Cheapest place to get a new replacement screen?

2023.03.27 06:05 geniikairos Cheapest place to get a new replacement screen?

Mid 2014 15“ pro Retina. Have a dell laptop backpack with a hard shell, there’s a pocket where a laptop drops down into. Well I had it in there and I went. To set the bag down and I set it down a little too hard, the bottom of the bag doesn’t have any protection so the laptop his some tile floor decently hard and cracked the screen. I’m curious if anyone can point me in the right direction of getting a replacement screen. They all seem to be really expensive and pretty much the same as what I paid for the laptop, but they are like the whole shell and screen together. Any advice on what to do would be appreciated, either want to fix it or just sell it as it is and buy a newer MacBook, thanks!!

Modding a MVC2 A1U cab
So I swapped out the screen with a Dell E1715S. Did shave down the lag but now the audio always wants to max out at 15 and seems brighter then usual.
Also the top portion of the screen is also projected to the bottom if you look closely.
I was gonna screw the screen down to the metal frame but the holes don't line up like in the YouTube installation videos I've seen. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

2023.03.27 04:24 Lumpy-Dragonfly4721 Missed the Linus Discount

I always wanted to try dbrand skins and—after seeing the recent LTT sponsorship—was about to place a fairly large order for all my devices. The weekend got busy though, and I missed the shortlinus.com sale by a few hours. Silly me.
Is it worth waiting for another sale/sponsorship to pop up? Is the LTT flash sale a pretty novel, rare event? 15% ain't much of a discount, but I'd wait a month (or six) for it.

2023.03.27 03:54 blackbirrrd [USA-NY][H] RTX 3060 Ti, RX 580X, Several M.2 drives and a heatsink, Razer Kishi controllers, Intel i7 5820K, Razer Viper Mini, PowerA Nintendo Switch Controllers, PlayStation 3 [W] PayPal

Hey all, have one more drop before my post office trip on Tuesday.
Item Description Price Available?
Dell RTX 3060 Ti Scavenged from a damaged machine; card seems to work fine during the testing I did. $275 + Shipping Yes
HP RX 580X Similar as above. Didn't know there was an updated variant of the RX 580, but apparently the 580X is an improvement over the original. $75 + Shipping Yes
Aorus M.2 Heatsink Originally used with their Gen4 M.2 drive, but my motherboard had a built in heatsink so I never used this. $1.50 + Shipping Yes
Inland 512GB NVMe SSD A forbidden stick of gum. $27 + Shipping Yes
ADATA 256GB 2230 NVMe SSD A much shorter forbidden stick of gum. $15 Shipped Yes
WD Blue 500GB SATA M.2 SSD A Western Digital flavored one, but utilizes SATA, not NVMe. $23 + Shipping Yes
Kioxia 512GB NVMe SSD This is one of the less common B+M key NVMe drives. $27 + Shipping Yes
Samsung PM9A1 1TB NVMe SSD Another OEM drive, this time from Samsung. These tend to be super close in performance to their off-the-shelf variants. $45 + Shipping Yes
Samsung PM981 515GB NVMe SSD Another Samsung OEM drive. $27 + Shipping Yes
Micron 512GB NVMe SSD Micron, one of the kings of the gum sticks. $27 + Shipping Yes
Union Memory 128GB 2242 NVMe SSD Another short one from a brand I do not recognize. $6 + Shipping Yes.
Razer Kishi Mobile Controller All of these are the USB-C version, sorry iPhone folk! Also have quite the handful of these available. $16 + Shipping Yes
Intel i7-5820K This has been around for a while. I don't have an HEDT board to go with it which is probably why it never got used. I see these don't have much value nowadays, but hopefully someone finds it useful! $17 + Shipping Yes
Razer Viper Mini Mouse Again, no need for more mice for me lmao. Also sealed! $25 + Shipping Yes
PowerA Nintendo Switch Wired Controller (Black) A decent controller. $10 + Shipping Yes
PowerA Nintendo Switch Wired Controller (Super Mario) A decent controller, but Mushroom Kingdom flavored. $12 + Shipping Yes
PlayStation 3 Took a gamble on a lot of "untested" PS3 units and to my surprise, two of the three worked great. This one here, however, does not, which sucks since this is one of the backwards compatible units. 4 USB ports, CF/SD/Memstick card readers, this is the best PS3. Hopefully some console fixer with energy and time can bring this machine back to life and put it to good use. The system receives power, but hitting the power button gives a green light, then a yellow light one second later, then a blinking red light one second after the yellow. I remember blinking reds being a hardware failure, and unfortuantely I do not have the time nor skill to diagnose it. That said, this thing holds it's value stupidly well, and for good reason. $40 + Shipping Yes
Some of these are items from the previous post; everything will be shipped out by Tuesday afternoon.

2023.03.27 03:27 13376993 XPS 15 9520 two-finger scrolling issue - cursor jumping and clicking around

I'm at wit's end. I've had the laptop for about 24 hours. Whenever I two-finger scroll, especially with my fingers tightly together, the trackpad glitches out (cursor jumps around and randomly clicks for as long as my fingers remain on the touchpad). I'm not experiencing any issues when I keep my fingers apart, but I've always two-finger scrolled with my fingers touching, so I keep falling back in the habit and the glitching starts again. I Just closed a window on accident while trying to scroll. I am going to ask Dell for a replacement unless someone can convince me this is an issue inherent with all XPS 9520s, in which case I'll just return it.

2023.03.27 02:22 AllTomorr0wsParties Laptop Install Question

Hello all- I'm in the process of making the move from Mac to Linux and I feel like Zorin is the best option for me to get started (I have some background in Debian going back several years but that was work related not personal). I'm looking for a decent laptop to get started with and one that I can basically take on the road with me traveling. I've found a decent priced Dell XPS 13 and I wanted to get the communities' take on the viability for what I'm essentially hoping would be an easy out of the box install. I'd really appreciate any input. Thank you!

2023.03.27 02:18 Blmlozz (speculation) FW 16 seems powered by USBC= 100W max power.

there are one or two slides that show what looks to be a USB input on the rear of the GPU /rear expansion port and, no other visible power input ports on the laptop itself. This tells me framework 16 will still be USB-C powered. While I am firmly on the hype train and will almost certainly order one of these for my downstairs gaming laptop, I really would have liked to see a more robust power delivery. As it is, I'm thinking 35W CPU's and, 6600/4060 graphics on this laptop max. Making it on-par with the likes of an xps 15 and other 15/16inch ultrabooks. thoughts? opinions? share them here!

$680 NEW POST W/ LOWERED PRICE - $625 shipped
Hello again Swappers! Up for sale is Dell's newly redesigned XPS 13, the 9320 Plus. This is the model with 1200p 16:10 touchscreen, i5-1240P, 8gb of RAM (soldered, sadly), and a super-fast 512GB NVME (I tested it at over 6,000 MBps Read!). No original box but I'll ship it securely inside an Eastport backpack. Original Dell 60W USB-C charger included.
This has one moderate mark on the corner (might be able to sand it down?) and a couple of other smaller marks--all pictured. The screen and deck are pristine - the imperfections are on the edges. The original owner had the Premium Plus plan through Aug. 2024 which includes Accidental damage coverage, and had received this as a replacement/upgrade from another claim. Works great and looks super-futuristic.
Really nice, slim machine and lightning fast. I'm half-tempted to keep it but I usually prefer something with a discrete GPU.

2023.03.26 23:22 VeterinarianFinal414 Laptop Won’t Start

I was playing a game on my laptop last night while on a call with my friends, then the WiFi on my laptop randomly disappeared. I went into the settings to try to reconnect but it just was completely gone. I was tired anyway so I just went to sleep and hoped it would be fixed and fine in the morning. When I woke up, I turned it on to get back to the game, but then it froze on the Dell startup screen. I left it for about 15 minutes to try to get it to load. I came back and nothing happened so I decided to restart it. The same thing happened again. The next time I turned it on, I unplugged my mouse and it went to some white screen that I kinda forgot what happened on. All I remember is that it made a really loud beep randomly that scared the ever living poopy out of me. I clicked the button that said it would restart but then it went to a BSOD. It asked me if I wanted to do some kind of system restore or wipe or something. It said it would delete some of my data. I left it to restart again without doing the wipe then it went back to the Dell startup frozen screen that said checking for repairs. The only thing I downloaded recently was a game from Steam. I don’t remember going onto any sketchy websites. What is my problem and how do I fix it?

2023.03.26 23:14 captpln8 GE62MVR 7RG: CPU/GPU temperatures?

Greetings
I have an MSI laptop with I7-7700HQ CPU and Nvidia GPU
I repasted/re-padded all the chips under the heat sinks.
I didnt check temperatures before this but I decided to do it because it was a used laptop and who knows if it was done.
At idle my CPU0 gets around 45 C but when doing intensive tasks like rendeering video I get like 95 C continuously then drops to 80 C
Is this too hot?
What should I do if that is true?
I have attached a screenshot of temperatures
