a business which was owned by herself and her husband, then-Sheriff Dennis Randle.
“Your Honor,” Diener concluded. “Jean Ann is not a first-time offender and I doubt these crimes are her last. She is receiving very few consequences under this plea agreement – no jail time, no community service and she’s r not even responsible to pay back the client funds because our law firm’s malpractice insurance has already done that. If this conviction does nothing else, it should protect the public from Jean Ann Randle.”
After Diener completed her statement, Randle stood and spoke. She was crying when she said she was sorry for her crimes, she was remorseful and she hoped those in the courtroom would forgive her.
“I don’t buy the tears,” Judge Mohler told Randle. “I don’t buy the remorse. This didn’t have an impact on you except you got caught.”
The Judge said he was not inclined to accept the plea agreement. He said however there would be no restitution to Huffer One if she was to go to jail.
“You’re going to get a job,” the Judge told Randle. “You are going to pay 75 percent of your earnings toward your restitution.”
“129 times is staggering,” he continued. “You’d better get started. Nothing I can do will make the family feel this is just.”
The Judge also said the malpractice insurance company could file a civil law suit to recoup the $450,000 settlement to Huffer’s clients, including the interest which would have been earned if the money had stayed in the account.
Randle is required to be employed for at least 30 hours each week. She is to submit three verifiable job applications each day until she becomes employed. She is not allowed to hold a position of trust nor is she allowed to have access to anyone’s funds, including volunteer positions. The Judge gave Randle two weeks to resign from any organization in which she has access to their funds.
The Judge concluded the hearing by telling Randle that he does not believe she intends to make things right.
“I don’t think you do,” he said.
“This has had a huge impact on our law firm,” Diener told the Comet. “We didn’t say why Jean Ann was fired and we lost clients.”
“We spent tens of thousands of hours to pull all of the information together,” she continued. “Obviously, I wished she would have gotten jail time.”
“There have been a lot of times in the past four years that I wondered why I pursued prosecution,” Diener concluded. “I did it because it was the right thing to do. My clients lost their money. That was wrong.”

FLORA ARSON: 11/21/2016

Arson Determination & DHS fallout

"It's one of the worst things to ever happen in Carroll County. It might be the worst," Carroll County Prosecutor Rob Ives said speaking of the tragedy.
But unlike the killings of two teens just a few miles away in Delphi, there was no press conference, no unified stance with state and federal investigators vowing to track down the culprit, and no notification of the arson announcement to the Carroll County prosecutor.
"I don't recall that I was (contacted)," Ives revealed. "I want publicity around this case because I want it to be solved," Ives said, explaining why he agreed to sit down for an interview.
Randle wanted to send out a release announcing the arson at the end of the day on Friday, January 27. A DHS communications staffer tried to persuade him to wait, possibly until the following Monday.
"We are taking each of the rooms and looking at them independently to look for all possible causes," State Fire Marshal Jim Greeson said hours after the fire. It was the last time Greeson has spoken... about the case. At first, the Indiana State Fire Marshal's investigators thought wiring behind the refrigerator started the fire.
After 10 weeks of investigating, Randle and his team released a report ruling the fire was set intentionally accelerants found in “several locations of the structure.” however, a big part of the State’s published findings were wrong.
The fire was still considered arson, but State Police now admits, accelerants were not found all over the house; rather there was only one spot.
One day after exposing the error publicly, Randle resigned. We drove to his home in Carroll County and asked him if he had made any mistakes in the Flora case.
He replied, “Myself, I don’t believe so.”
He said he followed a nationally recognized guide for fire investigations and did not believe he’d made any mistakes.
But should Randle have been assigned to the Flora case in the first place?
Then, in January, a stunning announcement was made through a hastily sent press release on a Saturday afternoon. Indiana Department of Homeland Security arson investigator Dennis Randle released there were accelerants found throughout the home, to the surprise of his own department, it appears.
the staffer writes:
"Denny - Please review!
It's getting late in the day, so I'm not sure this will go out yet today - it might need to wait for better coverage."
Randle sent out the release anyway on Saturday afternoon, when no one was around to talk about the huge development. ISP was the lead agency at the time and was in the dark, too. Ives had asked ISP to take over the case weeks earlier.
The fallout behind the scenes was immediate.
[Doug] Carter says the release was premature, because ATF had yet to get evidence back from the lab.
A private-investigator also contacted DHS following the press-release urging the DHS to reconsider Dennis Randle's position as chief-investigator on this case. He did not receive a response from DHS.
"(The) press release by the State Fire Marshal about the conclusions of their investigation are NOT CORRECT, and completely based on speculation and NOT evidence."
"(Randle's) statement about 'accelerants' being discovered in 'several' locations is absolutely NOT based on any evidence discovered at the scene during the investigation; and the investigator Dennis Randle was not performing a proper Origin & Cause Investigation based on the current procedures."
He went on to ask for Randle to be removed from the case.
We showed the letters to both the prosecutor and the ISP superintendent.
"I don't know about this, but I'll find out," said [Doug] Carter, who was surprised by the contents.
"I've never seen this letter before," said [Rob] Ives.
Ives admits there's been little contact with the state fire marshal's office.
"The state fire marshal considers, I believe, part of its task to look into the criminal aspect of the case, but as far as I'm concerned, the lead investigative agency on this case is the Indiana State Police," Ives told 13 Investigates.

Conflicts come-to-light:

What might seem like two state agencies clashing on who leads a big case, may actually have deeper roots. Two lead detectives, one for DHS the other for the State Police, have a history: A possible conflict of interest. It dates back to 2014 [Jean Ann Randle felony conviction].
Jean Ann Randle admitted to stealing... from the attorney she worked for. The money went to pay her mortgage, credit card bills and a business she owned with her husband, Dennis Randle, the former Carroll County Sheriff -turned-now-former-DHS arson investigator. The state police investigator on Jean Randle's case? Detective Gregg Edwards - the same investigator who led the Flora fire investigation until Dennis Randle's abrupt resignation from the.
As part of the theft case, Edwards deposed Dennis Randle to determine if he knew about the stolen money. In the end, there was no proof he was aware of his wife's activities.
"Does it mean they'll be best friends? Probably not, but I don't know the answer to that question," said Carter.
The state fire marshal refused to sit down to talk about the Flora case and the appearance of conflicts of interest.
A new ISP investigator was recently assigned to take over the Flora fire investigation. Edwards, who was on the case for the first six months, transferred to another position.

Conflicts in the case?
In 2014, Randle’s wife Jean Ann Randle was convicted for stealing money from a farm account in Carroll County.
The State Trooper investigating her and interviewing Randle as part of his investigation was Trooper Gregg Edwards. Edwards is the same detective who was assigned to investigate the Flora case.
The man who collected evidence against Randle’s wife only a few years ago was now working on the same case as him.
Was this a problem?
[Doug] Carter told us this kind of thing happens in rural communities.
““From my perspective, policing in rural Indiana is very different than the urban environment that we have here in Indianapolis,” he explained. “We deal with complications associated with personal involvement in rural setting all over Indiana.”
….But does that make it right? Not everyone thinks so.
Roger Johnson served as Indiana Fire Marshal under Governor Mitch Daniels…based on their past relationship, Randle and Edwards should never have been working on the same case.
“I think the jury would end up having trouble with that,” he said.
“I would think I would’ve removed myself,” added Princess Spencer-Kuc. She is an insurance fraud investigator who tipped authorities off and helped them bring down the group responsible for setting 26 fires throughout Muncie and Anderson for insurance money.Spencer-Kuc knows how important good working relationships and communication is in an arson case. The Randle/Edwards relationship made her uncomfortable.“It would’ve been a lot smoother to have brought someone in that has no history with the other person.”
But the relationships don’t end there in the small community of Flora.
Dennis Randle’s son, Adam Randle, is the Flora Fire Chief [among the first responders & one of the several-suspects questioned in the case]. And Adam Randle’s boss is Town Council President Josh Ayres, who happens to be the owner of the Flora house [polygraphed by the ISP in 2019 in relation to this case].
We caught up with Ayres outside his company’s warehouse in Flora. He wouldn’t comment about the case...
The Carroll County Prosecutor... asked all agencies involved in the Flora investigation to avoid further discussion of the case which could impact successful prosecution in the future.

Chapter 2
"Do you believe in magic?" Ophelia asked as she watched the scenery pass by outside the car window. This realm was so dreary and dull wherever humans touched it. 'Highways' were the greatest of their sins to her. As an elf from a realm where societies grew in tune with nature, she felt the way humans attempted to... manicure the trees by the road was such an unfortunate loss of potential.
The taxi driver glanced into his rearview mirror, checking if she were talking on one of the phones humans seemed to carry everywhere, before giving her an answer, "Not insofar as I'd call it magic, but I believe there's more to the world than what we can see."
Ophelia nodded, appreciating that the man had an open mind. Before she could follow up, a streamer of harsh sunlight cut through the tree line and made her wince. The sunlight of the human realm caused her great pain despite the large, dark sunglasses. She would have much preferred if the weather were cloudy.
"It is going to rain," she did not say directly to the man, but instead just put the words out there.
"Think so?" the driver asked, ducking his head a bit to look around, "Doesn't look it."
"It will later," Ophelia said, "You know of manifestation."
"Manifestation..." he muttered, a question starting to form on his lips before something clicked in his head, "That's the thing my son does. Says if he repeats something it'll come true."
"Precisely," Ophelia confirmed, "It is a form of magic."
"Hm, just might be."
Ophelia could hear the incredulity in his voice but held her tongue. Some people just did not want to learn, even about things that would improve their ability to be in harmony with the world around them. Especially those things, it sometimes seemed. Elves knew that magic existed in the human realm. It was weaker and diluted compared to the fae realm, but it was there.
Humans experienced it every day, calling it 'luck' or 'fate', which was not far off because magic was wild and unpredictable by nature. Humans merely lacked the knowledge and willpower to utilize it. To know how to create rain, and the will to override nature itself.
Either trait on its own could utilize the unpredictable eddies. Sufficient knowledge of a subject often produced insight or intuition, allowing the beneficiary to make intellectual leaps. Enough willpower could bend the odds to conform one's desires more readily than chance. The phenomenon popularly known among humans as 'manifestation' was Ophelia's favorite example of this.
The car took the exit off of the highway towards the only building visible in the valley; a squat and stoic structure that spread out in rigid angles with nary a tree in sight. The Jefferson County Jail was the most repugnant human structure Ophelia had ever laid eyes on, and her nose wrinkled as they drove closer. The front entrance looked uninviting and the fences topped with razor wire only deepened her distaste for the place. Fae did not react well to iron, even its lesser alloys like steel were sources of great discomfort.
"You gonna be alright, miss?" the driver asked. He had driven many people to the county jail, but picked her out as different. Dark glasses, wide brim hat, and matching pale blue sundress was not a common outfit for a place like this. The conversation in the car added to her unusual mystique.
"I will be, thank you," she said, paying the fare with her borrowed credit card. "Drive safe," she added as she exited the vehicle, "It is going to rain."
She went from the drop-off point through the gate where an armed guard opened it for her. With a glance, the elf saw that there was grass within the fenced-off areas; places where the inmates could still interact with nature. Ophelia entered the front door and followed the posted instructions, answered some questions, and removed her glasses and hat. Her ears had been glamoured before she arrived in the human realm and her eyes were fine inside, away from the sun, so that was not a problem.
Ophelia followed the guard from processing to a long and narrow room with what looked like phone booths. He led her to one where she saw her closest friend sitting opposite a thick pane of glass, wearing the most horrid orange clothing the elf had ever seen. On the other side, Bea picked up the phone and gestured for Ophelia to do the same. The pale elf took her seat and held the receiver to her ear.
"I wasn't expecting a visitor today," For the first time in months, Bea smiled as she looked at her girlfriend's face, the magic of the glamor ineffective to one who had seen through it before.
Ophelia's smile also returned now that she heard Bea's voice again. "Hello Bea," she said, "I have some good news; It is going to rain."

2023.03.25 23:48 MrDatGuy96 Looking for advice for next fall as a recent graduate?

Hi, I feel somewhat stupid asking this sort of question online, but, in all honesty, I really don’t feel that I have anyone offline to ask it. Essentially, I’m struggling to determine where I should go next fall. I’m considering between two different schools and I’m trying to not only make a generally good decision, but a decision that is also best for me. I’m considering between a small private Christian Academy or a larger public school. And I feel as though anyone that I could ask offline would be affiliated with either school in some degree.
Before I get into my actual post, I should provide some further context. If I were completely honest, I would say that I’m a bit anxious of working at a public school. And this originates from my first student-teaching placement, where I had a placement with a bad cooperating teacher in another county. I struggled through the placement and more-or-less failed it (I technically failed it, but, thanks to some sort of loophole I don’t understand, I didn’t have to redo it). This was a bit traumatic for me and caused me to be far more perfectionistic as a teacher. I had to undergo a full semester of remediation before finishing to my second placement and graduating. But, even though I had a significantly better second placement, the whole situation has made it very important to me to know that I’m at the right school and have made the right decision. It has also caused me to feel as though I can’t make mistakes and, if I do, then they will think I’m not good enough to be a teacher at their school.
Needless to say, I graduated in December and I am currently working at both schools as a substitute teacher. And I’ve been trying to use this time to weigh out the pros and cons of either school, but I also feel as though my emotions are so “muddied” right now that I couldn’t make a proper decision. And last week, the private school went so far as to call me in for an interview. I think I could have answered a couple questions better, but it was a good conversation and the administrator and I talked for about an hour. I don’t know if they’ll actually hire me and, even if they reach back out to me, I’m still questioning if that would be a good choice for me.
My conclusions about both schools are the following:
I have been affiliated with the Christian Academy since about 2014, due to my brother participating in their basketball team. And since then, I have tutored, substitute taught, and helped out with their Spring and Christmas programs (among other things). I know the staff very well and even have friends that work there. They are a small school (about ~148 students, though the new administrator hopes to get enrollment up to ~180 next fall) and, having substituted grades K-5th, I’d have a ballpark idea of the students I’d have next year. And, truth be told, I kind of just like the smaller size of the school and its classrooms (even though I’ve regularly taught at the public school, I still find its larger size to be a bit overwhelming at times. And, thus, this private school often seems refreshing by comparison). The kids and families would be easier to work with as well. However, I wouldn’t make as much money (in the interview, he claimed his upcoming changes could get salary up to ~25K, but I’m skeptical and think it might end up being closer to 20K) and I’d have far more to teach within a given day than I would at the public school (which isn’t necessarily positive or negative, but just an observation). Regarding my financial situation, I still live at home and don’t have many expenses, so that’s not a concern at the moment. And they just hired this administrator back in October, so I don’t feel I know or have the rapport with him like I did with the previous.
On the other hand, the public school is where I completed my final student teaching placement. I’ve only been affiliated with them since August, but I feel as though I’ve developed a great rapport with the staff and the principal. And, due to my student teaching, I would generally have a better idea of what I full week would look like. They have far more resources and have implemented a co-teacher model, which means teachers teach the same three subjects to two blocks of students. And the day is practically over by noon (for fourth grade anyway – the rest of the day consisting of lunch, latter half of the second block, specials, recess, and dismissal). If I went there next fall, they’d start me off at about ~42K. However, they are a larger school (with about ~400 students) and have far more problematic students and a more likely chance of having crazy parents (i.e. one father was notorious for having had to be escorted out of his youngest son’s kindergarten class for using the n-word; one parent start fussing at my cooperating teacher, calling her “the f-ing worst” for her son’s own refusal to do something). I should add that of them are not all like that, but I’m just trying to give insight to the worst of which I’m aware. And the larger size makes knowing my potential roster feel like a lottery. And this concern is fueled by conversations with a first-year teacher there, who probably has one of, if not, the most difficult class in fourth grade.
I believe it appears that it would make the most sense to go to the public school next year. However, I think at my core I would rather go to the private school. I think it would create a positive year of experience and allow me to learn without having problematic students and/or parents. And, truth be told, I’ve always kind of wanted to work there. As a Christian myself, I’ve always liked the idea of working at a school that shares my values and beliefs. I really respect what they are trying to accomplish and love that I could teach those values without the taint of the public education system. Additionally, I think that I may grow to regret it later if I didn’t at least attempt to work there.
However, this is not without its own concerns. First of all, I think that I’m still somewhat afraid of going to the public school due to my bad first student-teaching placement (I was really afraid to return for my second student-teaching placement). And by going to the private school would be giving in to said fear. And, additionally, I’m afraid that I’m trying to enter my profession with training wheels installed and wrapped in bubble-wrap. Put simply, I think I’m trying to make things as easy for myself as possible. I’m also worried that I may be reluctant to apply to a public school when it comes time to do so.
Of course, even though I don’t feel as though I have someone offline to discuss this with, I have discussed this with my family. My father thinks that I’d be happy at the private school, but strongly indicates that he thinks it would be best to go ahead and get the higher income. And he says that I seem to have a strong rapport with the staff at the public school and he thinks the principal seems to like me. And this has been another note of concern for me as well, since I’m afraid losing that rapport with the staff. Realistically, even if I do choose to go the private school, it will only be for a year or so. I’m afraid of risking the loss of that rapport. This public school does have its issues, but it does have a great staff.
However, my brother thinks that I would fit in the best at the private school and that is where I would be the happiest. And I would agree that I would might be happy there, but I don’t know that that necessarily means it’s the right choice.
Of course, all of this built on the assumption that either school would actually hire me. Nothing at the moment is set in stone. There is a possibility that I may have to look elsewhere. And I’ve even questioned if either school is the right choice for me. I’m not sure if that’s a gut feeling or anxiety – as I’ve already said, I believe my emotions are muddied right now. I’ve even gone so far as to question if I should sub another year and add in some other schools from some other counties to explore all my options. These three schools are really the only ones I’m familiar with and, truth be told, I have a slight fear of the unknown. If I took this option, it would help these other schools feel less like a “wildcard.” I’ve even had a teacher recommend subbing a while before taking a full-time position.
So, with the information I’ve provided, what would your advice to me be regarding what I should do next fall. If I were completely honest, I’m very afraid to make a decision on this matter. As I’ve already said, I feel as though my emotions are somewhat muddied right now and I believe I am unable to properly make a decision. One on hand, I’ve always kind of wanted to work at this particular private school. And I fear that I may regret it later in life if I didn’t. However, I’ve also grown to really like the people of the public school and feel like they would make excellent co-workers. And I would hate to potentially lose that. Or should I continue what I’m currently doing and get to know all my options?
Thanks

2023.03.25 17:09 VelvetPhantom NPC Jail Breakout, and Other Servants Becoming Playable

Over the past year it seems like a good chunk of servants that were in NPC Jail have finally become playable: Roland, Xu Fu, Keisuke, Rasputin, Johanna, and Takasugi have all become playable in under a year. Even some servants are NPCs only very briefly, such as Constantine, Tametomo, and you could even argue the LB7 trio count since it took over a month for them to become playable. Even Bhima, who only recently showed up as an NPC, seems to be guaranteed to become playable eventually.
Furthermore, it seems that a good chunk of servants that had appeared elsewhere in Fate but not in FGO have also joined the roster since early 2022: Hephaestion, Bazett(as a psuedo), Daikokuten, Mary Anning, Riyo Rider and Assassin(as part of Super Bunyan), Charlemagne, Arcueid, and Proto Merlin. And even more seem to be on the way with the Arcade collab. Even the Ordeal Call trailer has caused speculation that there may be main story elements featuring Prototype servants and even the remaining Sakura 5.
Due to all of this, it seems that if there was a canon servant anywhere in the franchise that is not yet playable, now is the perfect time for them to finally show up as a playable servant, even without a specific collab event. Thus I ask: who do you think will appear soon? And who do you want to see finally make their playable debut?

2023.03.25 15:59 throwawayifyoureugly Are you part of a California/local 2A org? Why or why not?

Remember...all of these current court cases fighting against CA's 2A restrictions didn't just magically materialize. They were brought about via concerted effort of various individuals but also organizations:
(Non-exhaustive list)
The Renna case (handgun roster) plaintiffs are the Firearms Policy Coalition, San Diego County Gun Owners, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, and the Second Amendment Foundation.
Boland (specific roster requirements): Lance Boland , Mario Santellan, Reno May, Jerome Schammel and California Rifle and Pistols Association
Fahr et al v. City of San Diego (80% restrictions): plaintiffs are James Fahr, Desiree Bergman, Colin Rudolph, San Diego County Gun Owners and Firearms Policy Coalition
Duncan (standard cap magazines): Virginia Duncan, Richard Lewis, Patrick Lovette, David Marguglio, Christopher Waddell, and California Rifle & Pistol Association
Rhode (ammo background checks): plaintiffs are Kim Rhode, Gary Brennan, Cory Henry, Edward Johnson, Scott Lindemuth, Richard Ricks, Denise Welvang, Able’s Sporting, Inc., AMDEP Holdings, LLC, R & S Firearms, Inc., and California Rifle & Pistol Association
Miller (AW restrictions): James Miller; Wendy Hauffen; Neil Rutherford; Adrian Sevilla; Ryan Peterson; Gunfighter Tactical, LLC; John Phillips; Poway Weapons and Gear; San Diego County Gun Owners; California Gun Rights Foundation; Second Amendment Foundation; Firearms Policy Coalition
And of course, recognizing all of the relevant lawyers, legal teams, and firms that are facilitating these lawsuits.

Point of this post was to highlight that while you may not be a legal guru or a bajillionaire, that doesn't mean that can't contribute to the legal battles.
Donate money to one or more of the various 2A orgs. I know that the constant fundraiser newsletter emails may get annoying as hell, but this shit costs money.
Broke af? Then donate your time via outreach or participating in events for these various organizations. At least for Imperial, San Diego, and San Bernardino counties, there are County Gun Owners associations that put on shooting socials to mentor new gun owners, monthly meetings to share legal updates and education topics, and tabling events for outreach and to bring 2A-info to the general populace.
Lazy af to volunteer? Then at least engage in discussions with your reps and non-owners. Bringing about change starts with communication and understanding, not tribalism and name-calling. I can't find the link at the moment, but I think someone posted a thoughtful guide on "how to talk about gun ownership" either here or another 2A subreddit.
Don't sit on the sidelines and expect your 2A rights to be magically restored. Just bitching about the issues doesn't change them.
Getting off the soapbox now.

THE MAJORITY OF PEOPLE GET DISTRACTED FROM THEIR LIFE PURSUIT. THE LIFE OF LEISURE IS WHAT THEY PURSUED. ONE OF THE MOST DANGEROUS LIFE PURSUITS TO TAKE ON. THE LIFE OF PLEASURE IS BETTER. FUTURE PLEASURE MUST BE WORKED TOWARDS IN THE NOW. IN THE RIGHT NOW. ON THIS MINUTE, YOU MUST BE ENHANCING YOUR SKILL SET. OTHERWISE, THE BIG BAD WOLF WILL GET YOU ONE DAY. I PROMISE YOU PERSON, YOU DO NOT WANT THIS SCENARIO FOR YOURSELF. I DO NOT WANT THIS SCENARIO FOR YOU EITHER. IT IS A THIRTY YEAR OLD'S MINDSET NATURALLY, THE MINDSET OF LETTING GO INSTANT GRATIFICATION. OUR WORST ENEMY. TO GIVE UP NOW'S OPPORTUNITY FOR ADVANCEMENT IN OUR PERSONAL STUDIES, FOR PLEASURE. THE LESS PLEASURE YOU CAN MANAGE TO HAVE NOW, THE MORE FUTURE PLEASURE YOU WILL EXPERIENCE. ONCE YOU GET TO THIS POINT, THINGS WILL BE MUCH EASIER. YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE THE 65 YEAR OLD SLAVE TO THE AMERICAN FIAT DOLLAR. YOU DON'T EVEN WANT TO BE THE SLAVE TO THE BITCOIN. ASSUMING ONE DAY PEOPLE CAN GET PAID IN CRYPTO. IT'S A REAL THING PEOPLE. YOU NEED SOME HELP. YOU'RE AN ECONOMIC PROSTITUTE. I BET YOU'RE NOT. DON'T GET MAD AT ME, BECAUSE YOU MIGHT BE AN ECONOMIC WHORE. HELL, I MIGHT BE AN ECONOMIC WHORE. I'LL BE HONEST, I AM AN ECONOMIC WHORE. I AM PLEASED TO BE HONEST YET I AM ASHAMED TO SAY SUCH A THING. LIKE TUPAC SHAKUR SAID, EVERYBODY'S GETTING PIMPED. IT'S ABOUT HOW LONG YOU ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE PIMPED. NOW WHO IS PIMPING WHO? WHAT I'M WRITING TODAY, IN SIX MONTHS, WHEN IT COMES OUT, IS WHAT YOUNG ADULTS WILL BE SAYING TO THEIR BANKERS AND THEIR CREDITORS. R.I.P. TO PAC. THE SPIRIT LIVES ON. R.I.P. TO LISA LOPEZ AND FLIGHT KOBE. THE ECONOMIC SYSTEM, IN WHICH YOU LIVE, IS SET UP FOR YOU TO BE BONDAGE TO THE FIAT DOLLAR. THEY WANT YOU BOUND BY THE DOLLAR. THEY WANT YOU BOUND TO THE DOLLAR. THE DOLLAR IS JUST AN INSTRUMENT. THE DOLLAR IS JUST AN INSTRUMENT OF DEBT. THEREFORE YOU MY GOOD SIR ARE BEING PLAYED LIKE A FOOL. WE'RE ALL GETTING PLAYED LIKE A FOOL. THE TIME HAS COME FOR US RISE UP AGAINST OUR ECONOMIC TYRANTS AND GROW OUR OWN FREEDOM TREES. THERE'S AN ECONOMIC REVOLUTION COMING. THE ECONOMIC REVOLUTION IS ARRIVING ON TIME. WE ARE HERE RIGHT NOW, TO OBSERVE SUCH AN ECONOMIC REVOLUTION. ARE YOU READY FOR THE ECONOMIC REVOLUTION? WELL GOOD, YOU BETTER BE. YOU ARE BEST TO BE READY. IF YOU ARE NOT READY FOR THE ECONOMIC REVOLUTION, GET READY TO GET LEFT. OR THEN YOU BETTER GET RIGHT. TIGHTEN UP. EVER SEEN SOMEONE SAVE A BUNCH OF DEFLATING BALLOONS ON A STRING? IT'S CONFUSING. THE ECONOMIC OVERLORDS OF THIS WORLD LAUGH AT YOU. THEY LAUGH AT ALL OF US. THE SHIP IS SAILING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF THE OTHER SHIPS. THEY ARE SAILING IN THE DIRECTION OF A STORM. I JUST CAME FROM A STORM. I KNOW WHAT THE STORMS LOOK LIKE. THE BIG BAD WOLF, IS THE STORM. HE WILL COME AND FIND YOU ONE DAY, TO COLLECT WHAT YOU OWE. THE BIG BAD WOLF IS ALSO YOUR RETIREMENT. WHEN HE COMES, HE WILL WANT TO AUDIT YOUR FINANCIAL LIFE. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE WHAT YOU NEED THEN, HE'S TAKING YOU TO ECONOMIC JAIL. ECONOMIC JAIL, AS IN, SOMEWHERE YOU DON'T WANT TO ECONOMICALLY BE. I WANT TO BE AS HELPFUL TO THE NEXT GENERATIONS AS POSSIBLE. I WANT TO BE AS HELPFUL AS I CAN BE, TO THE PREVIOUS GENERATIONS. I WANT TO HELP MY OWN GENERATION, AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. THIS IS MY WAY OF DOING SO WITH WHAT I KNOW NOW. HOW LONG ARE YOU GOING TO STAY IN THE FOREST? HOW LONG DO YOU WANT TO STAY IN THE FOREST OF ECONOMIC SERVITUDE? I WOULD LIKE TO GET YOU OUT OF THERE, AS FAST AS POSSIBLE. HOWEVER, I REFUSE TO BE EATEN ALONGSIDE OF YOU. FAIR RIGHT? NO? FAIR ENOUGH THEN! WHO ARE YOU, TO ASK OF ME, MY LIFE, FOR YOU DON'T WANT TO SAVE YOURSELF? WHO ARE YOU, TO ASK ME, TO GET EATEN WITH YOU? IN SUCH A CASE, YOU'RE A ONE COURSE MEAL. THIS SCENARIO DOES NOT APPETIZE ME, NOT ONE MORSEL. NOT ONE MORSEL, DOES THIS SCENARIO, APPETIZE ME. SHAKESPEARE. WHAT KIND OF LIFE DO YOU AIM TO LEAD? UNTIL YOU FIGURE IT OUT, STAY TO YOURSELF. ONCE YOU DO FIGURE IT OUT, STAY TO YOURSELF SOME MORE. GET TO IT. GET IT DONE. GO FASTER. GO HARDER. INCREASE YOUR STAMINA. INCREASE YOUR DETERMINATION. INCREASE YOUR INNER DRIVE. INCREASE YOUR ENDURANCE. INCREASE THE VISCOSITY OF YOUR SKIN. I WANT YOU TO LIVE THE LIFE OF YOUR DREAMS. THE LIFE YOU DESERVE TO LIVE. FIRST, YOU HAVE TO EARN IT. I AIM TO HELP YOU EARN IT. YOU HAVE TO WANT IT. PERIOD. I GAVE UP MY SOCIAL LIFE, TO GET OUT OF THE FOREST. I AM CLOSE. WHEN I AM FULLY OUT, I CAN HELP MORE. THIS IS MY WAY OF UTILIZING MY FULL POTENTIAL. JUST LIKE MY DAD ASKED ME TO AROUND THANKSGIVING OF 2019. I PROMISED HIM I WOULD. NOW I AM ABOUT TO CALL HIM. I LOVE YOU. GET OUT OF THE FOREST, SO I CAN HUG YOU. IF NOT, THE HUG MIGHT COME FROM A BEAR. THE ECONOMIC BEAR OF UTTER BANKRUPTCY. THE ECONOMIC BEAR OF UTTER BANKRUPTCY? YES. THE ECONOMIC BEAR OF UTTER BANKRUPTCY, WILL SQUEEZE YOUR WALLET TO DEATH DOES IT PART. ECONOMIC DEATH DOES IT'S PART.

THE THREE LITTLE CONTENMPORARIES: CHAPTER SIX: INVESTING IN OTHER BUSINESSES
THE HOUSE MADE OF STICKS. THE HOUSE OF STICKS IS EQUAL TO THE HIGH PRICED SLAVE. THIS SLAVE GETS MONEY. THIS SLAVES EARNS THE DOLLAR. THIS SLAVE, GETS PAID VERY WELL, TO BE A SLAVE. THIS SLAVE, MAKES SLAVERY LOOK DELICIOUS. FINANCIALLY DELICIOUS. THIS WAGE SLAVE MAKES ECONOMIC SLAVERY LOOK FINANCIALLY DELICIOUS. THAT'S TERRIBLE. HORRIBLE. TERRIBLY HORRIBLE. HORRIBLY TERRIBLE. ALL OF THE ABOVE. WHICH ONE SOUNDS BEST? NONE OF THE ABOVE! THE HOUSE MADE OF STICKS, WILL STICK IT TO YOU ONE DAY POSSIBLY. OR STICK YOU TO IT, THE HOUSE MADE OF STICKS MAY ONE DAY. YOU CAN MAKE THE HOUSE MADE OF STICKS WORK. THE HOUSE MADE OF STICKS, CAN WORK. WE WILL HELP CONVERT STICK HOUSES TO BRICK HOUSES. WE WILL HELP TO CONVERT THE STRAW HOUSES TO THE STICK HOUSES. WE LOVE LIFE. WE WANT NOTHING MORE BUT TO ENGAGE THE TRAVELLING HELPING HAND CHALLENGE. ALL AROUND THE WORLD. ALL AROUND Z'WORLD. THE HOUSE OF STICKS CAN BE CONVERTED TO THE HOUSE OF BRICKS. THE HOUSE OF STRAW CAN BE CONVERTED TO THE HOUSE OF STICK OR BRICK. MAYBE IT CAN BE CONVERTED FROM STRAW TO BRICK DIRECTLY. A DIRECT CONVERSION. THE FINANCIAL CONVERSION. THE DIRECT FINANCIAL CONVERSION. THE HOUSE OF STICK IS WHEN YOU WORK FOR SOMEONE AND NOT ALSO TO YOUR OWN CAUSE. YOU DO NOT WORK SOLELY FOR YOURSELF. SO IN THE BRICK HOUSE, THE OCCUPANTS EITHER WORK FOR THEMSELVES, OR DO NOT WORK FOR OTHERS AT ALL. THEY EITHER ARE ENTREPRENEURIAL, BUSINESS MINDED SOLE PROPRIETORS, OR THEY ARE FINANCIALLY LEVERAGING INVESTORS OF MANY VARITIES. THERE ARE ONLY A FEW PATHS IN LIFE TO TAKE TO GET INTO THE BRICK HOUSE, YET INSIDE THERE ARE MANY ROOMS TO EXPLORE. THERE ARE MANY WAYS TO BUILD MORE AND MORE BRICK HOUSES, ONCE YOU FIGURE OUT A VIABLE WAY TO LIVE YOUR LIFE TO THE FULLEST BY GETTING YOUR EARNING POWER UP. THE STRAW HOUSE DOESN'T BELONG TO THE STRAW MAN. YOU WANT TO OWN YOUR OWN BUSINESS, SO YOU BRING IN YOUR OWN FUNDS. YOU WANT TO OWN YOUR OWN SCHEDULE. TO DO SO, YOU NEED TO EARN ELSEWHERE, ENOUGH TO SATISFY ALL DEBTS. WHATEVER ELSE ACCRUED, ARE THE PROFITS. IF YOU DON'T OWN YOUR OWN BUSINESS, WHETHER YOU DO OR DO NOT WANT TO, ONE DAY, IT IS IMPERATIVE YOU INVEST IN SOME SORT OF BUSINESS. SAY YOU WANT A BUSINESS AND HAVING $100K WOULD MEET YOUR START UP GOAL. FIGURE OUT A WAY TO INVEST IN OTHER PEOPLE'S BUSINESSES SOMEHOW, SO YOU ARE FINANCIALLY ENTITLED TO RETURN ON INVESTMENTS. THIS IS THE ECONOMIC FOUNDATION IN FRONT OF YOU. THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO DO WHAT MAY HAVE NOT BEEN DONE TO THIS DEGREE. CERTAINLY, NOT BY AS MANY PEOPLE WHO MAY END UP READING THIS MATERIAL. THE ONLY THING I CARE ABOUT IS UTILIZING MY FULL POTENTIAL. ONCE YOU UTILIZE YOUR FULL POTENTIAL, OR AT LEAST JUST BEGIN TO, THE PATHS FOR MAKING YOUR WAY FROM THE ECONOMIC FOREST OF DESTITUTION, GROW MORE VISIBLE. AKA SIMPLE. MOST PEOPLE HAVE SOME SORT OF BUSINESS THEY WOULD START. BY INVESTING IN OTHER BUSINESSES, YOU CAN ONE DAY SOON HAVE WAY, WAY, WAY, MORE MONEY THAN YOU EVER TRULY THOUGHT POSSIBLE. BUT IF THAT IS SO, THEN THAT IS SO A LIE. WE CAN MANIFEST IN OUR REALITY, WHATEVER WE DEEM POSSIBLE. AS LONG AS YOU CAN HONESTLY BELIEVE IT POSSIBLE, FOR YOURSELF, YOU WIN. I DO NOT WANT TO SAY THE WORD AGAIN. I SAID IT ONCE. ONLY ONCE. FOR EMPHASIS. AND THE WAY I SPEAK AND BETRAY YOUR PERCEPTION OF SOMEONE MY COMPLEXION. A LONG TIME AGO.

THE THREE LITTLE CONTEMPORARIES: CHAPTER SEVEN: THE PIRATE AND HIS BOOTY

IF I DON'T FIGURE HOW TO RETIRE MY ECONOMIC WOES, I WILL FOREVER BE SUBJECTED TO ECONOMIC WOES. ECONOMIC WOES SEEM TO BE WOVEN, INTO THIS FABRIC OF REALITY. HAVE YOU EVER EXPERIENCED ANY ECONOMIC WOES? HAVE YOU EVER? NOT HAVING THE BRICK HOUSE JUST TERRIFIES ME. I WOULD WAKE UP FROM MY SLEEP AND THINK "WE HAVE TO GET US, OUR FREEDOM." ECONOMIC FREEDOM. GIVE US, US FREE. GIVE US OUR FREEDOM. WE MUST BUILD OUR ECONOMIC FREEDOM FOUNDATION, OURSELVES. WHAT DOES THE PIRATE THINK ABOUT ALL DAY LONG? WE HAVE TO KEEP OUR MIND'S EYE ON THE TREASURE. EVERY STEP MUST BE ON THE MAP. THE TREASURE MAP. THE ECONOMIC HOUSE OF BRICKS IS ALL I THINK ABOUT. IT WILL CREATE BRICKS FOR EVERYONE I LOVE AND HOLD DEAR. I'VE SEEN MOST OF MY DREAMS BLOSSOM BEFORE MY VERY EYES. NOW THERE'S JUST ONE MORE DESIRE I WOULD LIKE TO ATTAIN. THE ECONOMIC PORTFOLIO. SO MY FAMILY AND MENTOR AND EVERYONE I LOVE IS GOOD. FROM THERE I CAN SPEND THE REST ON THE WORLD.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ITEONNA BELL

THE THREE LITTLE CONTEMPORARIES: CHAPTER EIGHT: A BIILION IN AIR
THE BIG BAD WOLF SYSTEM. THE BIG AND BAD WOLF SYSTEM, IS COMPRISED OF MANY THINGS. VARIOUS ELEMENTS ARE CONTAINED WITHIN THE BIG AND BAD WOLF SYSTEM. THE BIG SYSTEM. THE BIG WOLF. THE BAD WOLF. THE BIG BAD. THE WOLF SYSTEM. THE SYSTEM OF THE WOLF SOUNDS TERRIFYING, OR DOES IT NOT? THIS IS THE MOST SUSPENSEFUL PART OF THE STORY. WHAT IS THE BIG BAD WOLF? THE BIG BAD WOLF SYSTEM IS MADE UP OF THE LIST OF CONSEQUENCES OF FINANCIAL ILLITERACY. THE BIG AND BAD WOLF, CAN EAT ANY OF US UP, AT ANY GIVEN TIME. UNLESS IT WERE INCAPABLE OF FINDING US. TAX EVASION BRINGS THE BIG AND BAD WOLF. NOT PAYING RENT OR BILLS BRING THE BIG AND BAD WOLF. NOT KNOWING HOW TO DOUBLE THE DOLLAR LEGITIMATELY, WILL ULTIMATELY BRING ONE FACE TO FACE TO WITH THE BIG AND BAD WOLF. THE WOLF CAN BE PAID OFF. IT IS ACTUALLY THE WOLF'S CURRENCY IN THE FIRST PLACE. THE WOLF JUST WANTS WHAT IS HIS. IMAGINE IF THEY STARTED CHARGING COLD HARD CASH MONEY JUST TO BREATH AIR. MAYBE DR. SUESS WAS RIGHT. MAYBE THE ONCELER WAS AN OMEN OF FUTURE PROPORTIONS. PROPORTIONS? AIR? IF THEY CHARGED $30 PER HOUR FOR THE DAILY AIR SUPPLY, HOW MANY PEOPLE WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO SAVE? COULD YOU EVEN SAVE YOURSELF? WE WOULD ALL GO BANKRUPT. UNDER THOSE CIRCUMSTANCES, ANYONE UNDER BANKRUPT IS PRESUMABLY MISSING WITHOUT AIR. PERIOD. ARE WE PREPARED FOR THE DAY THE BIG AND BAD WOLF START CHARGING FOR AND THEN COLLECTING AIR? HOW MANY BOTTLES OF AIR WILL YOU HAVE? HOW MANY AIR TANKS WILL YOU BE SELLING? HOW MANY AIR TANKS WILL YOU EVEN HAVE? WILL YOU EVEN HAVE ENOUGH AIR TANKS TO SELL? COULD YOU EVEN AFFORD THREE MEALS PER DAY AT $30 PER HOUR FOR AIR ALONE? I'M TERRIFIED. ONE DAY THEY MAY CHARGE YOU FOR AIR. I WON'T BE HERE WHEN THEY START CHARGING YOU FOR AIR. IF I AM HERE WHEN THEY START CHARGING US FOR AIR, I BETTER BE A BILLIONAIRE. I TELL YOU THAT. OH BOY I DO TELL YOU SO. A SINGLE MAN ALONE, UNDER THOSE CIRCUMSTANCES OF CASH FOR AIR, WOULD BE PAYING THOUSANDS FOR AIR. ONE EXPENSIVE TICKET. ONE EXPENSIVE BOTTLE. THIS IS A BIG AND BAD WOLF SCENARIO. PICTURE ALL OF THE ECONOMIC WOES COMBINED, AS THE BIG AND BAD WOLF. IMAGINE THE COMBINED ECONOMIC WOES, AS THE BIG AND BAD WOLF, CHARGING FOR AIR. COULD YOU AFFORD $30 PER HOUR FOR AIR? HOW MANY AIR HOURS WOULD YOU HAVE ON DECK? OTHERWISE WE WOULD NOT EVEN BE ON THE DECK ANYMORE. IT WAS A COLD WORLD AND THEN ONE DAY THEY START CHARGING FOR AIR. THEN THE WORLD WAS COLDER. IMAGINE THE $30 PER HOUR AIR SUR CHARGE, AS FUTURE REPRESENTATIONS OF ECONOMIC WOES. RETIREMENT. GROWING TO RETIREMENT AGE. THE ELDERLY YEARS. HOW MANY STACKS WILL BE IN THE BAG, WHEN THE DIAPER IS FULL? HOW MANY NURSES CAN YOU PUT ON THE PAYROLL? CAN YOU BUY YOUR OWN NURSING HOME BEFORE RETIREMENT AGE? IF YOU OWN IT, THEY MIGHT TREAT YOU BETTER. HAVE YOUR OWN SUITE EQUIPPED WITH ART STUDIO. GO CRAZY IN THE STUDIO ALONE BUT SURROUNDED BY NURSES. BEAUTIFULLY INTELLIGENT NURSES. CARING NURSES. YOU PAY THESE NURSES VERY WELL. NURSE KAREN GETS PAID TO CARE INSIDE. YOU SLEEP IN A PADDED ROOM. JUST TO REMIND YOURSELF YOU HAVE FINALLY GONE CRAZY. SLEEP ON ANY SPOT YOU WOULD LIKE. THE SCARIEST THING ABOUT THE ECONOMIC SLAVERY WE ARE LIVING IN, IS IT DOES NOT JUST GO AWAY. WE MUST DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. WE MUST DO SOMETHNG ABOUT IT, BEFORE THE BIG AND BAD WOLF ARRIVES, TO COLLECT THE DEBT. THE DEBT BISCUIT IS HIS AND HE IS VERY HUNGRY. "HIM SO HUNGRY". OH SO HUNGRY.

2023.03.23 17:30 crimehive How Jeffrey Epstein Was Caught

On January 20th, 1953, Jeffrey Epstein was born in Brooklyn, New York. Epstein, who excels in math, joined the math team at Lafayette High School and briefly attended Cooper Union and NYU to study math and physics but never completed a degree program.
Instead, by the middle of the 1970s, he started instructing calculus and physics at the prestigious Dalton School in New York City. The Guardian claims that Epstein was well-known for dressing in a fur coat, gold chains, and an open shirt that showed his chest. Additionally, he at least once attended a party at a high school where his students were drinking.
It was so unsettling how he kept staring at girls in the halls and in his classroom. Later, some pupils noted how it left a lasting impression.
Even though he was never formally accused of sexual assault, one student was so uneasy around him that they spoke to a school official about it. He ultimately lost his job with the company owing to poor performance.
There were advantages to working at the prominent university. According to Vanity Fair, he made connections with influential parents through his students, including Ace Greenberg, a renowned trader and senior partner at Bear Stearns, a firm that specifically recruited men like Epstein.
The pedigree was not necessary. All they needed to be was P.S.D., Poor, Smart, and Deeply desirous to become rich quickly. Epstein was employed in 1976 as a junior assistant. Four years after entering the company, in 1980, he was promoted to senior partner. Epstein also soon picked up a ton of private clientele.
In 1981, he also quit his job at Bear Stearns to start his own wealth management business, J. Epstein & Co. In comparison to the rest of the sector, his company ran a little differently. He functioned as their financial architect, in charge of all investments, tax planning, and charitable activities, and would not accept any customer without at least $1 billion in assets.
Epstein requested power of attorney in order to manage his customers' entire fortune, but he only charged a flat fee and never accepted commissions or percentages. According to some estimates, even with a 0.5% annual management fee, one account with a $15 billion value would bring in $75 million for him every year.
Only he was capable of managing and analyzing the accounts, despite having roughly 20 accountants to keep the numbers in order, 150 employees to handle administrative tasks, and numerous attractive female aides to keep his calendar organized. He chose each and every investment on his own.
Epstein gathered acquaintances he intended to keep close, frequently those in positions of authority in politics or the sciences, in addition to his clients. For instance, he constructed his Santa Fe residence following a meeting with Nobel Prize-winning physicist Murray Gell-Mann, who at the time served as co-chair of the Santa Fe Institute's Science Board.
Another Nobel Prize winner named Gerald Edelman, who oversaw the Neurosciences Institute, claimed that Epstein once gave them $20 million a year, perhaps in exchange for their visits and inquiries about science and philosophy. However, Epstein's focused political ties were what made him most infamous.
Some claim that he made extra efforts to become close to Bill Clinton, and in 2002, future president Donald Trump claimed of Epstein,
Epstein, however, had a long-standing romantic relationship with Ghislaine Maxwell, the daughter of British media tycoon Robert Maxwell, who lived in a townhouse close to Epstein's in New York.
The heiress had acquaintances in every area, even the British monarchy, and was renowned as a socialite and party girl. Since Epstein was committed to leading a bachelor lifestyle, many speculated that despite their connection, their relationship was primarily platonic.
Epstein, though, was more than just a playboy, and Maxwell, a lovesick groupie.
All of Epstein's claimed horrendous crimes are said to have come to light in March 2005 when a 14-year-old girl confessed to her parents that something dreadful had happened to her. Anyone in Epstein's orbit may have been drawn into the immense severity of these alleged crimes. Those parents told their tale to the police. Jeffrey Epstein had assaulted their daughter at his home in Palm Beach.
She informed authorities she had been taken there by two other girls when she was brought in for interrogation, and when those other females were brought in, they pointed to two more girls who had done the same thing to them.
Numerous victims who shared the same narrative and were all minor females were quickly identified by detectives.
They took a taxi to Epstein's Palm Beach waterfront home, where they were shown via a side entrance and led upstairs to the master bedroom where Epstein was waiting. They may have been given food at this point.
The girls, who were mostly between the ages of 13 and 16, were primarily brought to Epstein's home by other victims who had been promised large sums of money to recruit new girls for him. In essence, Epstein set up a massive, cult-like pyramid scheme so he could systematically rape underage girls in his Palm Beach mansion, sometimes as frequently as three times per day.
During depositions, Epstein used his Fifth Amendment privilege to avoid self-incrimination more than 200 times as lawsuits by dozens of victims were being filed.
In 2007, Epstein's legal team was able to arrange an exceptionally favorable plea deal with the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, Alex Acosta, over breakfast at the West Palm Beach Marriott.
Jay Lefkowitz, an old friend of Acosta's from their days working together at a prominent DC law firm, was Epstein's attorney at the time. Epstein admitted to two charges of soliciting prostitution from a minor in exchange for Acosta's historic non-prosecution agreement.
The child's lawyer, Spencer Kuvin, was very disappointed with the verdict, saying, "She was taken advantage of twice, first by Epstein, and then by the criminal justice system that classified a 14-year-old kid as a prostitute."
Acosta's plea bargain reduced Epstein's sentence to just 13 months in a county jail in Florida.
Epstein was not sent to a state prison like other sex offenders, but rather to a separate section of the Palm Beach County Jail. His time in jail was cut short by the Sheriff's Office so that he could spend six days a week, twelve hours a day, at his plush West Palm Beach office. A limousine would pick Epstein up from the prison at 7:15 a.m. on most days and put him off at approximately 11:00 p.m.
The official policy of the Sheriff's Department at the time stated categorically that sex offenders were ineligible for job release. Another extraordinary agreement, which was found to be in violation of federal law by a federal judge in 2019, was approved by Acosta.
Those who might be affected by the agreement would remain in the dark. While the case was under seal, details about Epstein's alleged offenses from 2001 to 2005, such as the number of girls he raped or whether he had any accomplices, were unavailable to the public. They didn't tell the victims anything. Even though local law enforcement had sent Epstein's case to the FBI, some have said that Acosta's plea deal effectively put a stop to that investigation as well.
Acosta's arrangement guaranteed immunity from federal criminal charges for Epstein and at least four accomplices, and included a very broad language that would have protected other possible co-conspirators as well. Speculation abounds that this was done to shield any powerful individuals who could have engaged in sexual activity with minors while visiting Epstein at one of his residences.
Human trafficking-related employment laws were immediately influenced by Acosta's nomination to be Secretary of Labor under the Trump administration in 2017.
The secret that was not a secret, despite the efforts of a few influential men, was once again made public in 2018.
According to a recent investigation and scathing expose written by Julie K. Brown for The Miami Herald, authorities think that between 2001 and 2006, Epstein sexually assaulted or raped around eighty young women. Epstein was once again thrust into the spotlight by the piece, and he had no way of escaping it.
New York City investigators picked up the case on July 6th, 2019, as it became clear that Epstein's criminal activity was not limited to his Palm Beach residence. By the 8th of July, 2019, federal charges against Epstein for the sexual exploitation of minors had been filed by the US Attorney's Office in Manhattan.
If true, the charges would also include Ghislaine Maxwell, who worked with Epstein as a recruiter. Epstein was indicted in early July and subsequently pled not guilty to all charges that he had sexually exploited and abused dozens of underage girls in his Manhattan and Palm Beach mansions in the early 2000s. His trial had been scheduled for June 2020, so what happened next caught Epstein completely off guard.
Epstein was able to go about his life freely for a while despite the many charges of sexual abuse against him, but eventually, not even his immense money could save him. Epstein proposed a bond amount of around $100 million, with house arrest and armed guards provided by him at his expense. The court did not buy his explanation.
Epstein was sent to the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Lower Manhattan after his request for bail was denied. On the morning of July 23rd, 2019, at around 6:30 a.m., Epstein was discovered dead in his cell. The BBC reports that the New York medical examiner has determined the death to be a suicide by hanging.
Some have speculated that Epstein's neck injuries were self-inflicted in connection with a suicide attempt, while others have not ruled out the possibility of an assault by another inmate. As a result, the institution has come under fire for its handling of a dangerous inmate who required round-the-clock monitoring.
Ghislaine Maxwell was arrested on July 2, 2020, approximately a year after Epstein's death, and is currently in prison awaiting trial on accusations linked to the sexual trafficking of minors. For the terrible abuse that Epstein inflicted on these women, they have yet to receive any kind of justice.
Many of the women have been severely traumatized as a result of Epstein's abuse and the continuous failure of the legal and criminal justice systems to protect them.

Personal Overview:
I really love having to do these overviews based off of leaks MS paint Twitter banners because teams can't even be bothered to announce their rosters a day out from the Pro-Am. Love that. Anyway, this is a bit of a weird review for me because I actually have experience playing against a few of these guys (Krawi, Cjay, and Lyar) in official Collegiate matches, so that's cool. So let's take a look at the Valiant (spoiler: they suck!)
I've seen a lot of Krawi apologists around here lately and I'm not really sure why that's the case. I've never been all that impressed by him in Contenders; while he obviously doesn't stack up against top NA off-tanks like Coluge or Hawk, I also don't think he's all that high up in the second tier with players like False and even Vulcan. I was confused when Paris picked him up last season and I'm a bit let down that Valiant decided to go with him for 2023. Despite his decent run with Wisp in Pro-Am qualifiers he just feels unimpressive, not to mention that he is completely unproved on Main Tank characters. Weird and uninspiring pickup.
For the Valiant supports, they've decided to go with Cjay and Lyar. I'm not going to include Paintbrush in this section since it seems like he'll be filling the "John from Accounting" role on this team as a sixth player in name only. Cjay... well we know what he's done. He's a decent player but not one that stacks up with most other Flex Supports in the West Region, but that may not even be the issue. Cjay jumped ship on Odyssey just hours before Pro-Am roster lock to join Saints, and now he's abandoned Saints just a few days before Pro-Am group stage to play for Valiant. Team dynamics aren't something I talk about that much in these threads but it's a legitimate question here: as a teammate, how much trust do you put in a player who literally sabotaged a former team just around a month ago. It's something to consider. Additionally, the Valiant have Lyar. I have a personal vendetta against this guy because he was toxic in collegiate match chat once, but I also can't deny that he's a fairly underrated player. I do think this guy has flown a bit under the radar in contenders, however, I've historically been impressed by his Flex Support play. It'll be bit disappointing if he's in Main Support jail for the whole season but at least he does have experience on the role.
Finally there's the DPS, and this is probably the most redeeming part of the team. NOS is a very solid journeyman DPS player who's been in the contenders scene for a while. I'd say he's probably a step above some of the other bottom-tier Flex DPS in the league right now such as Malthel and Seicoe. A solid player who can make some plays when needed, but maybe not quite OWL level. Rounding out the roster, the Valiant's crowning jewel is Seeker. I was kind of shocked to see he didn't get picked up earlier in the offseason, especially when teams like New York, Washington, and London were looking at the hitscan market. Seeker came out swinging after being signed midseason by the Boston Uprising, easily outperforming Victoria. Seeker has a ton of potential and I'm honestly a bit sad to see him on a team like this that will very likely underperform. I do hope he can do well enough to get a starting spot somewhere better next season.
As far as last-minute rosters go, it's not too shabby, but also nothing special. This team will be competitive with the other bottom-tier rosters and that's about it. I'd also err on the side of caution when predicting in favor of this team due to rumors that they were pressured to throw by their management last year. LGE is no longer running things but given the history of the org I really don't trust them all that much.
Preseason Regional Ranking: 12th-13th

2023.03.22 00:12 jotakusan My First DWI Story - Texas, F/28

I wanted to share my whole DUI experience in case it can help some of you just going through this. It is very long, so I split it up into parts to make it more digestible, and so you can skip a part of you aren’t interested in reading it. TLDR; at the bottom.
Some key info: I’m a female and was arrested at 28 with my first DUI charge and received it while living in Texas at the beginning of 2022. BAC came in at .21 and I had crashed my car into the curb when the cops found me. I hired my own attorney and the whole ordeal took 10 months.
Part 1: The Night I got Arrested
I went to a bar I had never been to by myself. I was recovering from COVID that I had tested positive for 10 days earlier. I had tested positive on my birthday and was feeling very bored and lonely and thought it would be a great idea to go out by myself and maybe make some friends or meet someone. Pro-tip for any of you new to San Antonio, the bars on the strip over-pour. I was not aware of this at the time and that was my second mistake. My first was going out without any friend.
Long story short, I left around close but I was so drunk that I blacked out. Usually when I drink heavily, I’ll sleep it off in my car before I leave, but I was so far gone, I didn’t sleep first. I don’t remember getting into my car or crashing it. The first time I came to consciousness, I realized my car was acting weird and pulling me to the left so I got out to look at it. The next thing I remember was having a cop standing next to me and the flashing lights behind my car. I tapped my damaged side skirt with my foot, looked at the cop, and said, “I dunno what happened.” I know, I should have claimed someone I had just met was driving because they said they were okay to drive, then crashed and ran off, but I was too drunk to think that clearly.
Next thing I remember, I’m being put in a holding cell. I didn’t come back to full awareness until I had woken up in the cell. I’m a little bitch, so needless to say, I spent the rest of the night sobbing. I learned that I had denied the breathalyzer and was taken to the nurses room to get my blood drawn. I tried to deny that one too but they had a warrant. Considering this was about 4 hours after I had left the bar and taking into account my sex and body weight, I was probably at around a .28 when I left. Around 9am I was taken to the magistrates office.

Part 2: Magistrates
I was taken to the processing room and asked by a male officer, “what do you have down there?”. Very professional way of asking if I'm a man or a woman... I look like a girl, but whatever. They set me up with a female officer and she had me strip naked, bend over and cough. One of the more humiliating times of my life. Pro-tip, if you plan on getting a DWI, make sure to bring a sweatshirt or jacket because it is absolutely freezing in both the police station and magistrates office. Also, maybe wear some sweatbands to shove under the ankle cuffs. I had a lot of bruises around my ankles when I left.
To save you all of the boring details of how the next 14 hours went, just skip to part 3 from here. Between waiting, watching whatever was playing on the TV’s, and trying to sleep in between fits of crying, I went through the whole processing process. First up was the judge where I was read my charges and given my bond. The bond amount came out to $1000, and thankfully I was eligible for a PR bond. I was bonded out with a $70 fee, but that didn’t mean I could leave like I was hoping.
Next up was getting processed. Finger prints, mugshot, the works. Then I had to sit down and go over my details with the bonds office so I could be accepted for the PR bond. After that was a trip to the nurses station where I had to take a pee test to check if I was pregnant (fun fact, I’m only attracted to women so... no), asked some medical history questions, and tested for TB. I was finger printed a second time for some reason and then spent the next forever hours waiting to be released. People with severe ADHD are not built for being locked up. I thought I was going to go insane.
Around 11pm they called my name for release where I was given my inmate card and told me this would be used as my ID since I wasn’t getting my license back. Then I was brought into the exit room and received my things from the desk. Wallet, keys, shoe laces, and phone. My phone was dead and no one had a charger, and with my car being impounded, I had no way to get home. Thankfully I made friends with another lady that had been locked up and her family was picking her up. She offered to get me a ride home.

Part 3: Impounded Vehicle, Damage, and Hiring a Lawyer
The next morning, I called a lawyer one of my friends used for her DWI and set an appointment for that afternoon, then took an Uber straight to the impound lot. I got to my car and saw the full extent of the damage in the light. It was bad. I clearly got into a fight with a curb and somehow got damage on the top of my fender. I never got charged for hitting anyone, so who knows what happened there. Maybe a concrete barrier, considering how much the top of my fender was ripped up. My rocker panel was completely crushed in, stress cracks on my front bumper, front lip was hanging off a bit, both wheels were cracked and tires were flat, and my side skirt had been mostly ripped off. I called a tow truck and he dropped me off at a little family owned shop and they took the wheels off to find the tie rod was snapped, and the front lower control arm and rear control arm were bent.
Suspension repairs came out to $700. I ordered a new set of wheels and tires later that week and left my car sitting in front of the shop while I waited for the wheels to get delivered. It took an entire month to get my car back in a driveable condition because of how long it took to get the wheels. I didn’t have the money to fix the body and didn’t want to file it with my insurance due to the situation, so over a year later I’m still driving a busted up car, but at least it works. Total cost for the parts, labor, getting it out of impound and tow came out to around $2600. I had a friend’s ex look at the body damage and he told me to expect around $3400 in body repair. Pro-tip, don’t get a DWI, they’re expensive.
One more pro-tip, as soon as you get out of jail, go online and get your license replaced. It takes a couple months for your license suspension to go through, so make sure you get a replacement license in the mean time. The cops will not give you your license back. As for the lawyer, he was cheaper than the car and was a huge help. $2700 and he dealt with everything. My advice when it comes to lawyers is get one. Many will offer payment plans so you don’t have to provide cash up front. He made the whole ordeal so much easier and gave me a lot of helpful info, plus knew the prosecutors and had friends among them. I’ll get more into why you need to get a private attorney in later parts. Hiring him was simple. I went to their website and set up an appointment time. Went to his office the day after being arrested, and told him the story. He told me what to expect, let me know what he can do, and we set up the payment plan. The deductible was $200 and he set me up to pay $150 biweekly until the $2700 was paid off. I had trouble paying him back and he said no worries, just get him back by the end of the year.

Part 4: Court, License Suspension, and Legal Advice
If you just got out of jail, be prepared for many months and many court appearances. Thankfully, a lot of court in Bexar County has been moved to Zoom since COVID hit and that is still the case today. My roommate is going through it right now, but for a different crime and with a free public defender, so I will be making comparisons in Part 8.
The first court date is just you stating that you are there and willing to follow the orders of your bond, stay in the state, and all that fun stuff. They ask if you’re present and you say you are, then your attorney will introduce him or herself. The next couple court dates are a blur, just mundane conversations with the lawyer and judge. Thanks to having an attorney, I didn’t have to attend 2 of the dates and he took care of the license suspension court. I was suspended for 6 months and could request approval to drive to and from work with a Restricted Drivers License, but I didn’t want to pay for the SR22 insurance. I only drove to and from work over the next 6 months, mounted my front license plate instead of leaving it in my window, and always drove as carefully as possible. Happy to say I made it without any issues. If you do get caught, that could mean additional fees or even being arrested again if the cop is having a bad day.
During this time, my attorney gave me a list of things to do that would look good to the judge. Based on his conversations with the prosecutors, without doing those things I was looking at 18 months probation and 9 months with an interlock. These things included taking 2 different driving courses, getting my friends and family to write letters saying nice things about me, writing a letter saying nice things about myself, donating to the judge’s favorite charities, and I even went ahead and took a SASSI-4. That’s an exam you take that a therapist will review and screen you for substance use disorder and risk. My lawyer decided not to show that one to the prosecutors when my result for “Alcohol and other Drug Problem” was “High probability of substance use disorder”.
I completed everything he gave me and the prosecutors offered a plea deal for 15 months of deferred adjudication probation (which allows me to have my record wiped 2 years after completing probation) and 7.5 months with an interlock. If you live in Texas and are convicted of a DWI for the first time, you are required a minimum 12 months of probation and have to have an interlock installed for at least half of your probationary period. They say a mandatory three days incarcerated too, but this is not true. The likelihood of going to jail for your first DWI once convicted is extremely low. I talk to one guy at the bar a year ago who volunteered 30 days in jail instead of taking a plea deal. That didn’t seem like an option for me, but I wouldn’t have taken it because fuck that. He said he wished he hadn’t.

Part 5: Conviction
I voluntarily decided to get sober in September and started attending AA meetings. I received my 1 month chip the day before my final court hearing and I think this helped my case a ton. My final court hearing had to be in person. My lawyer met with the prosecutors one last time and they settled on their original deal of 15 months probation and 7.5 months on interlock, but agreed to drop me from a Misdemeanor A to a Misdemeanor B because of my voluntary 1 month completion of sobriety with AA.
Once I was called to the stand, my lawyer stood with me and spoke to the judge about my case and the plea deal. She asked me a couple yes or no questions. Make sure you always say “your honor” when you finish speaking as a show of respect. The judge will take your respect of them into account. When all was said and done, and this is why I say having a lawyer is very helpful, I pleaded no contest and the judge sentenced me to 12 months of probation because in her words, “that’s as low as I can go”, which told me she would have gone lower if she could, 6 months on interlock, and agreed to dropping me to a misdemeanor B. I wanted to bear hug my lawyer after we left the court. Thanks to him and to my efforts based on his recommendations, and my personal decision to attend AA and get sober, I was dropped from 18 months of probation and 9 months on interlock to just 12 months of deferred adjudication probation and 6 months of an interlock. I am so thankful to the judge for having some mercy on me.
After court, I went to the probation office to get registered, and my first meeting was scheduled for a month later.

Part 6: Probation
Since I had completed all of those things my lawyer suggested I do (all except the donating to the judges charity because I was broke), I had the certification already completed for the mandatory classes. Also, and this one is weird and totally up to the judge, because I was vaccinated for COVID, she dropped 20 hours from my 45 hours of community service. I don’t know why, but I’m not complaining.
My first probation meeting went well. I seem to have a good PO. She did make me aware that I had to give 3 months notice for any planned travel outside of the state, but I travel for work frequently, and usually only get 3 days to 2 weeks notice before I have to fly out, and I work outside of the country on occasion. I contacted my lawyer and he was able to get the judge to approve an Order for Travel, allowing me only 48 hours notice to my PO if I am traveling anywhere inside or outside of the country for work with a mandatory drug test within 24 hours of returning home. Once again, thank you lawyer. A free attorney would have taken months to get this approved, but it only took my attorney a week.
I’m nearly half way through my 12 months of probation, and so far I haven’t had any issues. Every drug test is clean, my certification was approved, she set me up to do my community service at the animal shelter, and that’s it! Almost… I did have to take an alcohol and drug evaluation and, like the SASSI, the counselor who evaluated me, said I have a high probability of a substance use disorder. Pro-tip, if you had a beer while on probation, even if it was just one, don’t admit that… She talked me up and was being super friendly, then asked when the last time I purchased alcohol was and my dumbass admitted to having a beer with some pizza earlier that month. Now, I have to complete a month long $500 outpatient substance abuse treatment program. I start that next week.

Part 7: Interlock
Per my plea deal, I have to have an interlock installed on my car for 6 months and had a month after my court date to get it installed. I shopped around and ultimately went with SmartStart because they had the closest location to me. That was the only reason. The reviews for every company are all equally bad. I’ve had it for almost 5 months, and I can genuinely say this is the worst part of the punishment. These thing drives me insane. I’m required to blow into it 3 times a day, even if I’m not going anywhere. I’ve had to have the technicians fix something with it twice now. The first time it locked me out even though I wasn’t in my car, the second time it kept disconnecting and I couldn’t start my car unless I fiddled with the wires.
I also had someone break into my car a couple months ago, and that dumbass stole the camera. They probably thought it was a security camera, but it is definitely not. The camera only turns on when you are blowing into the device, just to make sure you are the one blowing into it and not cheating the system by having someone else blow into it. You are responsible for any damages to the device, so that ended up costing me $300 dollars to replace plus an additional $90 for the install. That brings me to my next issue… You have to have the device calibrated once a month. Calibration means they download all of the data on the interlock device and send it to your PO. It will record any time you blew dirty, got a warning (this happens if you are close to .025 BAC), didn’t blow when it alerted you while driving, or got a lockout. And it costs $90 each time. I'm looking at 6 months of interlock costing around $1000.
This past month, I started having an issue with my battery and found that the car will completely lose power and I have to adjust the negative terminal to get power back. This wouldn’t be the worst thing ever, and it isn’t the fault of the interlock, but if I get into my car and it has power, and I blow, sometimes the car will lose power when I try to start it. This causes the interlock device to freak out when I get power back to my car, and it won’t allow me to start the engine even though it isn’t asking me to blow. I have to turn my car off, disconnect and reconnect the unit, then sit there for 10 minutes with the battery disconnected before I can reconnect it, blow into the interlock, and finally start my car. This thing is nothing but an expensive pain in my ass.
Just a little over a month left and I can say goodbye to this little piece of shit. Provided my PO doesn’t take a long time to get the request for removal and the judge doesn’t take a long time to respond. That’s my final issue. Even though there was the agreement made in court that I only had to have it for 6 months, I can’t just get it removed once I hit the 6 month mark. I have to get approval for it to be removed and this can take anywhere from a couple days to a couple months depending on how backed up the judge is. According to my PO, the judge is very backed up. It took one of my friends nearly 2 months to get approval to have hers removed. That whole time you still have to use it as normal and go in for monthly calibrations. Our court system is so convoluted.

Part 8: Private Attorney vs Public Defender
Whatever you do, do not use a public defender. If there is any possible way you can afford an attorney, do that. Even if you have to take out a loan, HIRE AN ATTORNEY. My roommate is using a public defender for the trouble she’s in, and it has been nothing but a pain in the ass. They are overworked and will only do the bare minimum for you. My attorney was so easy to contact, went out of his way to help, covered court dates for me, got a great deal with the prosecutors, and gave me tons of helpful advice. Plus he was able to help with the work order and have it approved in a week after I completed court.
My roommate’s attorney is nearly impossible to contact, and when she finally does get a hold of him, he has no idea who she is or what is going on with her case. He’s always asking her to remind him of what happened last, and asking his assistant questions too. He got the prosecutors to agree to consider dropping her case after her first court date and all they needed was her hospital records to review since she was arrested on domestic dispute charges for taking the fall for her abusive ex. She was also arrested on a warrant for missing her court date, which means she is currently on full house arrest. For the past 3 court dates, her attorney has forgotten to give the prosecutors her hospital records.
She also requested partial house arrest so she can return to work but the attorney is dragging his feet on that too. She has now been out of work for 5 months and can never get a straight answer from him when she asks if she can go to work yet. Her place of employment has rehired her twice now, but she keeps getting removed from their system because it is taking so long. It seems this second time was the last straw, because now they won’t contact her back, and she can only get approved for partial house arrest if she has employment and a schedule to prove. It feels like going in circles with this guy, and she’s extremely depressed and defeated, and I’m footing all of the bills because I’m nice and love her. But holy fuck I am BROKE.
Please, for the love of all that is good, hire a private attorney, otherwise you’re probably going to get a shit plea deal, the absolute minimum amount of help, and be stuck to navigate the court system on your own. I regret not hiring an attorney for her, because she would have had her charges dropped back in January if it wasn’t for this shitty public defender, could have gone back to work, and she would have made back what the lawyer cost a month later. Don’t put yourself through that if you don’t have to.

Part 8: Conclusion/TLDR
Anyway, if you made it this far, congrats. If I was helpful in any way, I am glad I could share. This took me a solid 3 hours to write. If you didn’t make it through, here’s the TLDR or a summary for those of you who did read most, if not all of it;
I got in an accident with a curb after blacking out and was arrested for a DWI. I declined to blow, but was given a blood test about 4 hours later, resulting in a .21 BAC. My license was suspended for 6 months because I refused the breathalyzer, although I would still recommend refusing just in case. It’s easier for a lawyer to get a dismissal on a blood test, plus there's a chance you’ll sober up enough to be under the legal limit by the time they get the warrant for the blood test. Make sure to get a replacement license as soon as you get out of jail, because it’ll take a couple months before your license is suspended.
Push for a PR bond if this is your first time being arrested and you have a clean record. The county will pay your bond and you just have to pay a fee. My bond was $1000 and I had a $70 fee. Do not accept a public defender if you can avoid it. Hire a lawyer. If you want all the details of why, you can read that in Part 7. Thanks to my lawyer and his recommendations, my charge was dropped from a Misdemeanor A to a Misdemeanor B, went from 18 months of probation and 9 months on interlock to 12 months and 6 months, and got a work travel order permitted in a week.
He was also able to get me a plea deal for deferred adjudication probation, which means you don’t get officially charged until you complete probation, and can have your record expunged after 2 years of completion. That’s great, because having a DWI on your record can be extremely limiting. You can’t go to Canada for 10 years, can’t rent a car, might not be approved for TSA PreCheck, employers will see it on a background checks, landlords and universities can see it too, and your insurance goes up. Get that expunged as soon as you can.
And finally, I wanted to put all of the costs together, including my extra costs and possible costs for anyone curious of the total.
Car Stuff - $11 for license replacement, $400 to have removed from Impound and towed to a shop, $700 on suspension repairs, estimated $3400 for body work. Total = $4511
Court/Probation Fee's - $70 for PR Bond, $2500 in court/probation fees, $120 for DUI courses, $10 a service hour, so $250 total if I don't do community service, outpatient therapy is $500. Total = $3440
LawyeInsurance - $2700 in lawyer fees, $250 for Restricted Driver License, around $800 for SR22 insurance for 6 months Total = $3750
Interlock - $540 for 6 months of calibrations, $390 for stolen camera, $90 for removal. Total = $1,020
Expunging Record - $600
Total cost when all is said and done - $13,321
Needless to say, I should have taken a $30 Uber. But hey, I've learned a lot because of what I did and there is nothing I can do but make the best of it. You can do this too. This is just one shitty hurdle in life, but you can overcome and move past it with time and effort. Thanks for reading.

2023.03.21 03:31 Jaded-Substance-3492 So my fiance went to jail..

Day 1 (I think)
After a 16 month court battle for a MISDEMEANOR charge, my fiance was sentenced with 93 days in jail.
I know.. 93 days.. big deal.. people go to prison for life. I won't get into all of the details because honestly, I'm so over all the details. It would take me a year just to explain everything. Long story short - his now ex-wife tried to screw him over in their divorce (and she did) by making false claims against him. He decided to take his case to trial. And now, I'm here.
I'm here to vent and also give advice on the immediate actions that I took.. Possibly to share information with those going through the same thing.. or how to prepare. This is my first ever experience like this. I am still in the dark LOL but here's what I did:
ADD FUNDS TO THEIR PHONE CARD AS SOON AS YOU CAN - As soon as I got home, I found the jail's resource website. From there, I got his 1 and only free phone call. It lasted about 30 seconds. That phone call then took me to a call center where I added the maximum $ amount. This enabled him to call me (a collect call) as soon as he could. He called me 3 times in the afternoon. It was very reassuring to hear his voice and to know he was okay. I'm sure it was comforting for him as well.
Some cell phone companies block collect calls. I.e. if your loved one tries to call you, and this feature is enabled, even if you added funds, they won't be able to contact you. I believe there is a debit account you can add $ to, and they can call anyone. I didn't experience this because my phone excepted the call, so I can only speculate from what I read.
There was a $50 limit for me, and each minute costs $0.21. I see on the website that there a limit for a "phone card" of $300.. I don't know what that's about. I may be only allowed to add $300 total? And then what? I don't speak to him? I don't know - I'll report back on that later if I'm put in that position.
Long story long - do your research on how to add these funds for a phone call. And add $ asap.
ADD FUNDS TO THEIR COMMISSARY ACCOUNT - One of my friends boyfriends said keep a minimum amount in their commissary. He suggested $50. I did $40 because I added the funds before I spoke to her. I'm not 100% sure what's available in a jail's commissary.. but I wanted to add this. Food was on my mind. But they may be able to purchase clothes, shoes, medicine, etc.
GIFT CARE PACKAGE - On the county's website, I saw an option to send a care package. There were many categories. From food to health to beauty to art supplies. During the next call he made, I asked him what, if anything, he wanted. He asked for a long sleeve shirt (because he said it was so f****** cold in there) and socks (because I guess you don't get the luxury of socks). He said he didn't want anything else, but I added a pad of paper and a pen. This package (I guess) gets shipped to the jail. I was thinking, maybe, there was almost like a warehouse and officers would deliver these items to his cell.
Nonetheless, the email said my order would be processed in 7 days. Like they won't even look at my order for 7 days? It will be delivered in 7 days? So he has to be cold for another week, or more??
Anyways, as an afterthought, I read that shower shoes should be one of the first things you should buy. So I went onto the same website where I ordered the clothes and stuff, and the website informed me that inmates could only receive 1 "gift package" per QUARTER. WHAT??
With that, get a full list (or make an educated guess) on everything they need/want, and place a large order.. because you won't have the opportunity again.

Thanks for reading my advice/rant/venting session. I'll be posting daily updates on my personal page. Not so much for public entertainment, LOL, more of a way to journal what I did each day while we were not together.

2023.03.20 05:33 Dead-Bowl-4572 I work at a secret government prison for monsters. Ignore their cries for help, no matter how human they sound.

Deep in the vast desert expanse of the Nevada desert, far, far away from any small towns or the prying eyes of civilians, there’s a place called the The Ninth Circle Of Hell, or more commonly known as just ‘The Ninth Circle’. It’s a massive underground complex resembling a massive bunker sprawling at least a mile wide and a hundred feet beneath the surface, extremely fortified, and monitored 24/7 by dozens of satellites and cameras. The underground prison can take a direct hit from a nuclear bomb and still keep its prisoners contained. The entire complex is specifically designed to be virtually inescapable, with only one major break-out back in 2005. The cells sometimes differ based on the temperament, aggressiveness, or threat level, but the standard cell is fortified to all hell.
Each cell is at the end of a hallway with several extremely fortified three-foot-thick steel doors that can only be opened using electronic locks. Behind those doors, there’s a classroom-sized standard prison cell with virtually unbreakable walls, and dozens of cameras inside to constantly monitor the prisoner’s movements. At a moment’s notice, the prison cell can be filled with nerve agents and gas designed for chemical warfare, but these usually only slow down the prisoners in case of a breakout. Outside their cell, are several guards in mechanized exoskeletons constantly monitoring the prisoner, but the prisoners would obliterate the guards in seconds, maybe half a minute if they were skilled.
I’ve counted at least fifty to a hundred regular guards, but there’s a few particular ones that are feared throughout the prison, for their… past. The few elite guards around here are constantly rotating, either retired or active-duty super-soldiers whose previous job was to kill unholy monsters, demons, and gods. We’ll come back to them later… Let's talk about the prisoners. Most, if not all, the prisoners kept in the Ninth Circle facility/prison have the individual capability to destroy a small town if left unchecked. Half of the prisoners are ‘Unkillables’, or ‘The Unkillable’, a collective name for any super-soldiers, people with superhuman abilities, or people with extraordinary abilities. The other half is mainly composed of extremely dangerous people, entities, creatures, beings, parasites, objects, or in some cases, groups of creatures. Why the United States government and the Department Of Supernatural And Cryptozoological Defense (DOSACD) wants to keep the prisoners alive instead of making their own roster of super-soldiers destroy them, I’ll never know.
Frankly, even someone like me has a much higher clearance level over a regular soldier, but I know for an absolute fact that the people overseeing this entire fucking operation are hiding a lot of stuff from a disposable, expendable guard like me. Ever since the Pacific Holy War war against K’lah Tegothlku which happened back in 2019, we’ve had a lot more prisoners, a few especially powerful monsters we managed to capture and wrangle back into this facility. My knowledge is only that each one of the prisoners in here has some sort of significance or use to the various organizations in our country and allied ones, whatever that might be. For now, I’ll explain the history of the Ninth Circle.
It was first founded and built in 1984 by a man named Kalhoon Willink, who at that time was the co-leader of DOSACD, and a very powerful, hidden member of the military and government. It was only a few years before his retirement when he worked with his son, Lucius (more popularly known as The Overseer) and built the prison with extreme support and guidance from the government. The entire operation was kept under wraps, and the construction took nearly a decade before the facility was finished and ready for use.
Still, this went way back, it was around the thirties and fifties that the US government and others noticed and put an emphasis on the previously present and rising hostile activity coming from supernatural beings, god-like entities, monsters, and ‘demons’. That led to organizations being secretly made by the government and military such as DOSACD, which eventually led to the need for a maximum security prison capable of holding and containing extremely dangerous people and creatures for research and further knowledge. The prison gained more and more inmates, as super-soldiers from the United States fought and brought in horrifying entities and creatures from the deep. Which leads to as of now, as we just got our newest inmate…
And I was going to have to assist them while they transport it, him, her, whatever, into its cell.
My name is Apollo Jaxx.
I’ve been a guard at the Ninth Circle for several years, and I’ve grown accustomed to living, sleeping, and staying at the prison 24/7. For being nicknamed The Ninth Circle Of Hell, it isn’t really that much of a bad place, at least for the guards. The real hell would break loose if any one of the inmates broke out. As for why and how I ended up being a guard in this sunlight-deprived facility, let’s just say I owed an old enemy a couple favors and a deal after I made some extremely drastic mistakes. That being said, most guards here are retired Tier One operators from all over the world, both retired and active-duty DOSACD agents, or people from all walks of hell.
As for me, I was dealt the cards that ended up with me working here specifically because of my physical prowess. I was naturally gifted with extreme strength, speed, reflexes, and pure athleticism, and after a few unwilling experiments, I was strong and skilled enough to be a very low-tier Unkillable. I wasn’t officially recognized or hired by DOSACD as one of their super-soldiers mainly because of my track record, but was a perfect fit for the prison. And that was one of the reasons I was specifically chosen to guard and assist the arrival of a new inmate. From what I had heard, this new one was a fucking menace.
The hour before the inmate’s arrival, I was monitoring the internal footage of the cells last night when I heard on my radio to go to the warden’s office immediately. I sighed as I got up, and walked out of the surveillance room, and down the hall to the other side of the prison, walking past cell doors every two dozen meters, as I got in the staff elevator and went a few floors up. A few minutes later, I found myself in the warden’s office, as he stood behind his desk, smoking a genuine cuban cigar and taking a puff when he spotted me.
The warden was a giant of a man, six-foot-seven, dark skin and a buzzcut, built like a brick shithouse, and deep scars covering his entire face and body from his days hunting monsters and gods of the deep. He had one hell of a track record around these parts, he had fought, beat, and captured several of the inmates himself, despite lacking any real superhuman powers.
“Apollo,” he said. “We got an hour before our new arrival, and Smith and the other suits are freaking the fuck out. The way they describe her, she’s a fucking demon. See for yourself.”
He handed me a large file containing a small stack of papers and I opened it, instantly reading over the pictures, stats, and descriptions of this particular person. I’ll quickly list a few quick key details of this particular Unkillable.
NAME: Cerberus Malefius
HEIGHT: 5’8
WEIGHT: 149 pounds
GENDER: Female
NATIONALITY: Unknown, though has Irish accent and traits
BORN: Allegedly in 1999, twenty-four years old
Cerberus was a demonic entity who was allegedly from an alternate dimension, or some sort of unnatural space on earth. Her father, though we didn't have much information about him, was one of the most dangerous and powerful entities known to our database. His name was Abaddon, a being who hopped in and out of our dimension, wreaking utter havoc wherever he went. After Task Force Nova Compass Hunter was sent to investigate the reports of Cerberus destroying a small town in Nebraska, she was nearly killed, then captured, detained, and brought over here.
Her main powers came from her insane primal and genetic aggression, intelligence, strength, speed, durability, and most of all, the uncanny ability to use surrounding supernatural and occult forces in combat. She was allegedly the last living descendant of some kind of ancient demon race hailing from deep cave systems under Siberia, though looking like a normal woman, her true form was allegedly more horrifying than anything on earth.
That’s all that was on her file before I handed it back to the warden and nodded at him.
“I’ll be waiting at the processing chamber for when she comes." I said.
***
An hour later, I was fully suited up in my bombproof riot gear, with dozens of other guards armed with automatic rifles, shotguns, and flamethrowers. We were all standing on either side of a massive hallway, where at the end was a gigantic elevator supposed to bring down the new inmate. We were all instructed to kill the inmate immediately if things went south, and my preferred weapon for that occasion was a massive, black one-sided longsword with a tanto tip and groove. Sweat dripped down my forehead as I could hear the sound of the elevator at the end of the hallway whirring, until it stopped, and the door slowly slid open, revealing a massive cage resembling a steel shipping container with dozens of locks and steel rods holding it.
We all stood in formation, ready for the inmate to pounce and rip our throats out as two of my fellow guards worked the locks on the container, and they both opened the doors to the container, revealing the prisoner. My eyes widened as I saw her, Cerberus. She was around five-foot-eight, with snow-white hair tied into a messy bun, pale porcelain skn, sharp teeth, and furious red eyes. She had a translucent muzzle around her mouth, and her arms were handcuffed and tied with parachute cords, while her legs were shackled together. Several guards were holding ropes tied to her muzzle, keeping her still. We locked eyes for a moment and she stopped shouting, and I was frozen. Her gaze was… pleasant, as if I was looking into the eyes of someone I knew a long, long time ago. I nearly tripped, snapping out of it. She was screaming and swearing at us, trying to claw and bite us as I rushed in to stop her from breaking free.
I grabbed her arms and struggled to hold her still as I held the blade of my sword to her neck and walked her to the elevator at the opposite end of the hallway.
"Fucking bitch!!" She yelled trying to elbow me but not moving too much as I held the oversized sword to her jugular.
"Calm down," I said. "It's nothing personal. Just doing my job."
She suddenly snapped her head back, and my heart pounded as my nose slightly cracked, and she pushed my sword away and jumped back, kicking me in the stomach and sending me reeling back. At once everyone in the room opened fire on her, but the bullets barely did any significant damage. A fifty-caliber sniper rifle shot through her chest and she seemed annoyed, lunging at the nearest guard while I grabbed her and put her in a rear-naked choke. She fought and tried biting through my armor as I told the other guards to cease fire. She slowly went limp and eventually passed out, before we finally managed to put her in a blacked-out cage for transport.
"We got a real wild one," one of my colleagues, Ollie, muttered as he walked past me, holding his AR-15.
